Don't forget the interaction with Smothering Tithe and Revel in Riches. Every time they draw a card you get one step closer to winning because no one wants to essentially spend 2 mana when they draw a card.
The correct answer to smothering tithe, since you get to look at the card before you choose to pay or not, is to estimate how much mana you'll end the turn with and pay if it's 2 or more
Huge props for knocking out the white around the corners of the card images! I know most folks never notice that sort of thing, but i do and I know it’s extra work and very tedious at that. Oh yeah, sick deck too!

I was hoping you would've done her soon Mitch, but I didn't expect this so early! I got her at pre-release earlier today and I immediately knew I wanted to build around her. Also, just wanted to take the time and say thank you for all the work you put in on these decks! I've actually built two of them, one for myself and one for my brother, and they're deadly plus a great, cheap way to start playing commander.
@@TheCommandersQuarters Mitch...holy crap...this deck...it's godly... Just won a game against my brother without having to go into combat thanks to the sac outlets and the fodder. The salt is flowing out of him right now.
To anyone watching this today, there are obviously tons of new options but I want to highlight Dockside Chef as a killer outlet that draws cards without losing life for 2 mana repeatedly, and he’s only 1 black to play
Nice deck, as always! But you didn't mention Spawning Pit. A 2 mana artifact, free sac outlet, that when your sac a creature for it, it gets a charge counter. If you pay 1 and remove 2 charge counters from it, you get a 2/2 artifact token! It's a great boardwipe ensurance and a free sac outlet!
Hey Mitch! Just used this to help build a Teysa commander. This gave me a great starting point and I just want to thank you for the great advice and look forward to more decks.
I was really hoping you were going to do this one. Really hyped for new Teysa. Great work as always, I continue to look forward to each of your videos.
I don't limit my budget anywhere near this but I still love this channel. You always have to find strange things that I might otherwise have never found like Martyr's Cause...
Death matters decks are a favorite of mine to play! When I was putting a deck together for Judith, the Scourge Diva I saw Champion of Stray Souls and I think it would work in this deck to. Especially with the cards with the Afterlife and similar mechanics
14:35 Reveilark triggers when it leaves the battlefield not when it dies. Teysa doesn't see Reveilark. However, if it is removed from the battlefield without dying (like Swords to Plowshares, Condemn or Path to Exile) would still trigger.

This might be one of the 1st deck tech video's I've seen taking a look into Teysa v3's 99. I've been eagerly anticipating this episode. ^_^ Just a friendly reminder though; Reveillark is actually a 'leaves the field' trigger, not a death trigger. While they might seem similar at 1st, Reveillark's effect only doubles as a result of it dying (just looked up the difference recently). Also, since we're doing recursion, Dusk (to) Dawn is an excellent addition considering most token producers have lower toughness and can be recurred (albeit to the hand) using its aftermath effect.
I've been wanting to get into EDH specially as people at my LGS have encouraged me to do it (I'm new to MTG! Joined towards the end of November) and I had pulled Teysa in the box of Allegiance I had bought and just ordered this deck off your link! I'm super excited into trying it out. Thank you for making this! So stoaked. Looking forward to the 100 Dollar upgrade.
When using Martyr's Cause, you are able to choose a source with shroud or hexproof because you are not targeting anything, you are choosing a source, making it a quite powerful enchantment. powerful.
I like it when you show the more expensive cards at the end. The ones that can be substituted in for better. However, would you please show what you would remove in its place. On a one to one basis. I'd especially like to this this in the $100 bump-up for the $25 decks. Thanks! Keep up the good work!
I got a great idea watching your videos! Commander is by far my favorite format, and I decided to make a commander battle box with 6 commander decks to pull out and play with my friends at any time.
Teysa is my favourite commander since muldrotha last year. I love everything she does and I hope you make more expensive deck techs with her. My version is a bit more pricey so I'd like the see how you make it with a higher budget.
I was hoping you’d put out a video for Teysa! I’ve been brewing my own list using your format, since it really helps me focus my decks. Most of our lists match up, although I go slightly less all in on going wide and pack a lot more interaction and recursion. Awesome video, you’ve certainly given me some ideas lol
I love it! One suggestion I have to help some people is also putting a sub price below the total price, notifying if each card was near mint- It usually isn't super changed, about 20 dollars difference, but I think it'd be very helpful for people that actually care about that.
*sighs* Watching this video again about a year later...$0.20 bauble man those were the days! Plus, I didn't realize Mitch spoke so much slower back then... Love all of the content, keep up the great work!!
I know these cards are pricier but Ashnods Altar and Phyrexian altar are great sacrifice outlets. Also divine visitation for spirits turning into angels.
If you ever make a break the bank, consider changing the play style completely. Teysa is one of the best commanders I’ve seen in a while (besides Najeela) that can easily go infinite. Decaying soil + Enduring Renewal, Creatures that add mana when something dies(Like Pitiless Plunderer, Cathodian, etc), more sac outlets, (Ashnod’s Altar, Viscera Seer), Tutors like diabolical tutor, idyllic tutor, and dark petition. I’ve made a few prototypes and can get a deck with a consistent combo win for $50-$75. Phyrexian Altar is amazing but probably too expensive.
I'm normally not a huge fan of black as a color, just not my style of play, but this looks amazingly fun! My playgroup is currently only playing with a battlebox of edh decks I built (because I wanted to try the format and knew they wouldn't say no if I showed up with decks ready to play) that aren't this focused, so I'll for sure be making a slightly toned down and more basic version of this, especially because I think this is finally the home my divine visitation, which is my favorite card, deserves.
Would love if you had all the decks on something like tappedout, since its hard to change/edit the decks for my own preference/cards i have that are upgrades. Still love the work you do, you have saved me alot of money
luminous broodmoth changes what you can do with teysa in a pretty sweet way, turning any death trigger into an infinite loop with solemnity. would be cool to see an update, since i always find a gem i didn't know about in your vids. :)
1. With Teysa, Orzhov Scion and Darkest Hour- infinite tokens. A tale as old as time. (Darkest Hour is around $2_ 2. Elenda the Dusk Rose- gets very mean very fast - three creatures die, she gets 6 counters. If she then dies, you get 14 token. Even if you get board-wiped you have a massive army to fight with. She's a pretty penny though, well over $10.
First of all I really enjoyed this video and it had some great suggestions for this deck. Only nitpick I have is that I Reveillark doesn't work with Teysa as its trigger is not dying (hitting the graveyard) but leaving the battlefield.
This episode made me super happy, I already had almost everything I needed already in the collection :) However, I have found that Skirsdag High Priest feels good. Tap it and two spirits for a 5/5 vigilant, lifelinking flyer? Yes pls
Nice! I am looking for to this card much, especially paired with my elenda and other synergizing cards :) Will you be able to do a deck for Zurgo, Helmsmasher ? I have ideas for it, but would like to see a focused deck on it for more ideas :D
Had her played against me tonight at the pre-release, along with lots of death touch creatures. After a 50+ minute game 1, ended up overpowering them with that green Guardian's Project enchantment with 4 cards left
I actually put Teysa as a swappable commander into your Kambal deck. I bought it and changed a few cards to my own style, but I use Teysa as a commander if no one is playing control and Kambal when people are playing control or heavy non creature.
Really like this video, was wondering if there is an updated version of this decklist for 2024, even if the overall budget is higher (thanks inflation).
I’m gonna pimp mine out. No budget but honestly going to be using a lot Of these cards for the great synergy. Great list. Mine is gonna be heavily towards life gain as well inspired by my orhzov ajani pridemate standard deck. Great video!!
That would be a tough one cause cards like parallel lives, conjurers close, and door of destinies would be out. But I would suggest lots of sac artifacts like wayfaerers bauble or armilliary sphere, aswell as solemn simulacrum, voyagers staff, fork in the road, harrow, sack lands, scout the borders, things like that. Sakura tribe elder is also good but on a budget those things start to stack up.
I purchased all the cards for this deck the other day. I would like to make a few upgrades and I would love to hear your thoughts on what I should take out. I would like to add Koukusho, the Evening Star/ Sanguine Bond/ Exquisite Blood/ Smothering Tithe/ Ashnod's Altar/ Concealed Courtyard/ Godless Shrine. Also if you think any of these are no good please let me know. Thank you so much for your channel and everything you do!
I love the deck. And I love Orzhov. And I know that this is your list and the cards you prefer. But honestly? I'm kind of disappointed an Orzhov-themed deck doesn't have any Extort in it. That would be killer in this, since you can pump out tons of tokens and you have things like Revel in Riches. I have a similar deck but in mono-Black and use Pontiff of Blight. I also have a few other token makers like Desecrated Tomb (which works rather well when I infinitely sacrifice Gravecrawler). Also! I think an amazing Sac outlet is Thoughtpicker Witch. Not only does it gain us info on what our opponents have, we basically get to mill them out. It also fits the budget too.
This is a fantastic deck I can't wait to assemble! I think I'm going to have to add Intangible Virtue to it - making all of those tokens vigilance and giving them +1/+1 is just too appealing in terms of creating a massive threat.
I love this deck but I feel like Elenda should be in the reasonable upgrades, even if she's over $20, because the tokens and the synergy with Teysa is to good to pass up, in my opinion.
Elenda's only $10-12 on TCG though, she's definitely one of the best cards for this deck if you also stick Blade of the Bloodchief on her. That's 6 counters on Elenda every time a creature dies, and if you have Anointed Procession out, that's 4x the tokens when she dies
Grave Pact, Divine Visitation, Living Death, Finale Of Glory, Single Combat, and Liliana, Dreadhorde General would be great additions to this deck as well. I would also consider adding in Helm Of The Host to place on Teysa to increase the number of Death triggers. Conspiracy would be able to make it a tribal deck for the Human death triggers. And Liliana Vess would be able to take all of your opponent's creatures from their graveyards, possibly allowing for more Death triggers later on in the game.
As of the end of the video the only gripe i have with the deck is the lacl of interactions with the opponent, it's seems a bit too streamlined in it's own plan, I feel like some removal or ways to stop your opponents' plan is something that is lacking. Great video nonetheless, keep it up!
So I apologize if you've answered this before but how exactly do you build your decks in regard to the way you present them? For example do you nail down your 10 strategies before adding a single card to the list and build around those strategies? If so how do you know how many cards to allocate to each strategy? And if not then do you compile a list of cards that work for your deck and then base your strategies off of those cards? Just curious, I'm trying to focus a few of my decks and it's proving harder than I'd like. I always find your decks easy to present and understand but try as I might to imitate for my decks things just keep blurring together.
Look at it this way: - Trigger when it leaves the battlefield - Dying is leaving the battlefield - Rev will trigger when it dies - A trigger caused by a death This is absolutely triggered by Teysa, so long as the way it leaves the battlefield is death.
Your spells have a lot of colorless in their casting costs. This deck could probably run more basic lands and fewer enters-tapped dual lands. That and a very early upgrade has to be Kokusho, the Evening Star and maybe Oath of Lieges to help ramp lands.
I made this deck after I got Teysa from a pack. Had Field of Souls, Pitiless plunderer, flesh carver, commander and the enchantment where in endstep you get a servo token. had a few other tokens out from previous creature deaths. was ramping up Flesh carver, gaining treasure tokens. Opponent played a saga where the chapter 2 was board wipe. On my turn I did the best I could for getting things in play and when the wipe happened I ended up with a legion of spirit flyers, flesh carver turned to 2 12/12 horror tokens and a whack load of treasure tokens. On my turn i drew off the top Revel in Riches and played it with 13 treasure tokens on hand. When it works it works.
Looking at the prices of these cards 3 years later is amazing. A lot of these cards are 3 times the cost now.
Revel in riches just about blows the whole budget in 2024.
Don't forget the interaction with Smothering Tithe and Revel in Riches. Every time they draw a card you get one step closer to winning because no one wants to essentially spend 2 mana when they draw a card.
Absolutely!
The correct answer to smothering tithe, since you get to look at the card before you choose to pay or not, is to estimate how much mana you'll end the turn with and pay if it's 2 or more

Not only does it gain us info on what our opponents have, we basically get to mill them out. It also fits the budget too.
Great considerations!
This is a fantastic deck I can't wait to assemble! I think I'm going to have to add Intangible Virtue to it - making all of those tokens vigilance and giving them +1/+1 is just too appealing in terms of creating a massive threat.
Nice!
Will the next bunch of videos be on Ravnica Allegiance legandaries?
Potentially ;)
@@TheCommandersQuarters Can't wait to see them, especially on camera :D
Would have been nice to also see Teysa orzhov Scion deck tech as well
Some awesome Ultimate master upgrades would be phyrexian tower and phyrexian alter. So good for this deck.
Indeed!
I love this deck but I feel like Elenda should be in the reasonable upgrades, even if she's over $20, because the tokens and the synergy with Teysa is to good to pass up, in my opinion.
A great card! But I do try to keep those under $10 each
Elenda's only $10-12 on TCG though, she's definitely one of the best cards for this deck if you also stick Blade of the Bloodchief on her.
That's 6 counters on Elenda every time a creature dies, and if you have Anointed Procession out, that's 4x the tokens when she dies
This deck looks awesome! Can't wait to try it out when the cards come out.
Also Ogre Slumlord made me really want to see a rat/Nezumi tribal deck.
Nice!
Yeah would be a fun one!
Marrow-Gnawer is a great commander for rat tribal. I built one and its a lot of fun.
@@xzakly Ah yeah, he looks pretty sick. Reminds me of Krenko
Nice, I pulled teysa at pre release and I have elenda, and amazing card for this deck
As of the end of the video the only gripe i have with the deck is the lacl of interactions with the opponent, it's seems a bit too streamlined in it's own plan, I feel like some removal or ways to stop your opponents' plan is something that is lacking. Great video nonetheless, keep it up!
Finding this in 2021 feels bad.. It's now a $100 deck. I'm scared to go watch the upgrade vids of this deck lol.
mmm now I'm kinda excited. sitting with a Dark Prophecy, Dictate of Erebos, & a Skullclamp just collecting dust in my binder =)
Nice!
Love the idea of the deck. I've been really tossed up as to whether she's better in the 99 or as a commander.
Can definitely go either way! I do prefer her at the helm tho
Very well built, one card I looked at and thought was good for this deck was Blind Hunter
I'm pretty sure that Teysa does not interact with revellark at all, because it's not a death trigger, but a LTB trigger.
Look at it this way:
- Trigger when it leaves the battlefield
- Dying is leaving the battlefield
- Rev will trigger when it dies
- A trigger caused by a death
This is absolutely triggered by Teysa, so long as the way it leaves the battlefield is death.
Your spells have a lot of colorless in their casting costs. This deck could probably run more basic lands and fewer enters-tapped dual lands. That and a very early upgrade has to be Kokusho, the Evening Star and maybe Oath of Lieges to help ramp lands.
New Teysa is going into the 99 of my Orzhov Scion EDH, same basic strat. Teysa tribal is go.
I didn't know I was going to build another Orzhov deck.... but now the need is strong.
Could you do a Valduk or a Tiana deck? I feel the uncommon legendaries from Dominaria would greatly help in the budget department.
This seems like a really fun deck and my style. I also got a Tesya in the pre release so might actually go for this one
I would like to see a Brudi with an expanded budget. Really like that one.
Would be a fun one!
