As someone who contracted Necrotizing Fasciitis, these infections are some of the NASTIEST diseases you can get. Fortunately, I caught it very early on so while I needed some debridement I didn't need anything *amputated*. It was literally a couple months after I first saw "Cabin Fever" (2002) so I rushed to the emergency room.
EDIT: Oh and, yes I have type 1 diabetes, but it was in my arm, not a foot and was caused by (I can feeeeel people losing sympathy with me here) IV drug use
