I'm really thinking in buying an affinity deck as I already have the expensive part of the deck. I barely recognise this list from the first lists from the beginnings of the format. However, it still has the same reasoning: make a 4-0 when no one is expecting it and rotate to another deck untill you notice the artifact hate have reduced enough :)
    Great video, Ammi

I'm right there with you haha. I played some OG affinity and it's so surreal to see where the deck has wound up over the years

I think this covered the basics of the deck pretty well. The deck continues to change and grow and really makes me excited about magic everytime I play it

Additional variants of affinity recently have been Sai, master thopterist and Urza affinity they both add major threats to the already good creature base

Before the days of Urza's Saga, I played Mono-Red Affinity. It packed Galvanic Blast AND Shrapnel Blast as direct damage spells. It was super quick, but got extremely grindy when needed.
It was incredibly fun. Keep in mind, this was early 2021 when I was on this. It was the best I could do for the time and I wasn't really concerned with how meta I was building. I just liked the funky robot dudes.
    Take a look!
    Creature (32)
    4x Memnite
    4x Ornithopter
    4x Stonecoil Serpent
    4x Walking Ballista
    4x Signal Pest
    4x Arcbound Ravager
    2x Steel Overseer
    4x Vault Skirge
    Instant (8)
    4x Galvanic Blast
    4x Shrapnel Blast
    Artifact (2)
    2x Cranial Plating
    2x Springleaf Drum
    Land (18)
    4x Blinkmoth Nexus
    4x Darksteel Citadel
    4x Inkmoth Nexus
    2x Mountain
    4x Spire of Industry

I really love both the modern and pioneer series! Even though i dont play either of the formats, I love learning about them! Keep up the good work.

i'm surprised there was no mention of Emry, Lurker of the Loch as a form of recursion, since it can cast an artifact from the graveyard every turn. it also has affinity's reminder text as rules text, so it technically counts as an affinity creature. milling 4 cards isn't as bad as one might think, especially if you're playing a build built around Emry
Reality Heist is an artifact version of Dig Through Time, although you have to reveal the cards you acquire since it specifies artifacts. it also has affinity's reminder text as rules text
another card worth mentioning is The Underworld Cookbook. Food tokens count towards affinity since they're artifacts, and usually there's something worth discarding. if nothing else, you could get away with Ovalchase Daredevil since it returns to your hand every time you have an artifact enter. as a side note, you can also use Academy Manufactor in tandem with Cookbook to generate lots of tokens very quickly, which makes Cranial Plating and Nettlecyst nigh impossible to defeat
last card i want to mention is Mishra's Bauble. it gives you a way to generate a little bit of card draw while also contributing well to your early game affinity counts, and you can recur it with the aforementioned Emry. i understand why people shy away from it, due to it sacrificing to draw a card, but the advantage of knowing what either player is drawing next is invaluable
you also shouldn't be playing Damping Sphere since it counteracts your affinity plays and generally makes you stumble over yourself trying to establish a board presence

I play Emry in my deck. She's really easy to get out turn one and gains you quick access to more of deck early on. Even if you don't have a bauble she normally gets things moving a lot faster. Sai master thopterist and Merridan Besieged are also good side board options for more grindy match ups.

Signal Pest can be blocked by creatures with reach, which is relevant with ambushing Endurance.

Ahh Affinity, the deck I we either love to love or love to hate.
If you're taking requests (and I totally understand if you aren't) could you do Skred Red?

    • @AmmiO2
      @AmmiO2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm not "taking requests", however, I'm always interested in decks I may not have seen or considered. Unfortunately, I believe Skred Red is too low power to warrant a primer.

@@AmmiO2 Fair. You did do a great video on Mono Red Prison which feels in some ways like a spiritual successor to Skred. Keep it up, these videos are great!

Because it needs a critical mass of artifacts for any of its payoffs to be effective.
