16 Minutes! This really was a big one and so much work. When I chose this rack I didn't know how much there will be to talk about. But I chose a rack where I also mess up shots and don't run out, so that it's more relateable and we have a bit of safety play and kicking involved. Thanks for watching!
I haven't played in a few years and have gotten rusty. But I have to say that your videos and excellent instruction have been very helpful. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
I just have to say you're the best training speaker I've ever watched and listened to. The extra trouble to actually show WHERE we should hit for english, where it's anticipated to go, etc. is GREATLY helpful and appreciated.... A forever fan as well as other folks I play with in and out of the pool league... Thanks, Chase

Thank you for the multiple ways and instructive placement on where to make contact on cue ball and explanation of out come on each shot and the understanding, visualization. Again thank you Mr.Sharivari for these instructional videos.
man you have done another great job. I watch your videos over and over to improve my skills so thank you for doing such a great job. I know it's a lot of work but never doubt that you are making many people happy and we have improved with these videos. Thank you.
We will never know how much work you put into the video, but I found it very interesting as well as informative. Thanks for your time and talent. Please do more of these as we all benefit from such good instructional videos.
This is an awesome lesson. I have been guilty of trying to play the shots I see on tv. Obviously my skill is way lower than the pros. Thanks for helping me to see shot probability.
Great video Sharivari. Another consideration for hitting the 5 ball is to use right english. This would more or less "hold the cue ball" and bring it through the middle of the table so that you end on the left side on the 6. Also, for some players including myself, hitting outside (left) english on the 5 may yield a lower shotmaking probability because you have to account for deflection and also hit with speed to go around the table. It's easy to miss that shot if you don't do well with thin cuts + outside english. Using inside (right) english will allow you cut (or maybe overcut) the object ball and thus make the pocket "bigger."
This was the first thought I had too when I saw the shot - I definitely wouldn't have tried going up and down with follow because I would have risked crashing into the 7 or 9, and I wouldn't have even thought of the 4-railer
For those curious about the math, you can multiply the prob of making the shot times the prob of getting position in order to evaluate the prob of success of the shot as a whole. This can be useful for evaluating two diff alternative shots
that is assuming equal weightage on making and positioning where as the truth is that making is far more important than positioning. So you may want to give a higher weightage to making as sharivari does as well in one of the shots he makes in the corner, don't have a simple rule, assess everything case by case as he does
Best instructional videos out there!! My game is getting much better! Beating the guys who work at the pool hall and being able to recognise mistakes by other players definitely builds my confidence! Thanks!!
Thank you for your hard work! You have the best instructional videos and they keep getting better! I’ve only been playing a year but I’ve learned so much from you. Keep up the great work and ignore the trolls
Wow! Just found this video, have been watching many of yours but this was new to me. Came at the perfect time. I was just getting to this concept (not as well thought out, but same idea) and as I’m also learning safeties, I have to figure the probabilities of making a good safety against trying for the shot. But this video came at the perfect time. I have only recently been more playing defensive and even to the point of deciding if I have an easy shot on the current ball, but no way to get position in the next…then thinking “but will I be in a position to safety, with good chance, on the next shot?” If not, better to safety on the easy shot instead of trying to make it. Love watching your laying out if the probabilities, and the honest evaluation of the options. I think many of us less experienced folk have a tendency to be too optimistic. We remember the times some amazing shot worked, but conveniently forget how many didn’t…always the higher number. Saving this video to watch before practices and specially before tournaments! Thanks so much, would love to see a whole series of these!
thnx for the video n lessons! As an APA 3 I have several shots down but Shot Selection and decision making is still a challenge for me. Seeing the patterns n visualizing the path of the cue ball help lots, so that even with a miss, I know my approach was correct n I had good shape on my next shot. Just gotta keep drilling n working my game. Thnx again!
6:22 Another less obvious safety shot involves thinning the 5 ball toward the long rail and going two rails to get safe behind the 8 ball. Concentrate on controlling the cue ball. As long as the 5 ball goes far enough so my opponent can’t shoot it to the side pocket, I’m happy. This also gives you 3 potential blockers - the 8, 9 and possible the 7 ball, if you really mess up.
Once again, great training video and very informative. These videos are making me think about my strategy a little more when I get on the table and put them to use.
Good afternoon. I don't know if you could give a brief explanation in a video of the balls stuck to the rail. both glued and detached in shooting areas not very easy. greetings from coahuila mexico excellent video,
excellent exposition on pool logic and positioning! I hope to reach that level someday, however, I am still stuck on concentrating on making those shots consistently....
What software do you use to simulate this and put everything together/ My kid bro is starting YouTubing and I think this info would go a long way in helping him improve the quality of the content he sends out there. Thanks in advance
Thanks Ben. I am using my Samsung Galaxy S20 to record the video. And the post production is done with Adobe Photoshop for the graphics, Adobe After Effects for "special effects", and then I am putting everything together in Adobe Premiere.
@@Sharivari Thank you champ. Keep teaching us. Thanks for the technical info too. He will appreciate. He has an S8+ which I think can do a good job in recording although it takes too much space (around gigabyte per minute-long video). Anyways, ahsante sana (Thank you so much).
Another great video. One VERY minor disagreement I have with this video is choosing the corner pocket instead of the side pocket early in the video while shooting the 5 ball. The distance the 5 ball must travel is so much less if the side pocket is chosen and shape on the next ball is easier with the side pocket choice, imo and my preference is only about 60/40 percentage wise between the two shots. The 1st point Sharivari makes is that different skill levels require different shot selections during play. This maximizes the winning percentages of each player. What good is it to shoot and then miss the "correct" shot when there may be an easier "incorrect" shot available which, if taken, increases your chance of winning that game. His 2nd point is strongly related to his 1st point. Pocketing a ball without shape on the next ball is highly preferable in most cases relative to missing the shot and with that, any chance to play safe and maintain control of the table. Pocketing easy shots or shots where at least there is a good chance to make it but with little to no chance of getting shape to make the shot after that is something else to complicate an already exasperating, albeit highly enjoyable and magical game. Do I play safe on this easy first ball or is it more prudent to pocket it and then play safe on the next ball. This strategy is highly dependent on the number of balls left on the table imo. Fewer balls on the table make competent safeties, on average much more difficult and in some cases close to impossible. In instances where making the ball is very difficult or pocketing it with shape is not feasible and a reasonable safe exists, attempting to pocket that shot is specious at best. Sometimes pocketing, shape, and the safe will all be equally difficult. Shockingly I have no advice if that happens. lol There is a high likelihood of there being thousands of situations one might encounter in a game which make part or all of these helpful basic strategies null and void. Cheers, John Noe
His original plan was to get position off of the 4ball so he could pot the 5ball into the left side pocket. However he lost cue ball control and ended up playing an accidental canon shot into the 5ball, leaving him with only safety options available. Hope this helps.
Great videos!!! I am really upset that we did not get to play each other in Germany this year because my vacation was cancelled. But next year or the year after when I come, I hope we can get together and play!
I shoot pool with what I know and able to do. I weigh the options out like you did and that's where I'm at in pool until I can do more shoots. Great video it was great information 👍. Thanks
I can respect that he showed his bad positioning. Even the pros make mistakes, but this video showed much humility, which most times is the best skill you can have in this game. Great video
Well your 5 was a sure problem but I like it because these situations happen. We are not always lit up when we step up to the league so it's important to find our best shots when possible. Yesterday I was setting it up to make 2 and 3 at a time but I was on fire. That isn't always the case so it's nice you are showing safety and alternative methods
The upkeep of the cue tip also has a lot to do with good shot making and especially with Draw shots. Can you do a video on how to take care of the cue tip and when to know that the tip has to be changed? that would be so helpful.
I LOVE the breakdown!!! Awesome, as always! I find myself working to get the tougher shot and perfect shape, time and time again; and can see how focusing on 1. Making the shot, and 2. Working for the highest probability for basic shape helps consistency. Thank you!
6:56 which is why you should've played the 4 in the side with a little follow.. the cue would hit the 9 and you would have had an easier shot with the 5 in the same side or far left corner and a possible run out...
Great video. I've learned a great deal watching your videos. What would be the better decision instead of the jump shot if you don't (or not allowed) to jump at your pool room. Stay well. GD
Thanks. I personally would've gone for the 1-rail eacape then. A bit more controlled because I don't have to manipulate the cue ball compared to the 2-railer.
Very good video. Yeah im good with the high/low and the english but lately ive been hitting the rails get cheated from the pocket. And deflection from the cue ball.
I will apologize in advance for this lengthy reply,, but please read the entire thing. it'll definitely make sense to you. And I cover a bit of the minds involvement. Ok, first, thank you for making this video!. I've always had the same argument when it comes to their right shot and my right shot. I play with a player who is better than me, by a long way. He has a lot of years and way more experience. But I'm not a slouch, I can play a bit. The issue I have, especially when we play straight pool, is that he constantly says I'm playing the "wrong" shot. My theory is exactly as yours. Although I do believe that there are more chances for the right or wrong shot, when playing straight pool.. I take the shot I'm more likely to make and still have other shots. Either way, still in control and I'm very confident in my safety play. Straight pool helps tremendously with all of my games, especially 8 ball. But either way, I believe we all have our comfort level with playing OUR "right" shot. If I don't end up with some huge run, I at least have a chance to lock my opponent up, hoping he makes the first mistake in a safety war. I usually like my chances in a safety wàr. I kick well and I get the feel of the table speed after a couple of racks. So I agree 100% that we all have our own "right or wrong" shot. At times I'm told I played the wrong shot, even if I make it, but his "right shot" was a very difficult ball to pocket, while maintaining control of the cue ball. If I'm down on a shot and questioning it, while taking my warm up strokes, I'm likely to fail. That being said,, if I'm not committed and confident in a shot, while I'm over that shot, I'm more likely to miss, or sell out with a bad safe. I have to be committed and confident that I'm playing the right shot for me to retain control while bumping more shots out of the pack. There's a book called 'Golf is Not a Game of Perfect'. It's by Dr. Bob Rotella. No matter what sport or game you play that has a lot to do with confidence and the mind, this is a great, easy read. And it's not all about golf. It's about mindset and I think it goes well with this video. I may actually read it again because I've been "off" from pool for 5 years and my confidence is almost non existent. But I do know that I can play and play very well when my mind is totally in it. And my stroke is great ...Hahaha, just joking a bit. But I highly recommend that book! For beginners to pros and everyone in between. Everyone will take something from this book and apply it to their particular discipline. Guaranteed. And no, I don't know him or get a "cut" from it. It's been around for a very long time. Thanks for the video. I'm happy that you took on this subject that has had me questioning myself more often than not. Have a great day, or night, whatever the case may be in your neck of the woods. Hit em straight and true....
You need to practice on your speed control and the shot from 4 to 5 where you needed a run thru you will have to have a longer bridge and your jump shot on the 5 you took it for given take aim before you shot like you do with a normal shot then raise your backhand. Thanks for the video!
I was thinking possibly stun the cue behind the 8 for the first safety. 9 should kill all the 5 ball speed and shouldn't leave a shot if it doesn't get safe.
At 11:30 I would use top right or right spin to place the cue ball somewhere near center for 6 ball into same pocket, then draw the cue ball for the 7 ball next. Really curious about your opinion eventho this shot is a lot harder to execute, and do you think my pattern is weird? I'm not a pro but also not a beginner just somewhere in the middle. Thank you.
13:45 on the 7, i would rather kill it with low right and land on the 8 still. The cueball even leaves the tablebed (audibly you can hear it as it hits the cushion on the shot on the 7. That makes it more of a gamble to me, to play it "around the houses" .... Just my 2 cents.
Danke.
I dont know if you answer to comments but anyways. I would have tried to draw the cue ball over the center pocket to the end of the table at 12:00 . Do you think that is a good choice or is it too dangerous for me to scratch the cue ball or miss the pot on the 6.
I am not sure what you exactly mean. If you're on your computer you can use: www.pooltable.sharivari.net to draw the situation and share the link here with me.
Got it. I had too much angle for this, because you have to consider I need to hit hard, and the cue ball will follow the tangent line for quite a while then. Even with a perfect timing and soft high quality draw shot, I would have been too afraid to scratch into the side pocket or end behind the nine.
Hello Sharivari! Can you plss give me a tip to maintain my shot everytime i play?beacause some shots i missing the shots that i can pot than i can pot before...so plss explain to me and plss give me a tips for me to maintain my shot and not to miss.. thnk u bro

Thanks a lot, very helpful video with paths of white ball. Great
More billiard lesson sir ☺️ solid supporter here Shout Sir
I'm From Philippines Sir☺️
man this is so helpful on so many level
i like this content ,, making decisions is important ,,
plz do more
thanks
Excellent Video!
The 4 ball into the side pocket would be a much easier shot for me. I prefer cut balls . I think i see angles better this way
Your a great teacher
This was very helpful to me. Thanks!
great video!
I was thinking possibly stun the cue behind the 8 for the first safety. 9 should kill all the 5 ball speed and shouldn't leave a shot if it doesn't get safe.
one of the best billiard tutorial.thank you!
Congratulations on 100k
At 11:30 I would use top right or right spin to place the cue ball somewhere near center for 6 ball into same pocket, then draw the cue ball for the 7 ball next. Really curious about your opinion eventho this shot is a lot harder to execute, and do you think my pattern is weird? I'm not a pro but also not a beginner just somewhere in the middle. Thank you.
Great content as usual....7 to 8 ball nice position if your left handed..😀
Excellent vid. We are all different.
Thanks coach great lesson indeed
This was awesome! thanks
Great lesson, great work.
wow!! i've been looking for video like this... thanks bro... get some rest...
Great content, very educational and useful. Also your videos look great. What software are you using?
Thanks. I am using Adobe Photoshop / Premiere / After Effects.
@@Sharivari Thanks
Another great vid
Great videos Sharivari! How i miss playing pool! :)
Thanks! I hope you can play again soon :)
5:33 i would thin the 5 ball to the middle diamond on the long rail and back behind the 9 and send the cueball up the table.
love your videos
Hi, thanks for your great work, i have a question: what is your game cue? best regards
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
very good editing my friend. realy helpful
THANK YOU, ITS IMPROVE MY CUE BALL
Thanx you very much tetcher 🤙👌
Danke.
Enjoyed it, thank you.
Good pool lessons
Great lesson...thanks
Philly boy appreciate you bro👍🏿
New here. And subscribed! Looking forward to watching
Great video very informative
Awesome!!! I like raffles
Thanks! Was great!

@@Sharivari Here i drew the shot and 2 possible outcomes with yellow and orange. I used blue to show how you played it in the video
Got it. I had too much angle for this, because you have to consider I need to hit hard, and the cue ball will follow the tangent line for quite a while then. Even with a perfect timing and soft high quality draw shot, I would have been too afraid to scratch into the side pocket or end behind the nine.
@@Sharivari So you think the shot is possible but risky?
Cheers!
Hello Sharivari! Can you plss give me a tip to maintain my shot everytime i play?beacause some shots i missing the shots that i can pot than i can pot before...so plss explain to me and plss give me a tips for me to maintain my shot and not to miss.. thnk u bro
