Im left handed aswell and I used to play skyward sword just fine with the controls inverted ( nunchuck on the left and wiimote on the right) so I this doesn't seem that hard.
From the Gameboy's perspective: Oh, Elliot's walking towards me. I bet he's doing another modding video. I can't wait to be backlit! Why does he have a Dremel? O H N O
Next: I gave the Gameboy an OLED screen and made the battery last 5 weeks and made the shell steel and encrusted the buttons in diamonds and then made it play Gameboy colour games and then made it play GBA games too and then made it 4mm thick and then made it left handed and then made it taller for no reason

Super cool! This is actually how games were intended originally in arcades back in the 70s/80s. But arcade owners wanted to make the games more difficult for people (so they would make more money) so they swapped the controls and the idea of joystick/d-pad on the left became the norm ever since.
I never had a Gameboy as a kid, I emulated a few games like Zelda and pokemon. So this actually tracks with my own experiences of using the arrows on the right and CV on the left to play the games.
I think a left handed ds makes more sense for games that require a stylus and d-pad hahaha. EDIT: remember having this struggle on my 3ds for Kid Icarus
im right handed but i always use my left (right cant do anything) and in bowsers inside story its so pecking annoying for the giant parts bc you cant see the left side
All these GB improvements is putting a smile on my face during these crappy times. They are truly the best videos coming out right now. you are answering questions i never knew i had. Thank you for your service to mankind!
If you are right handed it should feel quite normal for the d-pad to be operated with your right thumb. The funny thing is you have actually (inadvertently to you) made a right-handed Game Boy as they are left-handed by default. It all came about due to the early days of arcade gaming and developers putting the vast majority of players (who would be right-handed) at a disadvantage by swapping the controls.
As a left handed person who never got to experience the gameboy because it was literally impossible, I cannot thank you enough for what you’ve done. Can you please do the NDS as well?
I love this. I’m left handed and I love having the D pad on the left side. That’s why we notoriously hate the Atari joystick layout. But this, incredible. Just incredible, Elliot. Keep it up!
Technically, it shouldn't be any different... Just have to get used to the buttons being on the opposite side of every other console, but that's just muscle memory and takes a few days to a few weeks to feel natural.
Southpaw is generally made so you aim with your primary thumb when playing an FPS, when playing platformers it makes most sense to have it default because it is already on the left side for movement.
I'm left handed but I'm too used to how it originally is! The worst thing for me to play is the atari joystick because of how the button is placed for right handed players so I'd love a left handed version of that! 😂
@@kurokoro yeah, like it would its so weird for me when playing a handheld to have the D-pad be in the direction that my character is running to, on the right.
@@autistichades5552 Yeah since the game is not mirrored going left to rigth would be a bit confusing at first, I think there are stages of some games that are perfect for this since they start from left to right.
This made me think, it'd be kind of hilarious to have a complete mirror-image Gameboy - AB and D-pad flipped, screen display flipped, absolutely everything flipped so that if you played it in a mirror it all looked the right way around.
As a left handed I would have love this during my childhood, the same way I loved the master sysyem II stick (when most of humanity hated it). In the end I got used to play videogames like a right handed, but as a child it really pissed me off.
The wrong slope on the buttons makes sense to me, I always thought it was weird they sloped upwards in an unnatural way. Same with the NES dogbone controller.
I'm a weird one, I can only shoot a gun/bow left handed but write and do everything else right handed. The two tone color job looks nice as is, it would probably look bland monotone
This reminds me of all the times my friends got annoyed after I played their copies of Guitar Hero and forgot to turn Lefty Flip back off after I was done. The life of a left-handed person is not an easy burden to bear.
Such a cool concept. There is a way to get rid of the glossy spots where you put the body filler, though. You have to apply multiple coats of primer and sand them flat once the primer dries. Once everything is completely flat and covered in primer, the paint won't turn glossy like that.
I didn't even know they existed until recently and someone asked me if I wanted to use one. I was like heck no, I've been doing it this way since I was a toddler and not sure my hands would be capable of switching their jobs now anymore. I barely even use the mouse on a computer with my left hand because I couldn't always switch it over on work spaces
There's a difference between being left / right handed and finger movements. Everyone experiences gameboys and controllers in the same way no matter what hand you prefer writing with.
This is crazy and I love it! 😅 To actually mirror the A B button layout, maybe you could split the button square vertically and then swap them. Keep it up Elliot!
I was three quarters through the video when I wrote this, and then you mention it yourself.... Still awesome build! The a and b buttons should be opposite in hight, if that makes any sense. Basically in my opinion the button layout should have been an exactly mirrored
