I had the joy of seeing Red perform live on stage in the early 80's. Very funny. I could hardly breathe for laughing so hard. Not a single swear word or dirty joke. Was the best show i've ever seen.
Pardon me for name dropping, but Shirley's daughter, Lori Black, was a classmate of mine in high school. Graduated in 1972. What myself and fellow classmates recall about Lori, which left a lasting impression about her, and this has been discussed among the classmates at reunions, was how quiet and reserved she was at school; she stayed in the background. I've gone through my yearbooks to look up what school organizations or activities she could have been in during her four years at Woodside High School. Nothing was found. Not even being in a theatrical play. Lori never flouted the notoriety of her being the daughter of Shirley Temple. All the classmates were aware of her mother's prominence, but we never made any special fuss with Lori; she was just a fellow student. Whenever I see vintage video or film footage of Shirley Temple over the past couple of decades, it always has me wondering what Lori's reaction would be seeing it, such as this episode of the Red Skelton Hour.
One of the BEST shows in television history! They don't make them like this anymore. My family watched this show every week when I was growing up, on Tuesday nights.
We will always love Red. My husband had the privilege of being his body guard when Red was in a art gallery in Seattle in the late 70’s. We have 2 of his paintings and a photo of Red and my husband together. Very special.❤❤
I swear that I can remember watching this episode when I was seven years old (I’m 66 now). There was one particular line (”And soap if you don’t come clean.”). Talk about persistence of memory!
This is greatness at its best. I wish I had been big enough to see these. They were shown either before I was born, or when I was very little, on a network we couldn't get.
Shirley Temple had her own series Shirley Temple' s Storybook. It ran from 1958-1961. Shirley was the hostess and starred in many of the episodes such as The Little Mermaid, The House of The Seven Gables, Little Men and many others. One year later in 1964, Mitch Miller starred Shirley Temple in an one episode of his NBC musical program telecast in color. It was an outstanding episode where Shirley at age 34 , looked gorgeous ,sang and danced beautifully just like the pro she had been all of her life , the concept of the program was that Shirley would perform musical numbers that were not part of her repertoire of her earlier career as a child performer but she an Mitch would introduce the songs she made famous which the regular cast of The Mitch Miller program and other guests performed. This color program is available in six parts on TH-cam from a PBS broadcast that re ran this episode many years ago. Visual clarity is fair but it is a treat to watch and listen to it as it was produced and directed with the highest professionalism that was the hallmark of the Mitch Miller Show . And of course Shirley is utterly charming and in great voice. A shame she never starred in musical films after 1940
@@robertcole5437 Shirley also filmed a TV pilot in 1965 for a proposed, weekly TV show called "Go Fight City Hall". The show never sold and at that point she quit show biz and became a diplomat.

David Lee Marks on Fender Stratocaster at the far left. Mike Love in his recent autobiography (as well as audiobook) describes this lip sync broadcast. Tragically David was ousted out of the group by Murray Wilson. David’s parents removed him as well, not realizing he was guaranteed royalties until 1969 as spelled out in the detail of a Capitol Records contract clause until 40 years later. Long after the millions of dollars were long gone and absorbed into the group. Long gone.

The first show without Marks on guitar was October 19, 1963 though he would stay friends and be in close contact with various band members for many years, and he would remain, unbeknownst to him, a legal member of the Beach Boys until September 27, 1967." - Wikipedia
David was really upset that Murry spelled his name without an A. He even offered to give him his own, which would have made him D'vid Marks. But Murry refused. "I am NO Murray!" was a classic put-down of the early 60's, and they nearly came to blows over it.
Oh! Those days of live TV. As the late Milton Berle once said you got what you saw, saw what you got, if you said it it went out no seven second delay as witnessed in all of Red,s shows and others of that time.
