Love the NAAFI fragment. My Mum was in the NAAFI during the war, and was sent to Italy and Algeria. She also worked deep under Whitehall where the Churchill War Rooms Are now. When the Thames was at high tide, they had to stand on duck boards to keep dry as it flooded under there! One evening she said Churchill came along to the canteen and they asked him what he’d like to eat. He said, “Oh, whatever you girls are making.” 😁
@@nicolawhitemudlark I was curious about the message in a bottle? I am the father of a little girl who has passed from leukemia and the last year of her life she sent 5 messages in the Mississippi river "I was stationed in Missouri at the time" and she had fought and fought because she continued to get emails from people who had found her messages and continued the chain. The reason I am posting this is that you said you would put the message in your collection. In my personal experience I know what a message in a bottle can do for someone when it gives them the will to continue living past what doctors say they have. Please do like many other people on this comment section have suggested and make copies for your private collection and place the message back for someone else. What you're doing is the same as destroying a child's hope. I am not trying to be mean by that comment just factual. If you decide to take my advise I have a few tips to help keep the bottle moving down the river better and not deteriorate. If you put it back, change the bottle to a new one "it will help keep the message floating further" and apply a light coat to rtv silicone to the caps threads. This helps to keep the bottle from getting water inside and destroying the notes and sinking. And add to your message the instructions. Finally, use a permanent marker "Sharpie works great" and write "Message in a bottle, threads sealed with silicone" on the exterior of bottle so the finder will understand why the cap wont come off. We received emails all the way to the mouth of the Mississippi river and then from a fishing boat, and after Melissa had passed we continue to receive emails. So far Cancun, Mexico is the furthest out. These messages continue to give me and my wife memories of a child we can no longer hold. Please don't break the chain! Sincerely SSGT. Mike Smith USMC
Thanks for sharing and the glimpse into daily activities (lunch, the "girls" being the caretakers), the conditions during the war. I hope you or your mum wrote down to pass on :)

Delightful Nicola, just delightful!! And how awesome that you were selected to sing with Bon Jovi!! And spend time with your son... have a wonderful time, you deserve it!!! ✌🏼
Nicola, This video is my introduction to Mudlarking. Here in the Pacific Northwest any activities such as yours, along our rivers or estuaries, wouldn't produce anything as fascinating as the Thames. What marvelous finds, any one with a sense of the past and and active imagination , myself included I hope, can't help but marvel at this wonderful detritus. Thank you for the follow up ,it adds dimension to your discoveries, especially the Roman pottery and that strange snake pipe. Looking forward to enjoying your series and good luck in your new career as a rock star:) Cheers, Frederick "Rik" Spector

I just love your videos Nicola! I enjoy seeing the finds in situ and then hearing the history that is connected to them. You are the most charming mud-larker on TH-cam. Thanks for posting these interesting videos! Have a lovely day.
I loved the Roman pottery! Can't wait for you to work with Richard! His videos are very informative as well.
Richard Is always a pleasure to listen to. His expertise when it comes to identifying pottery shards is amazing. Looking forward to seeing Nicola’s collaboration with him.
Thanks for rescue little lovely Charly!! ❤
Loved what you found! It’s funny as I was sat reading the page on Torpedo bottles in London In Fragments and your video popped up! 😄I hadn’t heard of them before. Everyday really is a school day with Mudlarking, I love it! Congratulations on being selected to sing with the Bonjovi band! what an experience to share with your son! I think he has a great stage presence. You will be fab, Enjoy! x
Love all of your treasures especially the bottles & the pipe !!! That's awesome about your son & you also !!! Congratulations 👏🎉 !!! ❤️🙂
I really liked the bottle finds. Regarding the message find, don't break the chain of messages. Make copies plus add your story and send it back to the river. What fun this child will have if he continues to receive messages into adulthood. Your story and the river will continue to flow!
Brilliant Lady with a very sharp eye for details which I would have missed. Looking forward to more of your finds.
I had no idea what mudlarking was. Not my thing.....I thought. But oh my gosh, now I'm obsessed I absolutely love your channel. I have developed an interest in historical artifacts. Thank you for showing us these things and especially the stories.
I'm from Stoke on trent..home of the lotteries,
Wedgwood, Doulton, woods etc. And it's amazing when you find something from here. Keep doing what your doing..I love it!!!!
Sorry..Potteries!!
Congratulations to you and your son! I hope you have a wonderful time on the cruise!
Excellent estuary bottle finds, Great production as always, thanks 4 sharing 👍
Your talents has no bounds . Love your videos keep them coming. Looking forward to seeing you on stage.
Can't wait to see and hear what happens with EVERYTHING next weekend! Good luck to one and all ; )
It’s amazing that these finds have survived all this time!
I made a half-ashtray in pottery class once ... told my instructor it was for my half-ash friends .. she wasn't amused 😏
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
That was a fun video with wonderful finds. I love the old bottles! Congrats to your son. His band is great.
Always fun adventures you take me on. Thanks, great finds. From Utah, USA.
Good bottle finds Nicola! The bowl of the pipe is really interesting and apparently rare. Charlie is an extremely lucky crab to have you find him and return him to similar habitat to live on.
I love all the things you found but my favourite is the ink bottle, I have fallen in love! Great finds as usual 😊
So many great bottles Nicola! Just love that Roman pottery! Such great finds! 😊❤
Fantastic sensibities for the artistic value and historical sigificance, or mere quirkiness, of things!
Yes, you put it so well! thanks!
Delightful Nicola, just delightful!! And how awesome that you were selected to sing with Bon Jovi!! And spend time with your son... have a wonderful time, you deserve it!!! ✌🏼
Just discovered. What a great channel, that's my lunch hour at work viewing sorted out. Keep up the good work!!
Nicola,
This video is my introduction to Mudlarking.
Looking forward to enjoying your series and good luck in your new career as a rock star:)
Cheers,
Frederick "Rik" Spector
How awesome would it be if they did one antiques road show just dedicated to amazing things Larkers have found
What a brilliant idea! Have you written to suggest it?
I live in Utah in the Rocky Mountains in the US. I have been ill and disabled for about 5 years. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ! They are just magical and have such a calming effect on me. I have visited the U.K many times and have a special love for london and the out laying areas. I can't walk very well any more' let alone bending over, so watching you find treasure is a wonderful treat. I love your art work too and hope to possibly buy one of the fish in the near future. Thank you for all your hard work !
Thank you Nicola for sharing all your cool find, Im in Canada (Vancouver) nothing to old here. I think my favorite find was that blue ink well.
Love love love your videos! So interesting and enlightening. Great finds Nicola. Happy Mudlarking and Happy Karaoke! Congratulations can't wait to see the video!
Wow, nice finds again. Love it
Hi Nicola, I just returned to the states from a Mudlarking adventure in London. You’ve inspired me to start a new hobby of Mudlarking. Can’t wait to return. I had a permit and reported my finds to the Museum of London.
"This is the only bottle I'll ever throw in the river" that made me tear up a bit
Lovely taking the crab back!👍🏼🦀
Just came across your channel and wow what amazing finds you found,I will enjoy your past videos as I sit here now❤️
Keep up the great work and thank you keeping our history alive💖💖
The kings of suburbia...staring NICOLA. can’t wait to here you🤟and thanks for another super mudlark adventure 🙂👋
Love the Harrods torpedo bottle, and even more that you returned the resident crab to the river! The pipe bowl is stunning and you found some unique tokens. Congrats on having your karaoke audition chosen for the cruise. Is there anything you can't do Nicola?!!
Putting another message in the bottle and let it continue it's journey.
You saved Charlie! If he had gotten too big, he would be stuck. Thank you!🦀❤🦀
Another fantastic video from you. Love that you include nature in your videos, but Charlie was a real surprise. Your edits are great, too. I hate when blogs switch to music and it blows your eardrums because of volume changes. Thanks.
What an amazing place to do this! I've never thought about it before, but I imagine you could find something interesting every time you went!
You're too awesome! This is so funny! I will stay tuned!
Ilove everything in your video , summer ocean vind and the music. And your findings off course.
