I’ve had my Monstera Albo verigata sitting in water since I bought it and it seems to like it. It’s been 6 months already and have had no issues. I change the water once a week and give it small liquid fertilizer. I can say however it’s slow to shoot it’s leaves but so far it’s good.
Subbed. This is one of the best vids I've seen on Monstera Albo's. I just found out that I might have bought the WRONG version for my albo, as I was after a deliciosa and bought a borgsigiana. I'm not sure which is best, but didn't realize the differences until after I received it. From what I understand the borg is more of a vining climbing plant, and the delic is more of a clump grower. Anyway, I'd love a vid on the differences and pro's and cons of each if you happen to be looking for new content to make. And this is a bit off topic, but if you are looking for new content, another plant that seems almost impossible to find content on is the Alocasia Jacklyn. I'd really love an indepth vid about that plant, very similar to this vid. Anyway, great vid and thanks for the info.
Hey thank you for the sub! I really appreciate it 😄 You’re spot on with the differences between small form and large form albo monsteras. Smaller tends to vine vertically, while the larger will vine but put out more aerial roots (instead of just the single per node). And of course the inner fenestrations and winged geniculum(sp?) I have a video called Borsigiana drama which outlines the scientifically accepted names and differences between these plants 😄
@@prettyingreen I mentioned in another vid, but I am brand new to Monstera Albo's, and mine has one leaf that is getting more and more brown on the white section. Is there anything I can do to prevent this, or control it once it has started browning? Also, I am in the process of converting many of my plants to leca, but I am using a slightly different technique. I put all perlite in the bottom third of the glass container, and then leca on up to the top, keeping the water level just below the roots initially, until they start growing down. Wow the way the stem predicts variation is very interesting. I bought a bunch of stem cuttings on esty for a very reasonable price. Once they really mature it could be fun to try pruning one or 2 to have a certain variation.

Are you sure about the NPK? I've heard in other places that too much nitrogen will make the plant go back to green due to increased chlorophyll production and that a balanced NPK is better for the albos

My med-sized albo shot out tons of roots (and recently a new leaf) after being in water for 3 months and I'm afraid to disturb it... You're saying they NEED extra oxygen to thrive? Will something bad happen if they stay in water even longer?
I'm new to LECA and i usually use a moisture meter for my soil. What's the best way of figuring out when the leca/perlite mix is dry enough on the bottom to water again? Would a moisture meter still work for that? I have the albo under (but far away enough that it won't burn) a pretty intense grow light so I'm not sure where I land on that 1x - 2x week watering schedule.
You’d likely be at 1x per week. I wait for the bottom of the pot(at the drain hole) to not show signs of wetness or much moisture. It’s challenging to use a moisture meter with LECA/perlite. This week I wasn’t exactly sure of my interval, so at the 4 day mark, I poured out the media, and checked how wet the roots were: and it was exactly ready for a watering! I hope this helps!

Thanks for this video! I recently bought a healthy monstera Albo plant with medium variegation. When I took it home the 3 newer leaves had no browning on the tips, now all leaves except the newest have small amounts of crispy browning on the green parts of the leaves (white looks healthy). I have heard contradictory things that the browning is caused by over and under watering. I have had the plant for 2 weeks and I have watered it twice when the top inch was completely dry. It's under a plant light and around 50% RH. The soil medium is 1:1:1 ratio of chunky perlite, coco coir chips and potting soil. I want to fix whatever I am doing quickly so any advice would be helpful. Overall the plant seems healthy it has sprouted a new leaf after having just sprouted one 2-3 weeks ago and it was repotted just before I purchased it by the shop owner.
The crispy browning can be caused by a variety of things: 1. Lack of light 2. Too little humidity 3. Too little watering It is usually a combination of these things, but even one being off can cause it. On my largest albo I downgraded the light and it immediately got browned edges
@@prettyingreen I already have a dedicated plant light for this that is on for 14 hours a day. The humidity could dip to high 30's. I just added a humidifier and set it to 55% RH. The soil seemed very dry today because I was advised that the browning was due to over watering. I just gave it a good soak and the water drained right through. Fingers crossed the browning will stop. I still see some 1mm translucent yellow edges around the crispy brown edges in a couple of spots. That was already an improvement from when I had 4-5 growing brown spots. So I think only 2 are growing now. Thanks for your help!
Hi! I need a very urgent help. I am from a country where its rainy season and it rains everyday 2-3 times. So i bought a new albo which has a new leaf horn coming along with previous 4 leaves. Now the new leaf horn was beautiful when i bought. Its been 5 days since i brought it home. Now the new leaf horn is not opening and its all brown. I am so scared what should i do now? 😭 The soil mix was coconut husk and perlite I kept it in a place where it gets indirect sunlight. Our environment temp is almost 30-35 degree. Humidity is 70-80% as its rainy season. Someone else said its a fungal attack.. Now i dont know what i should do. I cant attach a picture here but i wish i could show.
I received a monstera albo. Its a cutting with 2 and a half leaves, she looked good when she got hime but now she's yellowing 😢 i haven't pot it since it got here because i didn't want to stress it. I don’t have ppfd data on what is best. I use 250w LED over 4x4 space about 3’ away! Always wanted to measure ppfd, just haven’t found an affordable and accurate meter
Hey I have the Marphyl organic liquid fertilizer and am planning on using leca, how does this compare to the a+b fertilizer for leca? I’m new to this and not sure where to start!
Hey! I don't typically suggest Organics and LECA together because it creates a bit of a biological party, but it CAN be done! The A+B is inorganic, so it can be sterilized and keep smells, gnats, and root rot at bay. Let us know if you have any other questions!
I recently bought my first also and immediately stuck it in my greenhouse which is about 80-90% humidity. If I’m going to take it out to have regular household humidity (about 60% with my humidifier going)would you do it slowly and acclimate it over a few days-weeks or just go for it?
Monstera is pretty resilient-I wouldn’t worry about! Slowly is best but I think it’ll be fine. If she does anything different just put her back then slowly transition

@@prettyingreen I just put two of them in Lechuza PON and the trick is to put it in a jar not in something where the water can run out. Leaving a little amount of water at the bottom has worked. I tried PON in a catchpo and it failed. that and it didn't work. Monsteras as beautiful as they are, are a real pain in the butt. Those things will rot on you so quickly. I just want at least one of them to love me back LOL!
@@prettyingreen It is amazing how some things work for some and not others. I don't like LECA I think I will try and get some smaller balls and see if those work better. For now I use LECA to cover the holes in the bottom of my pots :0)

They sell the best BTI on the market, I swear!! My gnat problem has been effectively eradicated!

Yes. With running as much lights as I am, the nitrogen is needed, and I haven’t seen any overly green / reverting Albos

What ratio do you make with neem oil and how do you use it??? Do you spray the leafs and the soil? You just wiped them with a clove with neem oil?

Sugar will help slow down the browning process, especially if the plant has very little green. Try and keep the humidity in the range of 50-65%

@@prettyingreen I just put two of them in Lechuza PON and the trick is to put it in a jar not in something where the water can run out. Leaving a little amount of water at the bottom has worked. I tried PON in a catchpo and it failed. that and it didn't work. Monsteras as beautiful as they are, are a real pain in the butt. Those things will rot on you so quickly. I just want at least one of them to love me back LOL!
@@prettyingreen It is amazing how some things work for some and not others. I don't like LECA I think I will try and get some smaller balls and see if those work better. For now I use LECA to cover the holes in the bottom of my pots :0)
Where are all the plain Bosnians
I don't like these plants... they brown out on the variegation sooner or later... fungus gnats always ready to take over.
