  • After my Boomerang III wore out, I decided to head a different direction and use Ableton Live as my looper with a Blackstar Live Logic foot controller. This is how it is going so far, a couple days in.

Obe, I love that you bring us fresh news and another video. This is everything I've been hoping for again. I'm so excited to hear your looping streams live in SL, a place where we can share, enjoy and banter with you too ;)

Great to find another convert from Boomerang to Ableton! I’ll be posting more of my use case soon but its similar. Thanks for sharing!

I really loved boomerang, but since the company sold it's the same gear, but not the same vibe.

Way cool, more versatile than most of the pedals out there, if not all of them.

Would love to see a tutorial for how you use the looper. I can’t figure out how to use it without setting tempo first.

Nice video! thanks for sharing. My friend I wondering how did you set up your Blackstar to work in looper? I'm fighting to configure it because it always assumes the default Ableton Midi Remote Scripts (default loop behavior) and I can't assign the buttons on midi map. Thanks a lot!

I believe that you have to move the switch to "custom" to midi map.

Hi Williams, sorry I missed this, but I set it to custom, and then just used MIDI mapping to assign the pedal's switches to the looper's transport button. I have some ideas about how to make this a bit easier in my next version. I think I need more switches :)

@@Oblee hi! Thanks for the reply! I going to try again, even using the custom switch the pedal still uses the default Ableton mapping. I will research further. Thanks!

@@wduarte2007 i believe that of you *don't* map a midi note, it will still default to that behavior. I've noticed that when I use midi clips, my lights on the pedal light up. I have been unable to get those lights to provide feedback from the looper plugin.

I'm curious how you ultimately map the switches. I have one on order. Very open ended design
edit, I would recommend using an effects rack

Hi David! I mapped the 1-2-3-4-5 switches to the looper plugin's multi-purpose transport button and then the 6 switch is a stop for all of them. I find stopping individual channels (double tap the switch) a bit cumbersome, but all in all I like it. I've changed quite a bit since making this video, where would you recommend using an effects rack? I've taken to using instrument racks for my drums/keyboard sounds.

@@Oblee I've put the Loopers in an effect rack. It reduces track numbers, and I can apply effects to all of them easier. They are in a rack within a rack. I'm considering mapping the all purpose transport to 1 and 3. Then individual stops on 2 and 4, making a 2 channel looper with control like the Boss pedal. Maybe 5 could be all stop/mute and 6 an effect or all clear.

Oh yeah, and one more thing, on loops 2 and 3 I have them switch the counterpart off, so when you trigger loop 2 to play or record, it stops loop 3 and visa versa. I've found that to be very helpful.

@@Oblee i thought of another advantage to using an instrument rack for loopers. You can change loop styles. One chain on the rack is for your layout, and another chain has the Boss layout, and so on. Different songs may need different loop controls.

@@davidduston1611 Ahhhhhhh wow, that's fantastic, I had always thought of the racks as either one at a time or all at once. I already use instrument racks for my various instruments (basses, keys, etc) it didn't occur to me that I could use them in this way. I'll certainly look into it, thank you for the tip!
