Would you say a bib isn't necessary with this seat? I have a touring saddle from ergon but I still use a bib and wouldn't describe the seat as soft. Wondering if I'm not fairly judging it. Any hour long ride has me needing to stand for a few seconds to relieve pressure down there.

I'm not sure this would be comfortable without a bib. If you're doing anything more than a short commute, I'd recommend bib shorts or at least simple bib liners so you'd be comfortable.

Would the carbon or alloy rail be more comfortable?

Honestly, I would be surprised if there is a noticeable difference between the rails. The carbon rails should have more dampening but it's probably more for weight savings and looks.
