@@PuddyIzzy I took the small S/M SM Pro Men for my Enduro MTB and I like it: I did a bikefit with my gravelbike later and then bought a SQlab 612 in 13cm for the gravelbike. Also like that one :)

great video. nothing you can do but spend, test and sell spend, test and sell... when you find one you love buy two. too narrow is more painful than a little too wide for me. I am up and down constantly on my mountain bike so I am not all that picky with mountain bike saddles (flat with some nose padding) but man getting a great saddle on the gravel bike has been a pricey process... I stand much less on it than my MTB and to grind for hours and hours I need to be in the right (same) position for my knees so the saddle choice is crucial. think I found it with the Ergon SR all road, pretty much the same basic shape as all my saddles but a bit more flex than my last. Just tweaking for/aft and tilt now. way back when shops used to have loaners to test before buying, Id much rather spend $200 vs $150 on one I was able to test first.
Ergon themselves have said that if you're in-between their saddle sizes (they mention 12 cm sit bone width specifically, exactly on the border, but I'd say it applies to slightly more or less than that as well), they suggest the larger size if you're sitting more upright, otherwise the smaller size. Their video about it, from 2019: th-cam.com/video/ami64sqNmJA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the link. At 1:45, she addressed my issue. At 12cm, I bought M/L SMC Gel for mtb. It's comfortable but cuts into thighs when standing behind it. I'll buy S/M for more freedom of movement and move the original to my road bike where I don't stand behind it
Interesting and helpful commentary, thank you. I just received my Ergon Enduro Comp in S/M oil slick yesterday, but wanted to check TH-cam to see what users had to say. I originally had a M/L in my cart, but changed it. My thought is that someone weighing 128 pounds at 5'8" would not require a large saddle under most any circumstance.
I prefer saddles that are on the narrow side with a smooth top. Even the Small/Medium Ergon is on the wide side. I noticed that the saddle that you ended up liking has ribbing on the top back part. That type of ribbing causes friction when I change my positions back and forth.
Had the same experience. Right between sizes, went with the s/m and it's perfect. A friend of mine (over 6 feet) uses the s/m as well. I guess the m/l is only useful for really big dudes, like way over 6 feet and 200 pounds.
Interesting im over 200lbs the M/L has cut all my nerves off from the so called comfort zone edges being rock hard gel! I went and bought one of them witkop or something memory foam saddles oh waw! The trekking and mtb one now thats what i call comfort and support for 25 bucks only thing that can be an issue it the rails are quite short so aslong as your bikes the right size it wont be an issue but definitely need to try one these there cheap as chips, good quality i will be changing it for something abit nicer but for now while heavier and trying to loose the weight its a god send! And this is on my emtb!
Thanks for the video. I bought Ergon's top of the line ST Core Evo, very similar situation to yours. My sit bones are 13mm, and they put me in the Med/Lg category, but not by much. I feel like the saddle is too wide. I'm going to buy the Small/Medium and I'll bet that will work better for me.
@@pilikiosuafoa1727 Yes, I sold my M/L online and decided against the S/M just because I didn't want to spend the money to try it out.I went back to my Brooks B17 which is as comfortable a saddle as I've ever tried and am just staying with that.
I have the smc mens gel in my mtb. Very comfortable, but like you the saddle rubs my thighs when standing and getting behind saddle. I was fitted for 154mm specialized saddle so i got the M/L. im thinking about buying a S/M to ease the thigh pain. It has a more rounded back
There is no consistency between the "tilt" angle of the different saddle you presented installed on the bikes. Some are flat, other going down... Maybe it was only for the video, but it could be a major issue in real use. Do not also forget that the angle of the tilt is supposed to be taken at the standard SAG on a moutain bike, not on an empty one
True. I tend to like my nose very slightly down from level. Might not have been consistent in the video but in real life, I'll spend a lot of time finding the tilt I like - which is different on the mountain bike vs. road bike but not by much.
Hello, I watch your vid about the Bontrager Vers comp and had the same experiance. Bought it a second time used which was the same. Is the ergon sm better padded as the Bontrager? Regards from Germany
Saddle shape is more important than width. And the listed width is measured somewhere close to the back of the saddle, edge to edge, and isn't a measurement of the spot you are expected to sit on or spot you choose to sit. Still, the width is a good criterion to use when shopping. A saddle that is too narrow is far more uncomfortable than one that is too wide.
I was riding on a Montrose Elite and have recently switched to an Ergon SR men Pro. I too used their calculator which put me in the med/large (my sit bones measure about 125mm. The jury is still out but one thing I noticed is that the Montrose has a much rounder profile while the Ergon is flatter. Maybe that is contributing to the feeling that it is too wide?
Hi Brad, is ergon will do any good for roadbike? I use bontrager aeolus comp with 145mm. I really tempted to buy ergon sm pro s/m size. What do you think?
Ugh - I hate to say yes or no b/c it's such a personal preference but personally, I think I would like it but haven't tried it. I definitely like the Bontrager P3 Verse Comp saddle that came on my Trek Checkpoint for road biking BUT - it's OEM only - you can't buy it by itself - they have something called the same thing but it's way less comfortable than what came on my bike - see this video for details: th-cam.com/video/CHFWrL2Gepw/w-d-xo.html
I always thought wider would be more comfortable as long as your thighs don't rub against the saddle. Guess that is wrong thinking. I went against what WTB told me and got the wider version and didn't think it was the best in comfort.
All of these saddles demonstrate a single platform design. Now it is important to ask yourself what are 'bums/bottoms/backsides/booties' for? Many things including a 'sitting function.' On the other hand your private parts, perineum, prostate and tailbone are NOT designed to have a sitting function. Yet millions upon millions of people ride a single platform saddle and therefore ask the sensitive are easily damaged urological and neurological vessels located in the forementioned parts of you. When you ask a body part to function in a way it is not supposed to function damage will and does happen. It is madness to listen to someone like this who cannot recognize that a broken paradigm: single platform saddles being employed to bear your weight against such vessels IS a broken paradigm. No matter how padded, or carved and contoured damage will happen, and said damage accumulates. It sneaks up on you even though - for many - it tells you that damage is happening. And then one day ... and you wonder what happened. You listened to someone like this and denied that certain parts of your body have a sitting function ... and some do not. Buy a Spongy Wonder.
Ergon gel is to hard especially when new! The raised edges cut my nerves off and I went all numb up the right side of my balls to my groin to ass cheak like it triggered my sciatica in summer! Im still getting over it the numbness hasn't got much better as yet these "comfort zones" are bloody dangerous!
Thanks for the video. I'm about 12cm so really exactly in between both saddles and now I'm confident in goin for the small one
@bikeinmotion any update? Im also a 12cm so i wanna hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
