The grave robbing part was actually part of Frankenstein (in a way). The original inspiration for Mary Shelley's book was an Alchemist and Physician, in which it wasn't uncommon for scientists in general back in the late 1600's and early 1700's to rob graves to study and experiment on, although it was still illegal. Johann Conrad Dippel (possibly the original doctor Frankenstein) was barred from multiple countries for robbing graves.
@Jackson Scull It is indeed true, he was banned from entering several countries for this, including Austria and Switzerland. Also, it was in his journal when they found it, although the "animating a build-a-man" thing isn't proven whatsoever.
Now I can officially say that my mother is a zombie. She was clinically dead for about 15 minutes. (not induced, it was an accident with a ladder) And while she had some brain damage from the impact (and maybe the death), she made an unprecedented recovery for how much damage there was. I mean, when she woke up, her memory literally reset every 30 seconds. I got so weirded out by her greeting me every thirty seconds, I eventually just kind of hid in a corner and read a book. (Now she's driving, so... yeah. A huge improvement.) Now the funny part is, her brain actually created fake memories of events that she expected to happen in the future, like me going to a college summer event thing. So in a way, I think she was "dreaming." Odd. But hey, I can now brag to everyone that my mom is a zombie. (Or maybe just confuse them. Either is good.)
By the way, "spleenful" is an awesome word that people should use more. And maybe "adiposity." But then I wouldn't be able to call people fat while sounding like it's a compliment.

Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret toil as I dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave or tortured the living animal to animate the lifeless clay" (35). The quote is from the 3rd edition published in 1835. I don't mean to be a uber butthurt youtuber, I just thought I would be good to ensure viewers, especially those in high school, don't misinterpret the text as it is often used in school curriculum. Love the video, keep it up!
I just learned so much about medical stuff and what goes o in your body in under 15 minutes, yet it takes my school a week to finish teaching about the parts a cell. Off Topic: Why the hell do I need to know about the parts in a cell!? I could've used that time practicing for something else useful! Like learning how to do what I want to do in the future!
Don't underestimate the importance of it though, it will help you understand more about a lot of things (only that will probably not become clear until after you learned it ;) )
I feel that way to it's like u want to get a job at subway the manager isn't going to ask u now what type of cells was in this lettuce before it came here
+Anthony Garcia I think the point of learning this stuff is to make it common knowledge, and the morw knowledge that is common the easier it is to gain new knowledge (for the human race that is).
Uhh.... k. I want to be a film director though! And if I ever find my self in a situation where I need to know the parts of a cell, I always have the internet. :/
***** The way I understand it, knowledge is a prerequisite for wisdom. Knowledge is just knowing things, wisdom is knowing what to do with it. It's like how a strong person isn't necessarily an athlete. Getting strong is easy enough, but it takes skill and precision to be an athlete. You get what I'm trying to say?
In the book Frankenstein just ran away when the monster cane to life. Didn’t say nothing. The monster was also yellow, and had missing patches of skin.
If grave robbing is not in the book, then why in the 1818 version does Frankenstein say to Walton (bc frame narrative), "Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret toil, as I dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave, or tortured the living animal to animate the lifeless clay?" It might not mean grave robbing, but it is an observation :)
Louise Goode I think MatPat got confused with what was in the book and movie. Frankenstein really was a graverobber he got all the best body parts he could find to make a beautiful man, what wasn't in the book was how he brought his creature to life. He makes sure never to tell us so it can't be replicated. So the lightening thing is a movie thing.
To be fair, he never does say exactly where he got all the pieces for his creation, at least I don't believe he did (I have read the original book)…I was looking for it, but I didn't find anything. His study was how to create life, and his time spent in graveyards could easily have been to study human anatomy, not taking body parts. Actually, "animate the lifeless clay" seems to imply that his creation WASN'T an amalgamation of body parts, but something he constructed cell by cell. That's how it always came across to me, at least.
+Kingarthur Gaming How, there can only be one brain, unless of course you use certain lobes and parts of it each bot at a time but im sure none of them will work after that
This video brought back some really sad memories for me. My grandmother was brain dead for up to a year because we didn’t want to say goodbye. She eventually passed after tears were shed. It was so painful for me and my family
Deven Hayman the frontal lobe controls decision making and logic. Basically why drunk people instantly lose most former knowledge prior to being drunk and regain it after the affect wears off.
The way it's described, he studies anatomy and such, but doesn't construct his creation from harvested body parts, at least that's not how I recall it coming across.
It's probably worth pointing out that the original novel implied that alchemy was at least part of how the creature was created. It wasn't reanimating the dead, so much as creating brand-new life!
I always thought mary shelley's frankenstein had so many wires and bolts because they used wires to replace the nervous system, I thought the bolts charged a battery powering whatever interface that sent currents to his limbs
I don't remember any media say wires but the bolts in many of them are used to Jumpstart the creature when it powers down or is in storage for (insert years here)
No, in the book Victor somehow had the knowledge of the human body we have today. No bolt or wires. Though the monster's flesh barely covered all his muscles....
+the frog look up this robotics.stackexchange.com/questions/788/do-nano-bots-that-can-fit-inside-the-human-body-actually-exist/793#793 most the links are dead but they give a good idea on the subject

+allaboutpie If you're end goal is getting a job at Subway, I'd suggest dropping out of school.
Uhh.... k. I want to be a film director though! And if I ever find my self in a situation where I need to know the parts of a cell, I always have the internet. :/
4:23 Having a "failed hand attempt" lets me know when my wife is just humoring me
The quote at the being was brilliant
alex perekhov-lef finally someone brings it up the quote was brilliant
Doesn't make sense to me. But that's because I think knowledge and wisdom is synonymous.
+alex perekhov-lef no
+Crazy Gamer Yeah?
Can I have your marbles, MatPat? I lost mine a while ago.
+MaroonThief lol
Not marbles as in brains, Sully, I mean my real marbles!
+MaroonThief i'm not sure matpat has his.
I'd take his voice box. SERIOUSLY! MatPat's VOICE IS LIQUID GOLD! My monster would be....not feared, but revered.
That too.
+DreamyNightmare oooooooooh "insert Matt's air horn here"
Correction, if his voice was liquid gold, all his innards would be incinerated
+Alton Grange J.R. (mBaBy05) but thats just a theory...
A COMMENTS THEORY
+William Stevens
Thanks for reading!
In the book Frankenstein just ran away when the monster cane to life. Didn’t say nothing. The monster was also yellow, and had missing patches of skin.
Theory on saitama
YAS!!!!
+Turnt Alien wun punsh men.
please make this happen
+Turnt Alien YES! Do that. OMG he needs to see this comment!
I hope he does.the dude is op as fuck.
Am I the only one who thought that opening quote was badass?
Maximus Gingell No. It makes perfect sense and is true to the book.
Zachary Gilmore truth doesn't make it less badass
Not only was it cool, it's an EYE OPENER.
I think he meant no as in 'no you're not the only one'
My birthday is the same day of the first successful limb transplant in 1999 yayyyyy
Hello There good job.
Flufferz 0 thank youuuuuu
General Kenobi!

The first step to real life frankenstien

Awkward to know that “knowledge” and “wisdom” is the same word in my county...
It would be a lot less dramatic😂😂
If grave robbing is not in the book, then why in the 1818 version does Frankenstein say to Walton (bc frame narrative), "Who shall conceive the horrors of my secret toil, as I dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave, or tortured the living animal to animate the lifeless clay?"
It might not mean grave robbing, but it is an observation :)
DIBS on mats brain I want SCIENCE
The best Ever beter hope it doesn't die in 3 minutes then
No I claim it
You need Austin's brains then :)
"Knowledge is knowing that Frankenstein wasn't the monster,
wisdom is knowing that Frankenstein *was* the monster."
you sir have made my day.
(but they were both monsters)
luv it 😙
Don’t forget to say so said it first
Matthew Mcwhorter the monster wasn't Frankenstein tho
This was literally stolen from the video.
Dibs on his lungs
Why
Well I called dibs on his brain
DIBS ON YOUR PANCREAS. (Because why not?) I also want your brain for those bad puns. (I probably sound like a creepy stalker by now.)
YES THE PUNS
NO I WANT THE PANCREAS!!!
You don't say
I call dibs on MatPat's brain.
(I'm gonna make a MatPatBot)
+Pastlife17 MATBOT LIVES!!!
In tis mine all mine
take his foot
Bruh you better make some copy's
+Kingarthur Gaming How, there can only be one brain, unless of course you use certain lobes and parts of it each bot at a time but im sure none of them will work after that
I want a theorist fist
fist me daddy
Matpat explaining how you can come back from your heart stopping
Me: happy Star platinum noises
I call dibs on his sense of humor
lol you need a refund
His lack there of.
I call arm just diding
I call his heart
I watched the first few seconds of the video and didn't realize that my audio is still muted. Gave me the creeps.
lool
lol
+Drace90 It is indeed better on mute
+Drace90 Had to go back and try this. Yeah, turn off the lights and keep it muted and it becomes a less pleasant experience.
+Chilon the Bright Wizard yeah, me too. So scary 😣
This video brought back some really sad memories for me. My grandmother was brain dead for up to a year because we didn’t want to say goodbye. She eventually passed after tears were shed. It was so painful for me and my family
I want his theorist brain
Me too!
Then won't you just become matt pat with a different body
I call his left brain, you can have his right brain
I call the hair
You should do a video about Chappie (about transfering counciosness of one person to a robot)
Do it on GladOS on GT
+Sam Maestri I AGREE!! i dont know much about that. i doubt it, but hey!
Chappie is amazing!
+Dejanna Mjölnir I would disagree.
sounds impossible but, yeet.
Got dibs on the vocal cords
K but... I CALL HIS LUNGS!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Lisa Jordan also good for you, your voice will sound great
Lisa Jordan :D
Thats fine, but I dibs his funny bone.
Dibs on his brain!!!
That f*c*ing line at the start, you earned the like man, keep it up. (even if its an old video)
I call his foot ligaments! I don't think they even do that. But still!
I got dibs on the frontal lobe!
I think this is where certain logic is made.
Deven Hayman the frontal lobe controls decision making and logic. Basically why drunk people instantly lose most former knowledge prior to being drunk and regain it after the affect wears off.
goddammit. I WAS SO CLOSE!
Deven Hayman Sorry dude someone got that 5 months ago
Did you watch his fnaf series?
actually in the book Frankenstein does grave rob
or maybe not I don't remember
he steals bodies from graves, essentially grave robbing, but not for valuables
Samantha Dansjin yeah but grave robbing is also defined as stealing buried corpses for medical dissection which is something he does
The way it's described, he studies anatomy and such, but doesn't construct his creation from harvested body parts, at least that's not how I recall it coming across.
I know this video is 6 years old, but holy cow does Pat do a great job!
I call dibs on 3 pints of blood, exactly three pints of blood.
+Luke Dragondoor You making a pitcher of bloody punch?
+Emily's Adventures In Horrorland
I think maybe a bloody mary.
***** Some black pudding too.
+Luke Dragondoor you can keep the blood, I want the pints :D
Dibs on his leg
This has to be one of the funniest Film (or even Game) Theories you've ever made! Keep up the good work!
Also, the first limb transplant was performed on my birthday! I am a scientific revolution!
+flyer02323 aaand therefore scientific
+flyer02323 this made me laugh so hard thank you
"I CALL HIS SPLEEN YOU BARBARIANS" This is why I love this channel
+Potatosaurus Rex take a number!
7:00 I got an ad so it sounded like:
They are literally being kept alive by machines and THIS TOOTHPASTE-
I call those beautiful eyes of yours, Mat.
+Tony Gregory you will need them. lol
Ha that pic tho xD
You have very beautiful eyes
+Tony Gregory your eyes are better
It's probably worth pointing out that the original novel implied that alchemy was at least part of how the creature was created. It wasn't reanimating the dead, so much as creating brand-new life!
+Timothy McLean WOAH
If I get part of MatPat's body, do I get to be as epic as he is?
+Fangirl Probably
KSORJ // Flimmy Now this is my main goal in life.
+Fangirl Ask for his hair or his teeth. Both of them are really nice. ;)
+Marleena Ulry Maybe more like his voice. That'd be cool.
Fangirl Yes! Definitely get his vocal cords!
DIBS ON MATPAT’S CORPSE! I have so many ideas for so many videos.
I always thought mary shelley's frankenstein had so many wires and bolts because they used wires to replace the nervous system, I thought the bolts charged a battery powering whatever interface that sent currents to his limbs
same
I don't remember any media say wires but the bolts in many of them are used to Jumpstart the creature when it powers down or is in storage for (insert years here)
No, in the book Victor somehow had the knowledge of the human body we have today. No bolt or wires. Though the monster's flesh barely covered all his muscles....
do a theory on the possibility of BIG HERO 6 robots (baymax, microbots, etc)
+the frog that would be awesome
ive been trying to figure out if those bots could be made irl, i think baymax could, but the microbots deserve a theory at least
true
+the frog look up this robotics.stackexchange.com/questions/788/do-nano-bots-that-can-fit-inside-the-human-body-actually-exist/793#793
most the links are dead but they give a good idea on the subject
wow, this is really cool, thanks man
0:00 Reading the book is knowing that both characters were originally supposed to *BOTH* be monstrous.
mallk238 but the monster in the book is evil while in the movie he is not knowing what he's doing
"Is it possible to reanimate the dead? " Only if you've got more celluloid.
Where's Dr Who part 3
Babiest Celery46 Its beyond time
😭😭😭
I have given up. When will you?
Come on MatPat!!!!
Babiest Celery45 Nonexistent. Stuck in some weird in between dimension.
Shelly would be rolling in her grave. RIP any semblance of her story.
Well, maybe her story was the basis, but it's a pretty bad novel really...
DragmaKerp I really like it.
+DragmaKerp No
+DragmaKerp The novel was excellent, a classic... :P
+DragmaKerp
You and I must look for very different things in novels.
do a theory on what the force actually is
It's a invisible wave of mini robots listening to u becuase u have a head set that lets u control them with ur brain waves
Yes
so Vamp is a jedi running on water, nano machines man
+AndroidRoo ! he should do a big hero six theory
+Deaken B ok
9:26 Me who watches Dr. House:
"Oh yes, I am familiar with this. Maybe I should become a doctor after all..."
That firefighter doesn't look better... poor guy. I don't like plastic surgery, but even I, as a pre-med student with limited funds, would pay for him.
Alexander Vanscoy Pre-med, huh?
Zuha lol
He absolutely does look better. He has some sort of a face now. He has eyes that you can see, ears, a nose. Yeah, he's not the most handsome guy around, but considering where he started, I'd say he's doing pretty well.
DIBS ON HIS FACE!!!!! cuz it's adorable ; )
It is
Dibs on brain!
NOOOOO IT'S MINEEE
But I want it
Slow your roll Leatherface
can u do a theory on Capt. American? like... how he could survive for 70 YEARS!!!!
Or on how pepal can get superpowers like that
+Chris cheng that would be a comic theory... matpat is still not that far
people have lived for longer than that
+jeff blacklight they made a movie from the comics
Noelle Matthews but is not the same as the comics
Wait, so when I was in clinical death in my surgery in 2014
I WAS DIED
IM A ZOMBIE !!!
Wait lots of people did die , there are zombies walking among us
