    1:56 Dandruff is over production of fungus already present on scalp. Melesazia ovelus. Causes acceleration of formation on new skin cells. Does not give old skin cells time to naturally flake away. Large clumps of cells form. This mixes with sebum on scalp. The oilier the scalp the worse the condition can be.
    3:11 Seboreic dermatitis, or psoriasis
    Seborric can cause yellow clumps and cause hair shedding.
    4:27 Don’t grease scalp want it to produce enough sebum on its own. Once every two weeks almond or jojoba oil. Castor oil could clog pores create dependency
    5:14 Tea tree oil

    She hits the spot about hydration. After drinking about at least 3 liters of steam distilled water for over half year, my dandruff slowly dissapeared. Also washing my hair with it helped making it keep softer and make it shinier.
    Avoid hard water. Distilled is the way to go.

    (5/5) That combined with the high amount of dust and lint it attracts will create the illusion of thickener hair. I don’t see a problem with using castor oil on just your hair strands on occasions, especially if you want to add shine and a light hold for a particular style. But, I do suggest using some of your gut feeling and some common sense when it comes to putting it on your scalp, especially if your scalp is already functioning normally.

  • @GreenBeauty

    (1/2) The Hydrolyzed wheat protein is not really needed for locs unless you notice that they look excessively frizzy and you want to patch up your cuticle layers. I highly recommend the Herbal Hot Oil Treatment (its a great moisture retention and scalp treatment). I also recommend mixing a few drops of the the tea tree oil to your shampoo to keep the bacteria build up at bay and to simulate blood circulation on your scalp (which will promoted hair growth).

    Wow, that sounds like a headache to go through. Yes, use only a Pure Tea Tree Oil (not mixed w/ anything else) and make sure to use it every time you wash your hair. Unlike dandruff, dermatitis is cause by something within your body the surfaces on your skin. So the tea tree oil may not completely cure you but it sure will sooth a lot of your discomfort.

    (3/5)Castor oil is like a soft glue that sticks to your skin & hair a lot more firmly then other natural oils.Its sticky & does not move easily so it quickly attracts lint & dust easily from the environment,which substantially increases the rate of build-up on your scalp.I know theres a theory in the natural hair community,that consistently rubbing castor oil on your scalp will make your grow thicker hair & will stimulate re-growth.The results u see online could be a bit misleading for 2 reasons

    (4/5) First the act of messaging you scalp (even with plain ole water) can simulate re-growth of hair (there have been many animal studies done to show this). And secondly the increased thickness of hair can very well be an illusion. Due to its chemical composition stated earlier, castor oil firmly sticks to your hair strands (stronger than other natural oils).

    Thanks for the advice. I suffer from dandruff so badly that I'm willing to see a dermatologist or tricologist to see if it's something more. You mentioned that if you have dandruff, adding oil to the scalp won't help but then you said to follow up with an herbal hot oil treatment after shampooing. Why do you suggest this if applying oil to the scalp may not work? Also why do you suggest not applying oil at all if dandruff causes the slow production of our natural sebum? Shouldn't we apply oil if we are lacking our natural oils? Idk. I need help! Thanks always Green Beauty 😊

    I had thick straight hair (oily scalp) which I was complimented for. As I moved to a different place where water was really bad I had minor hairfall, long story short something I regret to this day, one of my relative gave me an oil and said to leave it all night and wash it the next morning. I did it for 1 month and things went south, my scalp was reacted to it and I had this white creamy thing after I bath and as it dries it was not that visible, also scalp became an oil factory 😅😭(excess sebum production). I tried lot homemade stuffs and shaved my head, went to doctors and they gave me treatment for sebhorric dermatisis. After trying lot of thier shampoos and stuffs for years I have lost my thickness and lost the hairline shape I had (forehead) also it has reduced from how it was over the past 4 years but its still their and scalps excess oily. ITS BEEN 4 YEARS, RIGHT NOW WHEN I SEE THIS VIDEO IAM HAVING DOUBTS WHETHER MY CONDITION WAS AN EXCESS CASE OF DANDRUFF ALSO USING OIL LIKE COCONUT, CASTOR, WORSENED MY CONDITION.

    You have a good tone to your voice and easy to listen to. I am an elder who has a serious health issue. Anemia. I noticed the thinning of my hair last year. I also have headaches due to stress. Health wise I need to eat more green leafy veggies-I do. The problem I am experiencing now is the thinning although I use a hot oil treatment at night. I realize you are not a doctor on this subject, so can you suggest anything that will loosen my scalp so it does't feel soo tight? I appreciate any advice you can give. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.

      It sounds like most of the issues you are experiencing is definitely linked to your current state of health. It's best to focus on stabilizing your full internal health. The rest will follow. For now, you can try scalp messages and doing herbal hot oil treatments from time to time won't hurt. Just make sure the herbs don't conflict with any medications you may be on.

    So, small tiny flakes would be dry scalp and dandruff would be bigger flakes? I thought I had dry scalp until I saw this video which makes me think I have dandruff. I was being lazy and hadn't washed my hair in a month and I noticed my hair was really itchy and flaky. I washed it with shampoo and conditioner only to find bigger flakes two days later after doing my hair with curlformers. I noticed a strange smell from my scalp and a sweat like feel to it while the curlformers were in my hair (I slept with them in my hair), it still smells a bit dirty now. I'm really confused. I know you aren't a doctor and this is TMI, but your videos are really helpful. What do you recommend (if you can make a recommendation)?

    Hi, first of all I want to say you are my favorite hair-centered youtuber, you explain so well and in simple terms, and I love the focus on natural ingredient and remedies.
    Secondly I want to say I am not part of your primary audience which is black women with type 4 hair, I'm Italian with type 2 hair, but since my problem is about scalp I hope I can still ask you...
    I have a tendency to dry skin. This winter in my house we mostly used wood in the fireplace to heat our house to save money. I also have to use a dehumidifyer a lot in my room because it's so damp that if I don't mold grows in there (I live near a river). When we burn wood the air gets really hot and dry around the fireplace, and since right now I'm staying at home most of the time that's where I am (it's too cold for me to stay in other rooms regularly). I have experienced snowfall-like dry dandruff twice this winter which I never had experienced before, and right now I'm not quite back to normal yet, I still have a bit of flaking. I also experience dry skin on my nose a lot. I definitely know it's dry dandruff. I also have to say that I have been ditching regular supermarket shampoo and tried to be more diy with my hair since August. My hair (type 2, naturally high porosity, dense, medium strands?) has gotten much better, I couldn't even discern there was a curl pattern in there before, it was just always poofy and dehydrated like Einstein hair(I guess I would be a 'vata' in the Ayurvedic hair department?). But I wonder if I have been disregulating my scalp ph. I have been using yogurt/fenugreek masks and conditioning rinses with sage leaf, fenugreek, aloe, and some apple cider vinegar, oiling my head as pre-poo, and sometimes I 'shampoo' my hair only with egg yolks and chickpea flour, which I leave on my head for 30 mins to be really sure it works (5 min pose time doesn't work for me; otherwise, it's excellent). These things have all been beneficial to my hair, which definitely likes less alkalinity being that it's porous on its own, but maybe they were too acidic for my scalp?? I will definitely start using ph measuring strips from now on. I was also instructed to use a medicated shampoo for dandruff but since mine is dry dandruff, I wonder if it's actually too harsh and further strips my scalp of moisture.
    What do you think I should do to ensure my scalp is well hydrated and doesn't flake anymore? I know this may be a minor issue, but it's really annoying for me...
    Thank you again for your channel, and congratulations on your beautiful baby 😀

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You can put oil on your scalp. Just try to to use too much. Use the same amount you would use on your face and messaging it into your scalp for a few minutes. Using a small amount or oil to message your scalp will help lubricate it without clogging up your pores and the message will help stimulate your sebaceous glands to start producing more oil on its own.

    • @GreenBeauty
      @GreenBeauty  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Herbal Hot Oil Treatment can be used as a leave-in and as a rinse out treatment. if you use it as a leave-in you don't have to too much, a little goes a long way. If you use it as a Herbal Hot Oil Treatment, give it time to soak in with the shower cap and/or hooded dryer then rinse out the excess oil.
