The lone survivor men who died will always be remembered. I corresponded once with Matt’s mother years ago, and she returned my e mail, was just such a gracious woman.
I always was so sad for Matt’s widow, and his older brother had admired Matt so much.
I remember watching this movie on tv a couple years after it came out. My wife had recently passed and I had been staying strong for my kids sake. When the movie showed the one chinook getting shot down by a rpg I lost it. Luckily nobody was home but that scene was very powerful. My dad was a chinook crew chief in Vietnam and I was named after his best friend that was killed in another chinook unit from my dad’s.
Stay strong brother.
I actually know a guy who is/was on the teams & watching the movie I was thinking about those goat herders & I'm thinking no way does my friend just let them go like that. And then seeing the Chinook get shot down, that got to me too. The operators are 1 thing but losing that many members of the QRF was unforgivable
Sorry to hear on the loss of your wife mate that's terrible.
That scene was bad. My Dad was a Chinook pilot in Vietnam. Lost him a couple of years ago.
I love hearing these stories. Always reminds me how lucky I am to have the FREEDOM I have because of Heros that have given their blood, time, sweat, tears and lives for our way of Life. God Bless and Peace be with you.
Love this channel and Bergs work !!! thanks for the service of our military no matter what level.
Shawn, you and your brothers are amazing. What you did mattered... For every night w/o sleep, a stiff back, or a joint that snaps, crackles, and pops, as you get out of a chair. Thank You.
What an emotional interview. So glad Mr Peter Berg did that movie. I have to say that no body else could have done a better job. God Bless you. ❤️🇺🇸
Berg is good at the thing he does with film, I like his style. Friday Night Lights is one that holds up. RIP to those lost on that tragedy. Stories get convoluted and murky, but at the end of the day, Lone Survivor honors those who died. And that's what matters most.
My wife and I saw this film and when it was over I couldn’t get out of my seat. It hit me so hard very well done
Unfortunately it was a work of fiction
@ bummer right 🥲
The Marines of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, who had planned OP RED WINGS, were going after a relatively low level target named Ahmed Shaw, as their previous operations, and the unit they'd replaced, had nabbed all the known high and medium value targets successfully.
Unfortunately, they were not part of a Marine Air Ground Task Force, and didn't possess organic lift assets needed to conduct it. So they asked for helo support from 160th SOAR (the famed Night Stalkers) who were assigned to Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan (CJSOTF-A). The region SOTF command was run by SEALs who only agreed as long as they were to run the recon, and act as the main effort assault element to conduct the air assault raid against the target buildings thought to house the HVTs, while the rest of the Marine infantry company tasked with supporting missions, specifically the outer cordon. Because they had no options, and they wanted the mission to go ahead to nab the bad guy, the Marines agreed. This is not uncommon, its actually the norm. SOCOM are often on the lookout for good missions and they often get them from "poaching" intel or fully developed ops from conventional units.
Per the planning of Red Wings, the recon element was was going to be inserting the day before on the high ground nearby to three named areas of interest (NAI) that were supposed to be under observation to spot the targets. They were supposed to not only confirm the presence of Shaw, but also provide additional intel. 2/3 had planned to conduct the recon using a Scout Sniper six man team, headed by a very experienced team leader. They had worked in that area often before, knew the relative ground, knew the limitations of radios, etc. Their plan was to get helo lifted miles away from the objective, land, then infiltrate by foot.
When the SEALs poached the recon mission, the new recon element was a four man team who had never worked recon in Afghanistan before, weren't trained in recon, only one individual ever having deployed to a combat zone before. They ignored advice to bring more powerful radios, as the Marines knew from experience that the one the SEALs brought couldn't push out far enough, it didn't have enough power. Additionally, the SEAL recon team didn't have a Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency (PACE) plan for comms, only having the weak MBITR and a sat phone as backup. Neither were adequate, and they were warned.
More so, their plan was significantly flawed. Not wanting to spent the time and energy walking to the objective, they decided to get helo inserted a few hundred meters away. They attempted to mitigate the risk of landing near directly on the Observation Point (OP) by having numerous false insertions done all over the valley area over the previous week, to keep the locals guessing, which only ended up tipping them off that an operation was in the works. But in recon, its an outright sin to ever airlift onto the OP. Every measure must be taken to keep it hidden, to keep the presence of the recon team hidden.
After they fast roped down on the landing zone, per norm, the fast ropes were disconnected from the helicopter, but the SEAL recon team did not hide them, they left them in the open. Locals, sent out when they'd heard the choppers, found them pretty quickly, and using their own comms, reported it back. At that time the SEAL team had made it to the high ground and beyond, were trying to find a good OP to overwatch the NAIs, which proved difficult as the position they initially chose at night proved poor when light came at dawn. After daybreak they moved OPs.
Map of area and NAI and OPs
The locals, knowing ISAF rules of engagement, sent up some unarmed individuals, with radios, with some sheep, into the hills to scout them out. This is a common TTP in COIN ops to find snipers and recon element hide sites. In Iraq, they'd sent kids or unarmed adults to check on certain buildings, knowing we wouldn't kill them if we found them. If they found us, they'd report back. It worked during Red Wings. The SEAL recon team was spotted. Compromised, they detained the sheepherders.
At that point the operation was blown. They have just been soft compromised, though without knowing it they'd also been hard compromised as those herders were part of a deliberate counter-recon element so Shaw and the enemy fighters in the village knew they'd been caught when they didn't report back. But because the SEAL recon team never established a formal plan for being compromised they had to make the decision on the spot of what to do. Instead of executing the actions of a pre-made drill for compromise, (depending on the story version) they got into a debate about what to do and even possibly held a vote. Confusion was also on what to do with the detainees. AT NO TIME WAS KILLING THEM ACTUALLY A LEGAL OPTION. Or realistic. The easiest thing to do would have been to gag them and flex cuff them to a tree. Instead they let them go (where they instantly ran off to warn everyone), while the SEALs picked up and moved, but not far.
So after being compromised, the SEALs moved to high ground to make the call on their radio to alert the command element what had happened. Note, they didn't vacate the area, they moved maybe a hundred meters away from where they'd been spotted. Meanwhile, their comms weren't working, so the radio traffic was broken taking far longer than it should have without any real benefit of transmitting information.
Meanwhile, the local enemy, realistically numbering about 12 fighters, having been briefed by the returning herders on the location of the SEALs, their size, their weapons, created a plan, climbed the hills to reach a position where they could ambush the infidels on their way back up to the high ground which was on the way back to the LZ (which they sent RPG gunners to overwatch in case a helicopter showed up).
Finally, the SEAL recon team moving back toward the high ground through a draw (the NE Gulch), but got ambushed at relatively close range by roughly a squad sized element in strength, with machine guns. Possibly RPG and mortar, though in the video the insurgents made I never saw evidence of explosive weaponry.
Map of ambush, blue arrow is SEAL retreat
The fight was brief, and the SEALs that weren't hit immediately tried to break contact downhill. Luttrell effectively fell down the mountain, while the patrol leader, Mike Murphy, made a call on the sat phone before dying. The other two died during this time too. They didn't kill any of the locals, it was an entirely one sided fight.
The Quick Reaction Force 10 SEALs in a 160th SOAR Chinook, escorted by two Apaches. The SEAL mission commander aboard the Chinook ordered the pilots to reach the LZ ASAP, and because the Chinook flies faster than the Apaches they arrived first. Because the Apaches weren't present, despite them having the thermal optics that would have been able to visually clear the landing zone, and the weaponry to physically clear it, the Chinook flared and started its landing, in broad daylight, under the observation of RPG gunner stationed there, and was targeted and hit, crashing, killing all onboard.
Map of area of operations, with original RT insertion LZ and QRF LZ/Shootdown pos marked
Another SOCOM QRF element, of primarily Rangers, were sent in the next day, they landed elsewhere and walked in, they are the ones who found Luttrell, who had been rescued by a villager in a local village, who apparently still had all his mags, loaded. They also recovered the bodies and secured the helicopter crash site.
Besides recovering all weapons and equipment belonging to the SEALs, and having video footage of the fight, the local leader and target of the raid, Ahmed Shaw, also got a computer they'd brought that once broken into possessed the schematics of the US embassy in Kabul, as well as other sensitive information. He took that intel, and the videos, and cobbled together an effective propaganda video that earned him major credibility, which led to increased funding, recruitment, etc., causing him to turn into a legitimate High Value Target.
This is a copy paste and some sentences would be links but it’s an old website.
Berg makes meaningful, impactful, important films. I appreciate that.
Danny Dietz, Michael P. Murphy, Eric S. Patton, Daniel R. Healy, Mathew G. Axelson, and James Shu are the real heroes.
Its a real shame practically the entire movie and the book are an absolute lie. And that is no way to disrespect any of the men that died on that mountain, in fact its the opposite. I have a profound respect for all Vets, especially those who were KIA. I want their story to be told properly and authentically.
yes made me very sad to see the truth poor guys that fell under such horrible situation
Huge Peter Berg fan ever since he was in that Medical show, not ER but the other one that had a few great actors in it! And it was written very well!
Great movie based on an entirely fictional account. Nothing but love for Peter Berg
Really surprised to see Peter Berg on your show. I didn't think this kind of thing was his speed.
Berg is a huge supporter of the Military and Veterans
This was a very emotional interview to watch. I read the book and saw the movie.
One of my all-time favorite movies for sure!
Thank you Mr. Berg
Thank you for what you do Mr. Ryan!!
Peter Berg doing damage control, now that we all know the Whole Lone Survivor story was literally a Pentagon script handed to Marcus…Not that he isn’t a bad ass…but this whole movie is a lie…
Care to provide links to source?
Just google it. Plenty of first hand accounts of the actual story as well as insurgent video of the actual ambush
Well your correct kind of, the situation is true but way over built up, it wasn't a 100 or 200 Taliban soilders it was more like 8-15, and Marcus Luttrell soon as the bullets started flying he threw down his rifle and quit, took off running up the mountain and he left his buddies yelling at him on the radio for help, Axel would have been the true lone survivor he lived for 10 days after Marcus was picked up. I hope Marcus had his trident ripped from his military record. The fact that he has a political position the US government disgusts me!
@Woodytomahawk he dosent hold political off his brother does
@ thank you for clearing that up Morgan does got it
Excellent interview
Peter Berg, skier extraordinaire in Aspen Extreme.
Speaking to the commenters, not Peter. Peter doesn’t know better. You can’t hide behind the true losses and tragedy, and by default the story is above scrutiny.
It’s been a well known fact for years in the veteran community that this story was false. There are numerous people that were there, that denied what was told in the book and in the movie. That’s not up for debate.
That doesn’t mean we have to deny everything having to do with the story. We can still watch and appreciate the people who tried to do right by service members, because it’s not like they knew NSW have a habit of getting ahead of certain stories by pushing their own narrative with a furious vigor.
The DoD wrote the book
In other words
It was damage control from the beginning
My favorite was "Mile 22." Great movie!
Hasnt it been well established that this particular movie was dishonest to the point of being fictional?
Yes, the whole movie is bullshit. Marcus Luttrell ran away while his friends were being killed.
Peter Berg is not to blame for that. He just went off the book that was written years before. Peter Berg just wants to make a good movie and be rich. He doesn’t care if the story is true or accurate
@@Devdogs not just the book but also the DOD
@@sudorights yeah that still has nothing to do with Peter Berg. There’s no reason to lash out at him
And what part he is talking about is VERY TRUE DANNY , AXE AND MIKEY WAS TOUGH AS NAILS AND TRUE SPARTAN WARRIORS!!!
Latrell was found by Army dudes with full mags, and the air footage shows him running away the whole time instead of engaging.
Berg couldn’t have known at the time how much Marcus Latrell lied about what happened. Marcus is a complete liar and needs to be held accountable.
And you have proof of any lies?
What did he lie about?
@stephenwcarter6919 Yeah there is. The Rangers who rescued him said he had no big injuries minus 1 bullet wound in the butt cheek, he said he got into a huge gunfight but they said he barely used any ammo, plus the movie shows he tried to rescue Mike Murphy but in real life he admitted (on Anderson Cooper) that he put his gun down & covered his ears instead. The Rangers also asked him where his team was & he said they were all dead. They found the bodies of 2 of them but couldn't find Axel & didnt find him until 10 days later. When they did find him they said it looked like he had been dead for only a day.
@@stephenwcarter6919the book victory point talks about it I have a wall of text I can post.
It talks about how the socom poached the mission from USMC marines, how marines warned the seals that the radios they had weren’t powerful enough. How none of the seals except one had even seen combat and none of them had trained in recon most were trained as UDT divers (so command sent them to landlocked Afghanistan) how they didn’t wanna ruc to the OP so they opted to be fast roped on it (which is a sin in special recon ops) they did a series of false insertions to try and Pavlov dog the insurgents into not checking all this did btw was tip locals of that an operation was in the works. Shaw sent those goat herders as deliberate counter recon this isn’t new this is what insurgents have done in Iraq and Afghanistan send unarmed dudes sometimes kids knowing you can’t hurt them ( at no point was killing them a legal or realistic option) they would still have been hard compromised as shaw wouldn’t have had a report back and if they did do the illegal option they would have gave insurgents a propaganda victory and still most likely lost. Insurgents realistically were around 12 fighters who after linking up with the counter recon team knew the seals size and firepower and simply splint into two team with a pkm each and RPGs. It couldn’t have been 200 to 100 that village could only support around 35 people tops these villages do subsistence farming. I don’t blame Luttrel tbh he was doing what the DOD asked of him I blame his command for sending him and his friends knowing of the seals never say no attitude they’re programmed to have.
You are correct. I know by the time I had my 3rd deployment to Afghanistan the word was out and there was no stopping it. He was definitely looked down upon. But the superiors set him up on that ride and he took it gladly
I love that movie, even though many of the details have been exposed as complete bullshit regarding Luttrell.
Nobody tells a story better than Peter Berg especially when his main character is played by Mark.
Peter Berg according to people got bad info.from Marcus Latrell, I saw the movie it was moving. The guy did what he could with the information..
Dude, Shocker is and will always be your best film. SHOCKER was the bomb!!
Surprised Ryder isn’t pushing back on this…
This whole controversy is really been a recent thing, and there’s some pretty good testimony that Marcus Latrell was told that they were going to rewrite his story for him. And Marcus Latrell has had to lie ever since. Because that story the true story was going to embarrass not only the seal community, but the US military. and they got Latrell to keep his mouth shut
Should be renamed "Lone deserter" .😊
Regardless of how DOD and Navy screwed up the story, The men that died that day are legends. Turbine 33 are legends. Dietz, Axelson, and Mikey are all legends. Shame on the lie.
Another great interview, this was different though, almost like they were interviewing each other
Your best guest because he actually interviewed you. You guys were awesome in this episode. I still remember him talking crap when his actor who was a wounded vet was passed over by espn for an award they gave to Bruce Jenner cause he became a woman.
Those men were absolute chads. They were incredibly tough.
What’s said is how this opp has been exposed
I think the movie was well done. Great director too.
I bought this movie when it came out. I have only watched it one time. Its impact on me is such that I can’t bring myself to watch it again. Best money I ever spent. FDNY NYPD NYEMT USSF
The movie is Hollywood bs. Don’t drink the kool-Aid, bro.
While I think he did a fantastic job honoring those who died in that ambush..... it's been widely known for awhile that drone footage exists showing Marcus Luttrell running away and leaving his brothers on that mountain. When found all of his magazines were full, he never fired a shot. This isn't up for debate, a lot of members from that recovery op to get Marcus have testified to that. I love the story, it's great for our troops and helps recruit I suppose..... but it's not what really happened.
Tho well never see that footage....we do get to see the taljban footage of some of it and you can literally hear the team screaming "Marcus come back" during the fight...the fact is those men knew they were in an unwinnable situation and still stood their ground and fout with hinor and dignity. We all focus on how much it got wrong but at least it shows the men in a positive light as the warriors they were
Yea I just commented before I saw this and I said I don't believe a word of Marcus latrell story.
There’s no way but you got the info they wanted you to tell everyone
Not to diminish the Seals and 160th crew’s sacrifice, but the movie was showing exaggerated tales. Even Marcus Luttrell admitted.
That Taliban recruiting video they are talking about at the end is that the same one you could still find on TH-cam that shows the gunfight with Murphys body on the ground and taliban stealing his gear??
The weird part was when they were respectful to Murphy
Considering it wasn’t true, it was a good flick!
Turns out most of this movie was a lie, Matt survived a day or two after the event but didn’t get rescued cause Marcus said everyone was dead.
Sux luttrel already admitted it was a lie on his own podcast lmao luttrel an tim kennedy should get together and write a new movie epic lol
Shawn keep doing what you are doing. Ignore the flak & naysayers. S/F Bible & Sword.
Stop with gay ahh comments
I started watching but then I realized it wasn't going to be an expose of the truth. Sad that Shawn hasn't addressed some of the tall tales pushed on his podcasts. Quick to point out when people who called him out and were proven wrong, but not so much the other way.
If it is true that Latrell still had all his magazines fully loaded. Then that means he deserted his team during the fight of their lives. He should not be treated as a hero in any way. His team families should sue him for all the money he made off the book and movie.
Calm down. Nobody wants the unqualified and unsolicited opinion of an illiterate...
Berg.
The movie admitted by man him self to not even be close to reality!!!
As a police officer..I never commented on someone else’s call/situation unless I had been there at the time. Maybe everyone putting their opinions out there should shut up unless they were there. Oh..and opinions are like assholes..everyone has one
"The movie is a lie."
GEOINT
Pretty sad Shawn wouldn’t ask him how he feels about Latrell’s entire story being 100% lies.
Why would sean...he has jocko and Tim Kennedy and does videos in past with luttrell...he knows they are all liars...and Chris Kyle beat his wife and was a piece of shit trying to rack up bodys...
Dude was great in Copland!
Has Marcus ever been interviewed by Shawn?
That was the hardest movie that I have ever seen. Everyone in the theater just sat in tears until we were asked to leave for the next movie.
Lone Survivor was 95% fiction. Not sure why's Shawn Ryan still entertains this. To me he's selling his soul to be the next Joe Rogan.
Tim Kennedy. Liar. Marcus. Liar. Navy liars. Used to be my favourite movie. Can’t watch now.
Remind me of what John McPhee said very briefly in one of his interview, he said he never could understand how that incident went down the way it said it did cos to him, that didn’t make sense at all. Just Sth not adding up.
Omg you got the guy from Aspen Extreme?!
Peter! Hi there! It's Dutch JJ from the internship in New York at the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward. Is there any way to get in touch again? Would love to know how you are doing.
Sad they went with lone runners narrative..coward ..his words
Im sorry but the Book and subsequent movie turned out to be BS and a sham.
Too bad the movie was based on a lie.
I genuinely feel bad for Peter and all the gold star families (Murphy's, Dietz's and Axelson's) for enduring the lies of Marcus and Navy.
2nd best war movie of all time....turns out it's based on a lie
But the movie was fake.
Why do you say so?
@@Loneranger670 the WHOLE story was fake. Marcus Luttrell RAN AWAY. When he was rescued, he said everyone was dead. They were not. Because he said this, QRF was not in a hurry to find them. His comanding officer was found days later, having died in the 24 hours previous. He could of been saved. Marcus just disclosed HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW A BOOK WAS written.
It was written for him. Numerous Afganis, present, from the Taliban to the villigers called bullshit. The 100 Taliban fighters were only 7-10... the goat herder shitwas fake, ALL OF IT WAS FAKE ie Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch etc etc etc...Tim Kennedy is a fraud. It's all fake.
Brother, you can easlily look it up on youtube.
This movie got torn apart for being inaccurate as fk! Marcus NEVER FIRED A SINGLE ROUND AS HIS TEAM WAS ENGAGED AND HE RAN AWAY. He is on record saying this
I've never heard that before.
I don't like how Danny was portrayed in the movie. it wasn't Pete's fault .
God bless
Read the book. Its not perfect, but is close to the truth. It was a doomed mission.
Luttrells story is completely fabricated. He didn't get shot and blown up multiple times, he didn't break his back and crawl 7 or 8 miles. He ran like a coward, was found un injured, no bullet wounds, no broken back, he had all his mags. And then lied and said his whole team was dead when Axe was still in the fight. If he wouldn't have said they were all dead they would have went on immediate extraction and would have found Axe in bad shape but still alive. Instead they went 3 or 4 days later and when they did find him he had expended all his ammo and also was said he had only been dead for 36 hrs at most. Luttrell admitted to dropping his rifle and covering his ears because Murphy was yelling for him while he was getting shot multiple times then ultimately dying from those mortal wounds. That's when he picked up ran and left his team behind like the coward he truly is. And this isn't at all my opinion these are facts exposed by guys who were there and guys who have seen the thermal imaging of him running down the mountain while his team was in the fight doing the job they trained for. And there wasn't hundreds of guys like he said. There was 30 at the very most. I'd be ashamed of myself if I was Peter and made this movie.
They had Marcus interviewing directors ???? That says a whole lot about
I am sure the weight was enormous. But that pales in comparison to the weight of how blatantly - and demonstrably - false this movie was.
This is such crap. I feel so duped
Its a movie lol not a documentery
@ from a book that was a lie
Great actor but please let the lone survivor BS GO!
I heard Marcus lutrell didnt fight in that battle!!! Left his team behind to die. Crazy!
People hear shit everyday, doesn’t mean it’s true. Nobody knows except him.
The weight of making a lie
Syzmanski strikes again. Roberts Ridge Part 2.
This comments section is going to be so insane
Please give us a tour of the room someday...
The movie is all lies. Imagine being a loser like Marcus…. Imagine living with yourself after your lies got your teammates killed. If he hadn’t said they were all dead Axelson might have been saved.
The fact that Shawn isn’t exposing these lies discredits everything he does.
Expose these lies, and the lies around Robert’s Ridge. Those seals abandoned John Chapman.
Have to agree Naval Special Warfare gave Marcus a choice be a millionaire or go down as a coward we’ve seen his choice. Chapmans MOH was held up by NSW cause they were embarrassed. Disgraceful
They gave the seal Slab MOH when they decided to give Chapmans MOH posthumously
The movie is 75% fiction. The weight of what ? Spelling the heroes marcus ran away from Names correctly?
5 full magazines upon being rescued doesn't exactly scream i fought for my life and had to run... it screams i ran like a coward and should've never been a seal in the first place.
Marcus's twin brother filled in for him during B.U.D.S for 2-3 days so Marcus could have a wittle rest with his binky.
Aka - Marcus would've immediately failed B.U.D.S if the leadership found out he left for 2-3 days, and had his twin pretend to be him
❤
Mark Whalberg was a terrible casting choice. Nothing against his acting but the dude is too big a star and 20 years older than the guy he is playing. Also because he is the highest name you think he is most important, which he wasn’t.
Here come the basement dweller internet trolls...
No don't disrespect to the fallen soldiers but I don't believe a word of Marcus latrell story.
The beginning clip made me think of 50 cent. As 9 bullets struck him at close range through his arms legs face and chest… i know he is no freedom fighter but you cant deny how tough that dude was to survive that.. and on a side not his would be assassin was gunned down 3 weeks later.
You failed at making an accurate movie and the lies make Operation Red Wings worse. Absolutely disgusting!
Latrell left his brothers. He’s no hero
It's amazing how many people in the comments section were on that mountain and know the whole story. I thought it was just the 4 of them
No one said they were on the mountain… do some research.
Go learn about what happened to John Chapman during the battle of Roberts ridge… read and listen to what happened to Eddie Gallagher… actually look into the accounts of the ones who recovered Marcus, and what Marcus himself has said. You’ll see the pattern.
@@jamannk Pretending like you know what happened when you weren't there is a foolish idea. It sure sounds like a lot of people think they were on that mountain. And what does John Chapman have to do this?
Lone Coward
The people in the video actually do stuff or have done stuff and are still doing stuff. Maybe if all you guys, that haven't done stuff, that comment about fictional things would do stuff you wouldn't have to call people out on things you have no idea about to make yourselves feel like you've done stuff.. Go buy an old car and work on it or something. Shit..
I'm not into fictional recounts of events....sorry!
Shawn I like most of your content but Red Wings/lone survivor is not accurate. Very disappointing you won’t tell the truth,
The story is a lie
🖕🖕🖕 And you were there? Or, you know this because anonymous people said stuff on the internet? 🤡🤡🤡
😂😂 literally a made up BS story
To bad lone survivor was a made up story and Marcus is a liar
Creating garbage propaganda for the US government sounds like a tough road to hoe.
You didn’t even have time to watch the entire clip before you posted this comment. Think for yourself… don’t let others dictate your thoughts. It’s true freedom
@@Devdogsthe movie is all BS, you like being lied to dont you?
Oh yeah Marcus sacrificed
