Ok the forearm tattoo that matches perfectly the shape of the guitar and completes it on the top left corner is one of the most satisfying thing I've ever seen 1:50
I've used this guitar and brought this with me through living in three different states for over 7 years and I really love it. I tried a few different models back in the day and I remember they had two of these and one sounded kind of quiet and bass-y and the other one sounded loud and bright and full. I got that one. Haven't looked back. I won't need another acoustic guitar for a while, if ever. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a nice guitar that they can buy even if its their first acoustic or first guitar ever. There are few guitar like that, where you can start with it and finish with it without feeling like you're missing out, this is one of them.
Tony, so glad you reviewed the 114ce. I have a 214ce steel and a 214ce Nylon. Both great for the value I paid. I'm saving for a better Taylor, but so happy you reviewed the 114ce! Thanks
I just bought a new Taylor 110 e W . $1050 in Canada, Truly The Absolute Best Acoustic Guitar I’ve Ever Played Or Owned . It’s Electric. Excellent !!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Best investment is to buy a top tier Martin with some heavy wear or finish cracks for $1500-1800 and fit it with a pickup. You will never need to upgrade
i got my 314ce vbrace for 1700usd used for 7 months and still have 3 months warranty. a used guitar doesnt mean always be a less than a brandnew one. if you try your best finding a used nice one. its a super deal. i actually almost ended getting a brandnew 214ce. but really wanted a solid wood one. glad i waited. :)
I was a drummer for 20 years and gave it up about 10 years ago because I thought I'd taken that skillset about as far as I'd wanted. I then decided to take up guitar, but I was at a point in my life when I was starting to work alone in my home studio more, so I wasn't getting many opportunities to hear one acoustic guitar vice another. I have a Dean Performer and an Ibanez AEG, each costing about $300ish. I also have a Yamaha APX700, but I really didn't count that one because it's a thin body and the tone is going to suffer a little bit because of the loss of depth. The dean turned out to be my favorite and I played it for years. For the longest time I believed that no other sub $1,000 guitar could sound any better than that Dean. But then I had the opportunity to play this one at a music store and it stole my heart. Lots of bottom end but plenty of bright tones, sustain and projection too. I was completely wrong. This guitar rocks and I walked out of the store that day with one. The tuners are buttery smooth and hold their tune well. The hardware and construction is quality throughout. There are lots of great choices in this price range from, Sigma, Takamine, Breedlove, Martin and more, and its all a matter of what sound youre looking for, but if you try this one out and love the sound, I think you will be very pleased with the purchase, as I am.
I love mine! For the price, it sounded the best to me. I've owned several guitars, including the PRS SE Angelus Custom. Not that the Angelus was bad, I just didn't like the chunky neck profile. Some people will love that about it. The tone of the PRS was different, but I loved how it sounded.
new to guitars. bought a travel fender for £120 ($160 approx) then went and played some Taylors. Omg i thought, it was amazing. I even tried some super expensive guitars of another well known brand and it sucked by comparison. The strings just feel so smooth and don't cut you, you hardly have to press down on it, so nice to play. I feel like i must be missing something because compared to all the others I tried Taylor aren't even most expensive and even the cheapest ones are amazing
I have this guitar. At the time I bought it, I was a intermediate player and this was my first “high end” guitar. Boy it has served me well. sounds fantastic, but I do think I’m in need of an upgrade. My budget is around $1400-1600 now and my next guitar will hopefully be my lifelong guitar
Not sure if anyone has cleared this up or not, but microphones need preamps in order to give any usable signal. Preamps boost microphone signals to line level, which is a jump of about 60-75dB. Mixing consoles and DAWs wouldn't see any mic signal without a preamp. If there's a mic involved, there IS a preamp. That being said, most preamps these days are pretty transparent, so they won't color the sound. Great video as always!
I’ve got one of these guitars. Love it. Had it about 10 years now. Never realised it was sapelle wood on the back, or that it was laminate. Guess I need to save up for a hard top! Great vid thanks!
I have this guitar and love it! this taylor is a big upgrade from your average $300 acoustic. I compared this guitar to the higher end taylors and some other brands but I loved the sound of this and the 214ce better. definitely worth the money if you plan on buying a high quality acoustic.
I remember, years ago, I went into the biggest guitar store in DC. I played every guitar they had; took me all day. I ended up with the Taylor. NONE of the other guitars were even close. Easy choice. Great sound, but it ended up having neck problems, probably solved by now.
@@petermartinaitis8166 Well guitars with solid tops tend to have a more rich and full tone. But guitars that are all laminate can also sound good and I honestly think it's dumb people charge more for solid tops but whatever it is what it is
Sounds just like mine. Good projection and sustain. Same buzzing and muddled sound when strumming chords, the highs seem to project more than the lows. Sounds best when playing single notes to my ears. It is and was my first guitar, I don't regret the choice. You have to start somewhere, will be looking for something warmer with a shorter scale length in the future though.
I was in the same position you are a few years back and went with the 514ce SHORT SCALE. My 214ce was a really good guitar but I will NEVER part with my beloved 514. Tropical mahogany with western redwood cedar top. So warm and yet such clarity. Great for all styles and great to sing with. That wood combo and the GA body is also great for plugged in sound.
I have played the PRS SE and the yare not all consistent to tone quality. I played some that were nice but most 100 series IMO sound better. the PRS has a tendency to sound a bit sterile. Even the high end ones can be hit or miss!
I played a PRS right before I picked up this Taylor...I bought the Taylor. The PRS was a pretty guitar but it had a really warm sound and I like the brighter tone of this model taylor
@@benb2125 Maybe, but it's too dear for a guitar for most people, nor is it necessary to spend that much to get a well built, nicely finished, tonally pleasing guitar. Not saying its not a nice guitar, but its spending on flattering the ego not performance in most cases.

i've looked everywhere but can't seem to find the names of the songs you play for testing each guitar. love them. do you have links to the names or tabs?
Tony, I love you brother! But, if one were to go by how any of the guitars you have ever reviewed sound through computer speakers, they should all sell for pretty much the same price. I'm sure you know what I mean :-)
Great guitar, but the 114e is a better value at $200 cheaper. The only difference? No cut away. Why would a cut away be over a 3rd of the value of the guitar? Good guitars, but the 114e is best value.
Bunch of know it alls. If you think you can tell a huge difference in the same guitar with or without electronics your full of shit. It would be very subtle if you could.
I was gonna buy this one until I heard a 314ce. This is a very fine guitar but the sound of the solid wood 314 is just miles better. I'm so glad I saved a bit longer and got the solid wood one!
+Jay Xu well I don't quite like the more decorated looks of the 814 so that was out of the question from the beginning. The 314 design makes it look like any other ordinary guitar until you play it.
Absolutely. I would not recommend the plywood Taylors. They are overpriced. But the solid wood Taylors are better than the cheaper solid wood guitars. When you start spending over $1999 you get into heaven territory with either Martin or Taylor.
I own one of these and wish I didn't. However, almost everything said on this video is true. However, I believe the quality control is severely lacking for this manufacturer. I have owned 2 Taylor 114ce guitars. I originally bought my first Tayor 114ce from Guitar Center. It had a bad rattle in the 2 top strings on the 3 fret and up. I took it back after a week to Guitar Center (they have a 60 day no questions return policy). Waited for a service guy to look at it (but forget about service at the Guitar Center) So after waiting about 45 minutes for the tech who wasn't around to look at it, I just returned it and got my money back. I waited about a month or so and went back in to check out their stock of Taylor 114ce (I loved the sound and the price was right). I found the one on display and played it, no rattles, sounded great so I bought it. This time the problem wasn't rattling strings, it was about staying in tune! Every day I played it when I started out, I would have to retune it. And it wasn't on the same strings that would go out of tune all the time. I kind of got used to that, and thought it was something to do with being new, etc. and passed the 60 day period. Well I jam with 3 other players and they hardly ever have to retune like I do so I finally assumed something was wrong with this guitar, just like the first one I purchased. I replaced the strings twice, made it even worse. Now it will go out of tune even when I am playing it. Nice sounding cheap junk! My Martin, my old Washburn, which I haven't played in over a month, is still in tune. Could be that Taylor is marketing its seconds to Guitar Center to give them discounts in pricing for volume sales. But either way, if Taylor feels so cavalier to market disguised second grade stuff, I would stay away from this manufacturer if you can. I know, the sound is beautiful and I know some one who owns same guitar with no problems. But I encountered not one, but 2 Taylor lemons from the Guitar Center. Its only 6 months old and I am going to have to pay some one to look at whats going on with the neck. Being a lower priced guitar, its probably not worth the $$$$. Just a lesson learned....
greatgambino If it doesn’t stay in tune it’s usually an improperly cut nut. Easy and cheap fix usually. Can also upgrade the tuners to some Gotoh or the like.
Check the bridge I've owned Taylor's never will again$1,200 for a 214 c e deluxe I kept my humidity at 47 to54 at all times... Even in the case ON each end of the bridge toward the back of the guitar it was lifting away from the body I was told it would do that to protect it from cracking THE BRIDGE when the humidity wasn't right JUST ASK TAYLOR ABOUT IT which I don't believe I've got Yamaha plus other BRANDS never had that PROBLEM....
Still allot of dough for a laminate back and sides but he does make it sound great. The Yamaha ll16 ARE series offers more bang for buck at about the same price
Do you give lessons cause all I need to learn is picking and strumming while picking like you did in the video. I love the guitar it's amazing and this is a great review
As far as proper acoustics go, I've owned Seagull (Entourage, Maritime) and Taylor (GS Mini, 114ce, 316ce) and when I'm just strumming around, the Seagull sounds so beautiful and should beat the pants off a Taylor. But when I'm actually playing songs on it with other people, or I put a mic on it to record it, the Taylor sounds perfect because it knows where it should be in the mix, and the Seagull needs a lot of EQ to make it work. If you love that big warm acoustic sound, great, you're not going to get it from a Taylor. But when you are on stage with two electric guitars and you wonder what happened to your tone, you'll wish you had a Taylor.
If you're really asking if the 114ce is the best guitar for the money, (in this price range) my money would go toward getting a Martin Road Series, Guild GAD Series, or Yamaha "A" Series.
Jim A I definitely agree with you. I haven't had any experience with the GAD or A series but when I played a 114 and dsr2 side-by-side, I definitely heard a much warmer and richer tone from the Martin. It's all subjective, of course, so maybe the Taylor brightness just isn't for me. Idk.
I am not sure why all the guitar stores and guitar videos all ignore the $800-$900 solid Rosewood back and sides guitars that are out there right now I believe Blueridge, Seagull, Washburn, Yamaha, Guild, Alvarez, Epiphone all(?) do this. Most have scalloped bracing. They nearly all sound better to me than the plywood Taylor's and Martins you seem to delight in advertising. Although I enjoy your channel a great deal you were being dishonest in the fact that you are only displaying guitars that you were selling. You don't include guitars you don't sell in your features. So really what you're saying is that the Taylor is better than the Martin or whatever other brand you sell.
I like the sound of this guitar. What is the action like? Most of the acoustic guitars I've tried come from the factory with what I consider pretty high action. Why is that? Electric guitars are typically much easier to play because they have lower action, when set up right.)
Jerome Dechant i just bought one the action is low enough to solo or what ever you want coming from just playing electrics this is my first acoustic and it is very comfortable to play
I made a comparison between this and Crafter. So, Taylor definitely sounds better. Don't know why but even solid Crafter sounds like metal and cut the ears.
The 114 and 214 are great guitars. They sound amazing and certainly feel amazing. I just wonder why Taylor produces them with 1 11/16's vs. 1 3/4. Perhaps Taylor feels these are "beginner" guitars and the 1 11/16 nut width is easier to learn on? I would think that 1.75 would be easier to learn on. If I'm not mistaken, every other Taylor model (aside from the 1 & 2 series, GS) has the 1.75 nut width.
Because Taylor isn't stupid. They know how to get more money out of us. It's not a coincidence the 314s have both 1 3/4 inch nut AND all solid wood. Bastards.
illy sigelman I’ve played a few of the 200 series and I didn’t care for them. I was going to go for the new 314 V-Class but I honestly liked the sound and playability of the 114.
$400 guitar priced at $900. Using walnut and charge $900? When people say laminate, they mean "here is a guitar that will stay in tune for a poor person".
I just picked up this model today with natural finish. It's my first Taylor. Been playing fenders before. Any suggestions on what I should look for next? Has to at least be an acoustic electric and have a cutaway. I read some comments here n I see a lot of haters but this Taylor sounds better than the best fender ive bought just saying
Adam Degrace Taylor 316ce is a wonderful next choice. It'd definitely be a step up in price, volume, and quality, as the 316ce is an all solid wood American guitar with a slightly larger body that's not quite as big as a dreadnought, and it still has that unmistakable Taylor sound, very balanced and bright. At that price range, you should also consider maybe a Gibson J45 or something like that, which has a completely different sound and aesthetic. But if you've caught the Taylor bug (as I have), then the 316ce is an inspired choice.
Played both today at guitar center. I think playability wise, I liked the PRS just a tad better but the Taylor had a much richer sound to me. The 114ce really sold me. I think I will be going back soon to buy one.
Personally especially here in Canada i was looking at a SE at $789 and the 114ce at $1099. I could here and feel a huge difference between the two.... also Canadian Pricing sucks lol
I won a 114've at the Denver music festival in 2017 . WOW what a blessing it's my favorite acoustic guitar for doing my ministry work for the GOSPEL. THANK YOU JESUS! IT IS A GREAT GUITAR FOR ANYONE!
I wouldn't waste any money on a 100, 200, or 300 series Taylor. Can get the same and even way better sound from other brands. For around $700, even cheaper when on sale, Seagulls SWS (Solid Wood Series) guitars are the absolute best value for the money hands down! And this is coming from a Breedlove guy.
This was a demo & quick description, not a review or a comparison. Is a Taylor 114ce the best guitar for the money? Based on this video, I have no idea.
Got mine for 500 used, mint condition, I love the guitar so much, to me, it sounds just as good, if not, better than the expensive taylors, martins, seagull, etc.
Ok the forearm tattoo that matches perfectly the shape of the guitar and completes it on the top left corner is one of the most satisfying thing I've ever seen 1:50

Right on
@@matteo-nf1kv a beginner's guitar at 1500 I don't think so
Absolutely the best for being new in that price point...the taylor 224c koa is to my ears the best sounding guitar period.. guess I'm easy..
Still allot of dough for a laminate back and sides but he does make it sound great. The Yamaha ll16 ARE series offers more bang for buck at about the same price
Wich better? this or Gs Mini, i want a guitar to record my music, also, could be nice to hear your opinions and experiences.
What's the name of that melody at 3:02 ? Tab?
Thanks.
Last Steam Engine Train
Do you give lessons cause all I need to learn is picking and strumming while picking like you did in the video. I love the guitar it's amazing and this is a great review
Tony offers online lessons. Check out his program at tonypolecastro.com
whats the song he played at 0:23?
If i want a warm sound, i'd go for martin.
I have a Larrivée OM-03r, and I think for the quality vs. price its a really nice guitar.
Is Music Villa is a good site to order guitars??
I would have been cool if you said stuff like what material is the nut made of oh and maybe comprated the tone to a martin in the same price range
If you're really asking if the 114ce is the best guitar for the money, (in this price range) my money would go toward getting a Martin Road Series, Guild GAD Series, or Yamaha "A" Series.
Try playing them side by side and I think you night change your mind. Just my opinion...
rtgray7 I have. Countless times.
Idk.
I have both a Taylor and a Martin. I prefer my Taylor. But you're right Zach. It's about what type of sound you prefer that really matters.
Isn't the neck on the 100s 1 and 11/16?
yes it is, def not 1 3/4" thats why I bought one
I enjoy mine!
I could not justify spending 600 more for a 3 series I'll be sticking with my 114 ce
So, what's the cost? Did I miss that?
I made a comparison between this and Crafter. So, Taylor definitely sounds better. Don't know why but even solid Crafter sounds like metal and cut the ears.
Will United break this one too?
Is this Taylor an acoustic electric? Just wondering
Mason Woods Yes. Any Taylor guitar that has a name ending with “e” is an acoustic electric.
hey tony how you doin men i love the review.
If I'm not mistaken, every other Taylor model (aside from the 1 & 2 series, GS) has the 1.75 nut width.
your talking 1/16 of an inch
Because Taylor isn't stupid. They know how to get more money out of us. It's not a coincidence the 314s have both 1 3/4 inch nut AND all solid wood. Bastards.
@@ge45gecalled39 Which makes a massive difference
i think its a better deal to add 200$ and get the 200 series
illy sigelman I’ve played a few of the 200 series and I didn’t care for them. I was going to go for the new 314 V-Class but I honestly liked the sound and playability of the 114.
thats what I just did! Got the 214ce for 1200 and im totally in love with this guitar! :D
I love that one too!
Marlon Tönsmann - just saw that you have a Taylor 214. Any chance you compared the 314? If so, what pushed you toward a 214? Thanks!
This or the GS Mini Koa. What do you enjoy playing more?
$400 guitar priced at $900. Using walnut and charge $900? When people say laminate, they mean "here is a guitar that will stay in tune for a poor person".
Can you do a baton rouge mystic review ? !!!
Nut width is less than inch and 3 quarters. Please confirm.
Taylor 114ce or taylor mini-e? Recording purpose.
hola Tony
como se llama la cancion del minuto 3:02 en adelante?
saludos desde Colombia...
What songs do you use to demonstrate the sound of the guitars in your review?
The PRS SE acoustic sounds and feels a lot better then the 114. IMO
Can't compare the price range my friend...there's a HUGE difference
Really, the PRS SE is $689 and the Taylor114ce is $799
Nicolas Rivera I didn't know that, I guess I thought you were talking about the private stock that ,indeed, are very expensive, my bad, pal!
Why no demo/review of the electronics??
Try non-cutaway version. Sounds much better!!
i have decided to skip the "sign up at the part..." because i watch alot of your videos and it gets annoying
What its name the song 3:52?
I love mine better than my 416ce!
I love my 114ce! Best value out there
I won a 114've at the Denver music festival in 2017 .
I'm thinking to chance my Martin dsr-1 for a Taylor 114ce
Can anyone tell me what song that is at 2:12 ?
"Brenda's Blues," a John Fahey tune. Fahey also wrote the "Last Steam Engine Train," in which Tony plays often...
I wish hed do the seagull s6 original
I find it "hard" to play it, and everything about the guitar seems great, it is normal???
This was a demo & quick description, not a review or a comparison. Is a Taylor 114ce the best guitar for the money? Based on this video, I have no idea.
Faith FKV - Naked Venus Cut or Taylor 114ce?
How would this guitar compare in terms of sound quality against the higher end Orangewood, like the Sage? Any knowleadgeable takers?
Got mine for 500 used, mint condition, I love the guitar so much, to me, it sounds just as good, if not, better than the expensive taylors, martins, seagull, etc.
Martins are better!
Can you please list the songs you are plaiyng?
Is it possible to get one of these taylor models without pick ups?
Yes, just about any model from Taylor can be ordered with no pickup.
Yea i found out but do you know if it also comes with cutaway? I found the 114c but there wasn't any cutaway :(
marcusfsproductions what are pick ups?
Nolan Fontaine Idk but i'll give you a hint.. i probably meant pickups don't you think?
