This song is actually about a dying man saying goodbye to loved ones who have shared his life...I`ve loved this song since I was a child..Keep On Rockin'
I too first heard this when I was very young and maybe I didn't understand all the lyrics, I definitely felt the connection and have always gravitated towards it. Always takes me back to those days of curiosity and innocence.
Hi Dee, I grew up with this great song, along with Honey by Booby Goldsborough, were my favorties, just great lyrics & beautifully written, they just don't write them like this anymore
This song is a little like the story of my husband and I. We were 10 when we met, he proposed when we were 12, I said yes. When I was 14 I got sick by the time my dad took me to the dr walking pneumonia had turned to double pneumonia, my organs were starting to fail, both lungs had collapsed and the dr told my dad if he had waited another 6 hours I would have died. My dad took me home carried me to my room and put me in bed, he told my mom the dr didn’t think I was going to make it, I had to go to the dr 3 times a day for a week, my dad took me to every appointment, one day I heard someone crying outside my bedroom window, it was my future husband, it took me 6 months to recover, we just celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary. My Dr, my dad and my husband kept me from dying.
Oh wow I'm so glad your dad did the right thing and it's cute you and your husbands story happy 45th anniversary congratulations my husband and I will be celebrating our 30th this yr
My best friend and I graduated high school in 1974- we identify this song as “symbolic” of our high school years. Thankfully we are still best friends today.
Brings back a tough memory. My grandmother took poorly on Monday was taken into hospital. Tuesday I spent hours in the hospital with her. Wednesday I returned to work this song came on the radio I walked out and went to the hospital, she passed away shortly after. Thankfully time has passed I accept she’s now at peace. Beautiful song beautiful honest reaction 👏

i am now in hospice care i have very little time left. It is hard to see the sadness in my husbands eyes. I have had a wonderful life without my husband i wouldn't have hung on this long. I never say goodbye it is see you later. love to you both and God bless you. Mel and Shawn you have brought comfort and love to me and i want to tell you how much you have meant to me. Take care see you later. Awesome reaction.
There were quite a few songs in the 70's about death and dying young. It was a theme of many movies too. They really made you think. A couple of these that come to mind are "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce, a beautiful beautiful song, but very sad. "Daniel" by Elton John. "One Tin Solider" forgot the name of the group but it was a super big hit in the early 70's from the movie" Billy Jack."

Vietnam was the reality of our lives , young men were dying and we saw them on television. Every street corner in my town had wreaths for the local boys lost. There were a lot of dark songs.
I remember singing this song as a first grader. I understood it because I saw soldiers injured and dying on national tv in Vietnam. Coming from a Military family I always knew freedom isn't free. I think it caught my attention because my name was in the song.
This song was written in 1961 by a Belgian songwriter...rewritten and released in 1963 by rod mckuen. A dying man's words to his loved ones....life is very short....my late husband died suddenly one evening while we were watching tv...tell the ones you love how much they mean to you ❤and that you love them everyday....and make amends with those while you can 😘♥️
60s music was about something. Deep, heartfelt and completely different from today's music. Then... we had Vietnam, and the music changed again. We put our lives into meaningful 🎵 🎶
This song is a hard one for me. In fact this is the first time I've listened to it for years. When my dad was dying of cancer, he asked to see my sister and me, just to say goodbye. He said 'I will be gone soon Michelle, you brightened my life so I will say goodbye now.' Heartbreaking song.

I loved this when it came out in 1974 and having since lost two wives, both to illness, the first aged just 32 (together 17 years); and the second nearly 4 years ago, aged 67 (together 24 years), this song certainly is so very poignant in my life. Yet, with both of them, I have great children and other friends and relations who have been there for me when I needed them most - missing both still hurts like hell though Great reaction guys. There's a line in one particular song I'm gonna want on either the order of service, or my gravestone (or maybe both) when the time comes (hoping I've got many years left yet btw) - and that is from the beautiful: Life Is A Long Song by Jethro Tull. The line? - Life's a long song, but the tune ends too soon for us all Maybe try a reaction to it, please (studio single version)
This came out when I was 11 or 12 years old, all the kids singing it in the playground at school in the UK, we didn't really understand the lyrics back then, but we all loved it and reminds me so much of that mid-70s time. Was a big hit in the UK.

You two are so sweet, emotional, and passionate in your reactions. I also love that you take the song back to the beginning in nearly every song after your initial reaction. Thank you
I've watched a few of your reactions, you react together, not as one, but in connection with each other. It' so good to see. Keep reacting and keep together. Love is great but it is empty without care and respect for each other. Stay well, respect from Down Under.
Oh boy...ive lost most of my family recently, this song epitomises the raw emotion any human goes through from loss. Its the only song i know thats touches and scratches every nerve in my body when i hear it...and the only song i cry too every time i hear it.
This was one of my mom's favorite songs cuase it made her happy even though it's about loss. It shows the positive side which it all the memories and experiences that were shared. She was diabetic and beat lung cancer but the chemo compromised her immune system and gang green took her when she was recovering from surgery. I made a special hard rock/psychedelic version just for her and played it at the funeral. Made me smile see you two get the same joy out of the song I do.
Lost my sister so many years ago, I remember her and I singing this song together. Now this song takes me back to those days with her. Her favorite song. 😢
This song was a favorite of mine as a kid and my best friend and I made it our song when she had to move away , we did loss contact after a few years but we had joy and we had fun , she was like a sister. and this song takes me right back, such a touching song
This is the first song I fell in love with. I was six years old playing the forty five over and over on my toy plastic record player. I remember that despite my age I somehow understood what this song was about. Just simply a wonderfully beautiful piece of music that never fails to leave a lump in my throat.
Another song I loved growing up in the 70’s and one that I played over and over. Definitely a tear jerker but also a really great tune musically. Another tearjerker worth checking out is I’ll put you together again by Hot Chocolate…Its a real thought provoking tune especially during these days where so many people are struggling with their Mental Health and I think it would be a really good one for you to react to.
The original version of this song - called “Le Moribond” (translated “The Dying Man”) and sung in French - was based on the tale of an old man dying of heartache due to his wife cheating on him with his best friend.
This translation is a saccharine sweet translation from the original. Michelle, is his wife who he hints has been having affairs behind his back. 'Papa' in the original French is 'Father' as in the Catholic Priest who has been taking more than a professional interest in his wife, and the life long friend in the first verse cannot (/has not) wait to replace him in the marriage bed. - Therefore, as written 'Le Moribond' is a dying man's ode to betrayal.
Wow, I knew what lyrics were coming and both of your faces reacted exactly in unison when the subject matter was revealed. You both got it... beautiful.
this song always brings tears from me, I lost my wife of nine years when she was 34 of an opiate overdose, so I had the line "But the stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach" put on her headstone
Used too sing this back in the day, sunny days. Now my season's are nearly over and so glad I came across this song again. Thanks for the memories of so long ago when I was a child and it was my season's in the sun 💕☮️🇬🇧
Terry was playing golf with his friend when his friend told him he only had a few months left to live. This is the song that came from that friendship.
The way their facial expressions change when Terry Jacks first mentions dying is why this song still resonates almost 50 years later. It sounds happy until the reality of death is introduced. After that, the sobering reality of saying your final goodbye to your loved ones is juxtaposed against an upbeat melody and beautiful chorus.
This song is actually about a dying man saying goodbye to loved ones who have shared his life...I`ve loved this song since I was a child..Keep On Rockin'

I had the same thought about "Honey" (great song), and I would add "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" by Wayne Newton.
Yes Honey will bring tears to your eyes
Definitely. "Don't cry daddy" by Elvis Presley is another one.
"Shannon" by Henry Gross. "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor and the response from Carol King "You've Got a Friend"
Yes makes me cry, so does Running Bear and Last Kiss , and Tell Laura I love her and some others.

U get it
This translation is a saccharine sweet translation from the original.
I finally know after 45yrs who did this song, never really searched but am glad to finally know. I was a kid but got the meaning even then.
My husband's favorite song thanks for reacting to this beautiful song 💓
Loved your reaction, I remember this when it came came out, it was heavy and it was deep.
Today's songs are about getting into someone's pants. Yesterday's songs were about getting into someone's heart.
Amen
Wow, I knew what lyrics were coming and both of your faces reacted exactly in unison when the subject matter was revealed.
You both got it... beautiful.
Terry Jacks was in a band called The Poppy Family which had a top ten hit in 1970 with Which Way You Goin' Billy
this song always brings tears from me, I lost my wife of nine years when she was 34 of an opiate overdose, so I had the line "But the stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach" put on her headstone
I also heard this when i was a kid .Tearing up now when i hear it.This song is EPIC
Haven’t heard this in decades.
Great song that really pulls on the heartstrings.
Oh my sweet children, I had to chuckle when you said "that sounds like a good time"...knowing you were about to get your hearts broken.

Used too sing this back in the day, sunny days. Now my season's are nearly over and so glad I came across this song again. Thanks for the memories of so long ago when I was a child and it was my season's in the sun 💕☮️🇬🇧
Henry Gross "Shannon"..A Beautiful Classic
Terry was playing golf with his friend when his friend told him he only had a few months left to live. This is the song that came from that friendship.
I remember hearing this when I was a little kid! I was way to young to understand the lyrics 😊 so I just felt the joy of the music 🎵
I have always LOVED this song.
