The vent garden is an awesome creature. I went in almost entirely blind to below zero, so when I stumbled across the tree spires and saw the giant top of a vent garden in the distance it was an insane experience, and going inside one is crazy too. Also, I had no idea the opening at the top could push you but it’s pretty cool to know.

It is actually possible to build a base inside of one. If you construct compartments right outside the bell and have just the right distance you can build a compartment inside of one. It is tricky to construct given the limited space (The one further south is larger and therefore easier to build inside) but it's a perfectly protected and enclosed location from predators, and you can put growbeds on its pads to diversify the plant life!

Reminds me of that one time I found a chelicerate inexplicably trapped inside one of those. It was totally harmless if approaching from outside; I could even swim right into it's jaws and be fine.
Inside I could use my knife to slash at it for long enough to have me take a breath in my prawn twice. Eventually though it dislodged itself from the bell and tried to attack me inside the vent garden so I had to leave.
Bonus: I decided to name the first vent garden I encountered Sally. Ever since then Sally has been a guiding light for me when I leave the crystal caverns.

One thing I have always wondered with the vent gardens, is if the water inside it is unique..
An explanation is if you use that mod that can change the water level at any time, if you were to set the level lower than the vent garden while you are inside it, could you still swim??? Or would it not retain that water. ( obviously a game play mechanic over a lore question)

I love the concept of the ventgarden. A creature containing a mini-ecosystem that you can swim inside? Sounds amazing! But when I actually visited in the game, I found it just a little disappointing. When I heard “mini-ecosystem” I was expecting something more varied and complex. Fish swimming in and out, many different plants with their own unique role. Instead, the interior just felt kind of empty. Don’t get me wrong, it was super cool, but once the initial excitement wore off it was a bit underwhelming. The “mini-ecosystem” was more like a symbiotic relationship between two species with a couple of generic extras thrown in. Once you went in and got your spiral plant samples, there wasn’t really any reason to stick around. Especially not with a Chelly patrolling the area
