"Come Back to Me" is a song by American singer Janet Jackson from her fourth studio album Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989). It was co-written and co-produced by Jackson in collaboration with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The R&B ballad talks about a lover trying to rekindle a romance that faded away a long time ago. It was released as the fifth single from the album on June 18, 1990. Jackson also recorded a Spanish version of the song titled "Vuelve a Mí".

Especially back in those days recording multiple vocals and stacking them was very costly if she got one note wrong. There was no autotune or plugins that doubled and harmonized your vocals. Plus she had to do each harmony multiple times for that full lush sound.

Empress - my favorite song from Rhythm Nation is Lonely. It comes before Come Back To Me on the album's track listing. So you must listen to both songs back to back as they are connected, get ready for some more tears. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis signature sound you have to check out their work: Saturday Love by Cherelle and Alexander O'Neal, The Finest by The S.O.S. Band (they have so many to listen to), and Human by The Human League (a comeback song for this 80s British new wave band).

This song was my favorite song and ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' was my favorite album of her. ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' was a raw and aggressive album, but very solid and a piece of art. The album talk about socials issues, injustice, education and all the problem with the childrens of the albums (the three first songs of the album and ''Livin in a World'' was political). It's also included few songs about romance (''Someday is Tonight'' is a sexual song and the most sensual song of the album).
This song was hugely popular in US (particular in adult comtempory radios), peaked in n.2 in 1990.
A very melodic and beautiful,angelic song,calming and relaxing, laid-back when you missing that special someone past in your life or present.Just love her then and still today a force to underestimate.

@@EmpressReacts I remember that. I think it was Virgin records? It was the highest paid record contract at the time. You should check out the Control album from 1986. A lot of hits came off of that one too. Similar to this song is Let's Wait A While.

In the podcast of the thirty anniverssary of the album, Jimmy Jam talk about the recording of the song. When she wrote the song and working in the arrangements, she wanted the end of the song has a full of strings and she insisted that to put hugely that feeling and the end after the last chorus.
The video was shot in Paris during her promotion of Rhythm Nation in november 1989. It's was filmed originally for the released of the single in Europe since it's was the third single in Europe instead of ''Escapade'' like in US. While in US, it's was released six months after the Europe has the fifth single of the album after ''Alright''.
The was the track 11 of this album (since i didn't count the eight interludes of this album). The tracks 10 (Lonely), 11 (Come Back to Me) and 12 (Someday is Tonight) was all ballads RnB oriented. The last was more sensual and sexual then the two others songs of the album and was the lead-in to her ''Janet.'' album.
