The message in a bottle is actually in Portuguese, and it seems to say "Paulo Gomes, Maria Gomes, separa, brigar, meter nojo, separar para sempre..." I can't make out the rest, but it would mean something like "Paulo Gomes, Maria Gomes, break up, fight, be sick of each other, break up forever". So not the nicest of messages lol

I am currently living in Brunei (S.E.Asia) with my husband and 2 daughters. I'm working here as a music teacher. I am sitting here in Brunei, binge watching your videos I discovered by chance last week, while in lockdown teaching online and suffering with Long Covid. All four of us got Covid in August. I’ve been watching your channel faithfully for the last two years. I love it. I’m 59, I had a stroke about 5 years ago so I don’t imagine I will ever mudlark, but instinctively I appreciate the joy of finding things on the ground. My mom used to compliment me for helping her find lost things with my “bright eyes”. You, missy, have also been given a set of wonderful bright eyes for finding things and taking such beautiful videos, so well composed with great lighting. Thank you for sharing them. Thanks for the update. Oh my, that’s such a pity! I didn’t even see any email from the Library in Brooklyn commemorating her passing. It’s moments such as these that make me miss being in Jamaica. I used to work as a teacher librarian when I used to live in Jamaica. If I was still there I would have mounted a display commemorating her work, and probably have book reading competition, and book club reading among the different classes.
Maria cut her's and Paolo's images from the framed, employee photograph, and stared at them one last time. These six months they had worked together towards sobriety at Lockhart's Cocoa Room, having fled Lisbon for a new life in London. They had fought, made up, promised, struggled and fought again, until she could take it no more. He was hopelessly lost in drink. She scribbled down her tearful accusations, and then stuffed the picture into the small, purple bottle in which Paolo had long hidden his whisky. Wrapping it thick in tape as she sobbed, she flung the container far out into the Thames. "He shall never deceive me again", she thought, smashing still more plates and cups, "so long as their story became a permanent part of the grey mud. Now I am free ..." (Based on Mr. McClure's fine translation below.)

The message in a bottle looks like an "amarre" or break up spell...apart from the two names, words mean "break up, fight, get sick, be separated forever". They look like brother and sister, that was made by someone who wants those sibling's relationship ruined forever. Black magig, bad thing. Don't throw it away to the river again, burn it please.

Those are C.H. Guyot suspender buckles. As detectorist I carry a small spray/ squirt bottle with water in it. It works great for blasting dirt and mud from coins and relics without rubbing them. Just a tip for you. And a huge congratulations on your "TH-cam" subscriber award!

No, not really. Nicola has respect for her finds, and they have been grounded between rocks and sand, salt and water for such a long time, some for centuries, that a kind hand rescuing them for us to see is one of the more gentle things I think they experience. And Nicola usually gives them a swish in water to get the sand off 🙂🧡

Congrats on your YT award. The Cocoa Rooms was part of the Temperance Movement which was a large international phenomenon in Victorian times we still have numerous Victorian Temperance Society Meeting Halls dotted around here in Bournemouth 👍

Seeing the old coins was so interesting. It boggles that mind to know someone several centuries ago handled them. Hopefully you will find a hat for your kayaking Play Mobile guy. Hot work kayaking in the summer. Loved all the birds you showed. The swans were marvelous.

So eventually gave up that dream... But Congrats!
I have winkled you out! I do not know if you know the children's book character named Ramona Quimby ( Beverly Cleary). She was a fun girl filled with curiosity . She would totally agree that there is something satisfying about walking in mud, particularly with new boots. There was a whole chapter about new boots. You are a Ramona, sure enough

Nice of you to have brought up Cleary's book. I remember organsing and re shelving a barrel load of them to be re shelved when I was volunteering at the library. I didn't get an opportunity to dig into any of them at the time
@@dorothygriffiths649 they are absolute delight. Mrs Cleary died this month at the glorious age of 104, So many sweet memories of her cast of characters.
Thanks for the update. Oh my, that’s such a pity! I didn’t even see any email from the Library in Brooklyn commemorating her passing. It’s moments such as these that make me miss being in Jamaica. I used to work as a teacher librarian when I used to live in Jamaica. If I was still there I would have mounted a display commemorating her work, and probably have book reading competition, and book club reading among the different classes.

She scribbled down her tearful accusations, and then stuffed the picture into the small, purple bottle in which Paolo had long hidden his whisky. Wrapping it thick in tape as she sobbed, she flung the container far out into the Thames. "He shall never deceive me again", she thought, smashing still more plates and cups, "so long as their story became a permanent part of the grey mud. Now I am free ..."

Congratulations on your award! As for the message in the bottle it seems to be Portuguese and is talking about these two children being best friends. Sempre means "forever" but so much of the ink has faded I am having a very hard time making out the bottom half.

The message in a bottle looks like an "amarre" or break up spell...apart from the two names, words mean "break up, fight, get sick, be separated forever". They look like brother and sister, that was made by someone who wants those sibling's relationship ruined forever. Black magig, bad thing. Don't throw it away to the river again, burn it please.

Those are C.H. Guyot suspender buckles. As detectorist I carry a small spray/ squirt bottle with water in it. It works great for blasting dirt and mud from coins and relics without rubbing them. Just a tip for you.

No, not really. Nicola has respect for her finds, and they have been grounded between rocks and sand, salt and water for such a long time, some for centuries, that a kind hand rescuing them for us to see is one of the more gentle things I think they experience. And Nicola usually gives them a swish in water to get the sand off 🙂🧡
