Mudlarking the River Medway in Kent

  • Join me and David Nolan as we explore an island in the River Medway and find out a little more about the activities that went on there during the 19th century.
This video was filmed in April 2020. This place is very dear to my heart and is a place full of history which I absolutely love. All objects found here will be offered to the Chatham Dockyard museum once the lockdown is over.
Thank you for watching. You can follow me on instagram and twitter @tidelineart and if you would like to buy me a virtual cup of earl grey tea (with lemon) then you can do so at my Kofi account- ko-fi.com/nicolawhitetidelineart - no seriously - all donations will go towards improving my equipment and towards my channel.
Thank you very much for your suggestions, comments and feedback. I appreciate each and every one of you.
I wish you all a wonderful week wherever you are and whenever you read this.
    See you soon.

Congratulations on the 100K, that is an amazing and big achievement on TH-cam or anywhere for that matter. Needless to say you are so warm and inviting while you teach us the history of the area on, in and around the Thames, nature and mudlarking. I have cherished every hour I have spent with you. You are not a character on a channel, you have become a precious friend that I strive and thrill to meet with each Sunday. Many prayers for you, health, safety, family and love. God Bless

Nicola, we rescued a dove who flew into a house where there was an estate auction. I heard a scream, I sprang into action when someone
freaked out over a bird flying into a house and landing behind a picture frame. I reached behind the frame and grabbed a baby dove; I held him
throughout the auction and took him home. Today. . . 2 years later, my "Malcolm" is still with me. He comes out of his fancy cage and sits on
the back of my recliner (which is protected) and he sits there while we watch TV. I admit, I overdo it when I kiss and hug him but he doesn't seem
to mind. He sings to us every morning. Just so you know there are those of us who love our wildlife and can make them a part of our human
family. God love you, Nicole, we love our wild little beings as much as you do.

A couple of years ago, in the middle of the night, I was looking at metal detecting video's on TH-cam because I thought that was something I might want to try, and lo and behold, I came across a video of you mudlarking. At first, because I am from Michigan in the states, I fell in love with your beautiful accent. You were all alone and it was so peaceful, just you and the sound of the river. You had only, at that time, found a couple things but the excitement in your voice when you would find something new just drew me in. The joy of each find was contagious and it was right then that I knew we'd be friends forever. I have watched every single video with wonder and delight. Thank you for the happiness you have brought to me, and many others. This summer I will be going mudlarking myself...not to London, but here in the states. Maybe I'll find some itty bitty heads (my favorites) and a bottle or two. Take care, my friend, always such fun tagging along with you on your adventures! Til next time, stay safe! ~Jen

Nicola, I am excited to receive your videos every week. They are a joy and “pick me up”. As someone with about 80% UK heritage, all about 200 or more years ago, I love, love, love learning about the everyday life of my ancestors. Where they lived, what their lives were like- their dishes and pottery, their pipes, and bottles. You teach and help these people come to life and tell us their stories. You are warm and friendly and brave weather we in the southern and southwestern USA cannot even believe. All this for showing us another site, having experts come in and also share their knowledge, and taking us places we will never be able to go except through your adventures. Many thousands of subscribers consider ourselves a friend of yours. We could easily share a cup of Earl grey or a bottle of beer and feel right at home with you. You have earned your 100,000. May you continue to grow and expand dear friend.

As a doll and stuffed animal restorer, I love that you saved two, especially the monkey. Washed But still damp, if you use a hair blow dryer to fluff them, they drop many years. I tried it on me, but I still look seventy 😏.

You are very lucky, if i lived there i would never be a way from that place, i grew up exploring bottle dumps here in Lancashire as a kid, but we have nothing like this here. real treasure hunters paradise.

As much as I love your commentary your appreciation of the sounds and views of the places and creatures you adventure around adds a level of immersion that sets your videos apart and makes them quite special. Thanks so much for your efforts and congrats on reaching 100k (no surprise to me as the content is absolutely marvelous!)!

I've been watching clips about factory workers and the pleasure boat works disaster came to mind that you shared. The impact on the town must have been enormous losing so many people. The ripple effect unbelievable.

So peacefully during this hunt I am surprised that I can't hear noise pollution which is a good thing. Tranquility adds to concentration. Gives me better understanding of your tiny island. The roundup also helps with my understanding.

I love the history lesson from David. I'm glad you included it in the video! Cool spot. In an age where everything old and cool is ripped down and new built. Its nice to see some places left alone

Late to watch today. I went on my own beach walk. It wasn't quite a quiet as yours and there were no pipes or forts, but plenty of wildlife and perfect weather as well. I'm glad the monkey survived. He's lucky you found him.
Congratulations on 100,000 viewers. I'm sure that number will only go higher.👍

Congratulations on 100K subscribers! I watch both you and Si-finds, as does one of my daughters. A year ago I didn’t know what a mudlarker was, knew nothing about the Thames, and didn’t realize a river had tides! I’m in Nebraska (almost the exact center of the US), and your world is as foreign to me as mine would be to you. Keep on making your videos, and we’ll keep watching!

I guess people dumped everything in the Thames over the centuries but it makes for interesting artifacts of everyday life back in history! Love to watch you mudlarking and the snippets of history and very interesting like archeology!

What a beautiful day for mudlarking! I love the way you pick up all the orphans and take them home for a second life. The disco dance was so funny. The building looks like there's less plant life at the moment. Such a great fort! All that sunshine really makes for a positive outlook. Be well!

The broken pipe bowl is a Royal Marines one. It has the remains of a globe and royal on it. Very envious too with of the piece of china with the letters RM on it. Congrats on reaching 100,000 subscribers.
