Sir I must admit that you did a great job for a conversion, it’s basic but complete and very comfortably safe camping.. awesome work and it’s a perfect stealthy camper. Enjoy sir well done and well deserved.
I know you posted this 3 years ago, but this helps me tremendously. I too have a 4Runner and I need something lightweight to pull. I like the idea of having the kitchen on the back end. I think I would do it slightly different due to changing weather conditions, but that idea is nice. Love the simplicity of the layout and of course people do things that suit their needs so kudos for that sir. Thanks again for sharing!
Thanks for posting this, the build looks great and I can't believe how much you fit in there Including the bunk bed! You did a great job for $5k despite the naysayers about the outdoor kitchen, it works for you and that's what matters.
Unsure how to send you a picture of that. If you search youtube for "Portable air conditioner dual hose conversion" you can some good videos on how to do that
Great job. Well thought out. A tear drop on steroids, but affordable. I have been searching for months for something to copy/adapt and this is it. Thanks for sharing!
I like it! It would sure be nice if they had a place in my community where I could take our trailer, which is the same type as the one you have, with the door on the side, where I could have a crew build one like the one you have. For now, our trailer is used for storing the things she makes for craft shows. Well done! Excellent design!
This conversion is amazing! Well designed, now you have me thinking about doing the exact same thing with the slightly bigger version! I also love mountain biking! The perfect set up! Thanks for sharing your trailer conversion!
Hi there Your trailer caught my eye right away, very nice. I’ve noticed other people having issues with rodents. Since you have aluminum, I am curious if that has worked to protect your trailer from rodents getting in. Thanks
I think it would be impossible for rodents to get into this trailer, to be honest I don't even think insects can get in. If you look under the trailer there are no holes or passage ways that anything can enter. The floor of the trailer is plywood, so I guess in theory a very determined rat could chew its way through. Hope that helps.
I like the build. I do have reservations on hanging bikes on the rear from the forks though. I think the risk of having a bike fall off would have me rethinking that mounting.
Nicely done. Well thought out design. Camping is meant to put you in the outdoors. This gives you a secure place to sleep and protection from any crappy weather.
One of the added benefits to this approach to a camper is the fact that it's titled as a trailer and you can put a permanent tag on it as can be seen on your trailer. If it's titled as a camper, it's considered a dwelling and you have to renew the tag each and every year. Nicely done.
@@AdventureContinuesAgain Yeah, I thought I spotted that NC permanent tag just like the ones I have on my trailers, which I love. I have two campers and inquired at NCDMV about putting permanent tags on them, but the lady told me you couldn't do that. The permanent tags are a one time expense that's a little pricier, but buying new tag stickers every year on the campers quickly adds up to that cost, and the fact that you never have to send off for renewals every year is a real bonus. Nice job.
Wow, love your camper and your true camping philosophy. Camping has changed to bringing your home out to a barren parking lot, sad! I love the approach of staying comfortable, dry, warm/cool and getting away from it all (instead of bringing it all with you, LOL). Happy camping!
One more suggestion, I also coated the roof with a product called Cool Seal, found in roofing Dept. My interior is insulated and covered but adding that cool seal also helped, the seal can also be tinted don't let the paint Dept tell you it can't!
Wow, what a great job! The only thing I noticed was the face of the upper kitchen cabinets could have been brought forward to be almost up against the closed back doors of the trailer. Then you would have had shelving or cabinets near the head of the upper bunk bed and TV area. Just a though to give a little more space. You are very talented to make this. I have a 4runner too.
Dude I dig it. The bunk bed was the exact solution I needed to see. The rear kitchen is perfect. With the exception of my own preferences and a shower/toilet insert I am going to use a lot of your design in our refit. Perfect hunting trailer design.
well shoot! I was making plans to do tent camping this summer but now I don't think so. Guess i have to invest in something like yours. Thanks for the reminder!
Love your conversion. How about using kitty liter or wood chips inside plastic bag for your commode. Keeps the smells down and you can just toss bag in regular garbage.
@@jaycevessier7554 You missed the other ingredient , kitty litter. People throw cat box litter in the trash everyday. What's the difference. it's all bio degradeable .
And another nice part is that if anything leaks or breaks, you can probably figure out what and likely a cheap fix. If something breaks or leaks in a factory built camper, RV or 5th wheel, good luck. Expect to wait a while and spend a bunch.
Pete, I know that you have the 4.0L V6 in your 4Runner. Install a “Dry” cold air intake and have your 4Runner tuned with the Overland Torque Tune, (OTT). The OTT will increase your horsepower by 25 and your torque also by 25 more lb ft. You’ll also get 1-3 MORE mpg. We bought a new 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed. Our (my) Tacoma has the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6. The factory horsepower is 278 and the torque is 265 at 3,800 RPM. After installing the cold air intake and the OTT, my Tacoma now has 318 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque at 2,300 RPM. I’m getting 22mpg at 82mph with the cruise control set on I-90 in Montana. Here in north central Washington state I set the cruise on 75mph on I-90 and I’m getting 23.5 - 25mpg. Before installing the intake and the OTT, I was getting 21 mpg in WA and 19-20mpg in MT. The OTT costs $450 - $500 and it’s worth every penny. Safe travels, Man !
Great build thanks for sharing. Would be cool if kitchen swung out as well on heady duty hinges kinda like tire of overlanding trucks. Then could take down the wall and have access for bikes or other uses if wanting to pull bed out quick to load cargo or haul something... love window placements as well!
Very nice. Simple, affordable, does what you need it to do. Looks good inside and out. Light and easier to tow than most. I am impressed. A very small generator or battery bank and inverter would run most everything (maybe not A/C) so you could be off grid if you wanted. Enjoy your camper. Thanks for sharing this.
I revisited it, love your set up still. It is perfect. We are getting ready to start a little 5 x 8, just my husband and me plus our mini schnauzer mix which we love. We will be using a portable a/c because we had brought it for the pop up we had. Also, we will have a port a potty. Our shower will be set up around port a potty, we will hook up a shower curtain like the pop-up kind. We mostly use campground rest rooms. Small kitchen in front, and a pull-out L shaped bed/sofa combo. We brought a used cargo. Lots of ideas form yours. Thanks again.
Pete this is so amazingly helpful. I am an upholster and do a lot of work on the road but I want to use it for camping also so I was thinking of making drop down tables that could be used for beds also when camping. Love the idea of the head in the nose and all the little spaces for storage. The after photos are so helpful in seeing wall mounting and electrical. I will contact diamond which i what i believe is your trailer brand. Thanks for the help.
I made a mistake, the trailer I have is Dynamite not Diamond. But I think they are all made in Georgia and trailers company's put their sticker brand on them. Good luck with your build. Its fun and gratifying to do.
Great set up we are thinking of doing something like this for a beach runner and wrapping it. So when we hit the beach with our family we have room for everyone and our stuff
I myself converted my 6 by 12 trailer into a camper. People trip out on it. The best thing I ever did was that I insulated underneath with extra wide and thick insulation and I enclosed it with roofing tin! I used self tapping screws and a roof adhesive called NP-1 to seal all the joints and the outside edges! I tow mine with a Dodge Dakota with a V-6 engine and and I enclosed the bottom you can definitely tell a difference with the gas mileage and the wind drag!
6x12 V nose is the handiest trailer ever. Better built than a camp trailer. I use mine for all things. My 12' boat slides in on a rack. UTV underneath. Porta potty, porta sink, queen air mattress. Battery for lights. Truck has a topper for generator and all gear. Awning and cook table outside. Everything comes out if I need to haul stuff. Makes a great storage unit when not in use. That is a fantastic build!
Careful in bear country. The grey water from your dishes has enough odour to draw bears in. They may not bother you, but some poor unsuspecting couple or family may put a tent right where you dumped the grey water the day before. The bear will try to get at what is under the tent. Let your imagination run wild there. There are parks in Canada where it’s illegal to dump your grey water at the campsite like that. All that being said, you did an excellent job converting this camper!! Much nicer than a teardrop. Still fairly aerodynamic with the V-nose and you can stand up!! The A/C is a great solution. Nice!! 😊
My husband and I got a tiny toy hauler {10.5} because, like you, we like to be outside. We are Practicing for the RV life for retirement in a few years! Thanks for the video. It is a Great build. I bet you’re making great memories with your nine year old. Love the bike rack. Enjoy!
Two little kids could sleep in that top bunk. Two small adults who like spooning could sleep in the top bunk with a whole bunch of kids in the lower bunk. This is definitely a family design. Love the teardrop-type outdoor kitchen. Like you I like to be outside when I'm camping unless you are stuck in a Walmart parking lot, then it's restaurant time.
Nice job, simple and easy to replace anything that breaks/wears out.🛠 Love to see you put a shower in the bathroom area somehow.🚿 Be handy so you wouldn't be dependent on campsite or nature heh. Thanks for sharing, good video editing 🎥
That is an awesome little camper sir. I like it because it is so simple. I may do one like it soon. Thanks for sharing. Always get great ideas from these videos.
My husband and I are looking at different options for a small trailer. We also have a 4 Runner V8 4 wheel drive with a row package that can tie 5000 lbs. We like these cargo conversions and we have also looked at the Runaway trailers. Trying to stay around $5000 You have done a nice job. Love the kitchen and the bathroom. I would like a larger bed. It is just the two of us so a queen would be nice. Love the base you built for the toliet. What brand toilet did you buy. It is a simple build that gets the job done. We really like it. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice…when my kids were young, we bought a used pop-up, which was better than our leaky tent. Your DIY cargo trailer is so much better than that pop-up, I also don’t spend time hanging inside when camping. Great job…this inspired me, not sure which direction I want to go with, but this is simple, and realistic and the cost is very reasonable. Thanks buddy!
Very, very, very cool. Congratulations. And thanks for uploading. You've given me lots of great ideas. I think I'm going to go with a little bit wider trailer so I can move a trail 125 in and out of the man door where you used to keep the mountain bike. Even if I have to detach the handlebars every time I load it up; I need some sort of motorcycle with me. Also I think I will try to make the top bunk removeable. That may be too much trouble though, since you can't use the cargo door anymore. Also I would move that spare tire and bolt it to the outside above the fenders. Anyway, cheers to you and yours. Retirement... here I come.
Great build and interesting to see different builds. I too have a 6 x12' cargo conversion trailer. I went more minimalistic with mine. Cedar fence pickets on the walls and ceiling with a rustic Pergo wood style floor with iron pipe curtain rails and Southwestern blankets on the bed, below the front counter and as a curtain which completes the rustic lodge decor. I have a twin size bed with a 10" memory foam mattress and storage under it. I ran a perimeter of white Christmas lights around the edge of the ceiling/walls vs LED for the rough and ready look. I have a 6' x 16" counter across the front with granite tiles. Fridge is below it on the left and a portable a/c will go on the right side when needed. I have a heavy duty power strip under it which run my microwave, fridge, toaster, coffee pot, ect. I have a sink sprayerconnected to an outside fitting for water inside. I ran a flat extension cord to the back with a channel going across the side door for power to my 32" computer monitor , tube amp, chargers and extra lamps. The trailer can be converted back to a cargo trailer pretty easily. Just had the roof coated and the outside redone, so my 16yo cargo trailer is functioning as my full time home when I'm in the US. I have a townhome in the Phillipines where I plan to spend most of my time.
Watched your video from one of the TH-cam recommendations. Good job on the camper build. It looks pretty good and functional. As someone else mentioned, an awning off the rear would be good for your camp kitchen. Happy camping and maybe we will see you out there.
Great job on the conversion👍👍. I'm going to do the exact same only difference will be a hinged roof over the cooking area. Once the barn doors open you can latch the roof and keep the doors in place. possibly put up a shower curtain and have an outdoor shower. Happy camping.

But the biggest crazy thing I see is people selling cargo and race car bumper pull trailers they won't too much for them I can go buy new cheaper than what they are selling them for that's why I did go by new cargo trailers on mine.
Sir I must admit that you did a great job for a conversion, it’s basic but complete and very comfortably safe camping.. awesome work and it’s a perfect stealthy camper. Enjoy sir well done and well deserved.
Hey thanks!
Thank you so much! 4runners are so awesome.
Thanks for sharing your great ideas! I'm converting a 4x6 into a microcamper and it's a challenge with such a small area.
4x6 would be a really fun build. I would like to try a 4x8 build overlander style.
Should have had the door lift upward like a teardrop so u can cook in the rain.. awesome build dude.
Thanks for posting this, the build looks great and I can't believe how much you fit in there Including the bunk bed! You did a great job for $5k despite the naysayers about the outdoor kitchen, it works for you and that's what matters.
Thanks!
Nice work! Can I get a picture of the air conditioner setup and the vents setup...return line etc. Thank you!
Nice job, thank you. I would have liked to know about how you insulated and installed the walls and ceiling.
Excellent job!
Thanks Jim!
Thanks! I hope your conversion goes well.
Did you build your conversion? What size trailer?
Hi there
Your trailer caught my eye right away, very nice.
Very nice conversion! I like the kitchen outside!
Nicely done. Well thought out design. Camping is meant to put you in the outdoors. This gives you a secure place to sleep and protection from any crappy weather.
THANKS!
One of the added benefits to this approach to a camper is the fact that it's titled as a trailer and you can put a permanent tag on it as can be seen on your trailer. If it's titled as a camper, it's considered a dwelling and you have to renew the tag each and every year. Nicely done.
Thanks for the info
@@AdventureContinuesAgain Yeah, I thought I spotted that NC permanent tag just like the ones I have on my trailers, which I love. I have two campers and inquired at NCDMV about putting permanent tags on them, but the lady told me you couldn't do that. The permanent tags are a one time expense that's a little pricier, but buying new tag stickers every year on the campers quickly adds up to that cost, and the fact that you never have to send off for renewals every year is a real bonus. Nice job.
That is a true quality build out. Excellent work and well thought out. If you ever go to sell that it'll have several people wanting it.
U got have one of the best conversations I have seen bro , so proud of your work
Thanks so much Bryan!
Brother, you did an awesome job with this project….
Thank you
Wow, love your camper and your true camping philosophy. Camping has changed to bringing your home out to a barren parking lot, sad! I love the approach of staying comfortable, dry, warm/cool and getting away from it all (instead of bringing it all with you, LOL). Happy camping!
@@neddufrene7281 Thanks!!!
Suggestion: If you can, reverse the door on the fridge so it opens the other way. Beautiful job on the camper. Love it.
Your build made me excited to do this build.
Thanks! I hope your build is great!
One more suggestion, I also coated the roof with a product called Cool Seal, found in roofing Dept. My interior is insulated and covered but adding that cool seal also helped, the seal can also be tinted don't let the paint Dept tell you it can't!
I actually just coated the roof with white dicor rubber coating 2 days ago. I can now place my hand on the roof in full son and its not even warm.
Yeah that sounds like a cool idea. I was trying to build as quickly as possible. There are a few things I might change if I were to do it again.
This is an excellent job, well put together, and some real no nonsense build out
Dude I dig it. The bunk bed was the exact solution I needed to see. The rear kitchen is perfect. With the exception of my own preferences and a shower/toilet insert I am going to use a lot of your design in our refit. Perfect hunting trailer design.
Awesome, glad you liked my ideas
well shoot! I was making plans to do tent camping this summer but now I don't think so. Guess i have to invest in something like yours. Thanks for the reminder!
Has to be one of the nicest conversion trailers I've seen.
Great job!
Thank you!
Love your conversion. How about using kitty liter or wood chips inside plastic bag for your commode. Keeps the smells down and you can just toss bag in regular garbage.
You would really put a bag full of shit and piss in your regular trash? That’s kinda messed up if you ask me
@@jaycevessier7554 Kinda convenient too
@@jaycevessier7554 You missed the other ingredient , kitty litter. People throw cat box litter in the trash everyday. What's the difference. it's all bio degradeable .
@@jaycevessier7554 do you throw diapers in the trash or pet waste?
@@Carolann_237 you know I didn’t even think of it that way, and I have two boys lol. Now that you say that I apologize for my comment.
And another nice part is that if anything leaks or breaks, you can probably figure out what and likely a cheap fix.
If something breaks or leaks in a factory built camper, RV or 5th wheel, good luck. Expect to wait a while and spend a bunch.
Yeah, pretty simple, just a giant lunch box
Ahhh! Go to overland vehicle systems for the ultimate 360 awning. We bought one for our 5 x 10 cargo and love it!!
Pete,
I know that you have the 4.0L V6 in your 4Runner.
I am a fan of barn doors. You really focussed on the essentials. Great job.
That's awesome! Glad you were able to get ideas from my camper.
I really like that. Well thought out and so functional and practical. Happy camping and mountain biking w your family.
I never thought of just using a fountain pump. Probably be great for the little camper build I’m wanting to do
I myself converted my 6 by 12 trailer into a camper.
Interesting, good to know
You did an awesome professional looking job!
Thank you so much
I like your trailer! Good work! Stay safe and happy!
Heck! This is like a million times better than a tent . . . warm and cozy! Great job!
@pakrm2023 Thanks! Im actually camping in it right now.
Wow, what a beautiful trailer. Thank you for sharing it. Safe travels.
Heck yeah for sure!
Nice!! 😊
Thanks!
I no longer dump gray water, I have a bucket for it nowadays
My husband and I got a tiny toy hauler {10.5} because, like you, we like to be outside. We are Practicing for the RV life for retirement in a few years!
Thanks for the video. It is a Great build. I bet you’re making great memories with your nine year old. Love the bike rack. Enjoy!
I like your idea for the toilet for the same reasons as you and it is nice to be safe from bears or other predators especially the two legged kind
For sure. Thanks
Thanks Paul! You should definitely build one. They make weekend camping easy.
I like your design. This is probably what I'm gonna do
Thanks for sharing! We are hoping to start our build soon and are thinking to keep things light and simple like you did. Safe Travels!
@pointaadventures5361 thanks, and good luck with your build
My husband and I are looking at different options for a small trailer. We also have a 4 Runner V8 4 wheel drive with a row package that can tie 5000 lbs. We like these cargo conversions and we have also looked at the Runaway trailers. Trying to stay around $5000 You have done a nice job. Love the kitchen and the bathroom. I would like a larger bed. It is just the two of us so a queen would be nice. Love the base you built for the toliet. What brand toilet did you buy. It is a simple build that gets the job done. We really like it. Thanks for sharing.
TOOCA Portable Camping Toilet
*Love the power underneath. Great planning. Still watching. 👍👍👍* Sharon in SC
Thanks. And I agree with everything you said.
Wow! Very innovative minimalist camper for part-time non-off-grid camping. Good going!!
Thanks
I like the power under the trailor idea no one does that. Nice bed too.
Sounds like a great project. That's the great thing about cargo trailers, you can build them exactly as you need it to be.
Very cool
Dang, sounds awesome, also so does lifestyle, Living the Dream. Congrats, Stay Safe Stay Healthy, God Bless you my friend.
I love the kitchen outside theme, the separated bed area....I love it
@rawdata7569 hey thanks
Watched your video from one of the TH-cam recommendations. Good job on the camper build. It looks pretty good and functional. As someone else mentioned, an awning off the rear would be good for your camp kitchen. Happy camping and maybe we will see you out there.
This is one of the best layouts I have seen. Great job!
Thanks!
Great job on the conversion👍👍. I'm going to do the exact same only difference will be a hinged roof over the cooking area. Once the barn doors open you can latch the roof and keep the doors in place. possibly put up a shower curtain and have an outdoor shower. Happy camping.
That sounds really cool

Awesome camper! I love the ideas. Gives me something to work with on my own build. One of the best i've seen.
Thanks! Hope it inspires your build.
This thing is awesome. You should put in a maxair fan.
Hey! Great conversion. I think too many people over think it and make it more complicated than it has to be. This turned out really cozy and nice with the benefit of a little less weight. I have a 8x16 with a ramp and extra side door, no windows. I trailed it cross country for a move and can’t get back what I financed it for it for on the West Coast. So… think I’ll do a very similar conversion. Thank you!!
Awesome and good luck with your build
You did an Awesome job! TFS!
Luv it!
I have a nose tip closed in & I like how you used that space for bathroom/storage!
Nice build!
Tnx for sharing
Thanks
Very well done!! I like the kitchen being outside also.
Thank you so much for the inspiration and ideas...currently in the planning phase of converting an enclosed 7x16 as well.
Thanks, I hope your project goes well!
That was the 1st that came to my mind lol I would do a door swing change on the fridge . Other than that I really like it. 👍I would love to have it for myself.
This is a great build man! Very well thought out design, You got everything you need with out the added bulk of weight. You got a kitchen, a small toilet for the ladies and you can sleep comfortable for 3 adults or up to 5 with little kids... build light weight as you can for safety and even have a ac hoc Portable AC unit to cool you down if you hook up Land line power to it
Thanks!
Great job. Looks great. I like how you have the kitchen set up in the back like a tear drop camper.
Yup good until it starts raining!
Awesome build. I plan on installing the same type of air conditioner in my soon to be cargo/camper but instead of cutting one hole there will now be two. Thanks for the advice!
Fore sure, you will notice a difference with the additional hose.
