  • This is my 6X12 Cargo Trailer Camper conversion. Under 2000 pounds and under $5000 dollars. Better than a teardrop camper and cheaper.

    Thanks Pete. I have owned four teardrops and are about done building a tiny camper but a friend with serious mobility issues is interested in camping and I think that a cargo trailer with a 36 inch door would be perfect for him. You have some great ideas that make economic sense.

      @@huckleberrychris I think he said: Diamond cargo empty weight 1300, around 700 pounds of gear - bed - ac - toilet etc. And GVWR 3500 pounds. Plenty of enclosed trailers for sale economically priced at the trailer manufactures and dealer lots in the middle of Douglas GA. These enclosed trailers taken care of hold their value unlike campers.

      @LookOutside... 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomtee4442 Brantley's is bigger though. and maybe a different manufacturer

    • @tomtee4442
      @tomtee4442 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not heard of that brand. They do have a, I think it's a 2000 lb GVWR single axle trailer. I'm not as familiar with the specs though. I only like to purchase the 3500 and up axles.

    • @tomtee4442
      @tomtee4442 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LookOutside... when I buy cargo trailers they mostly sit more than they run down the road I just buy the cheapest and most all of them go by the same dimensions on the inside and out some of them just use a little better quality and welding and a little bit more steel and metal used. And the stuff that comes out of the middle of Douglas Georgia is fast and economical but that's what everybody wants and buys. If you're not running it commercially, everyday and running It wide Open on the roads it should last for many and many of years. I have one that's a 2000 model and I've seen some cargo trailers still in the 1980s running around. But the biggest crazy thing I see is people selling cargo and race car bumper pull trailers they won't too much for them I can go buy new cheaper than what they are selling them for that's why I did go by new cargo trailers on mine.

    Two little kids could sleep in that top bunk. Two small adults who like spooning could sleep in the top bunk with a whole bunch of kids in the lower bunk. This is definitely a family design. Love the teardrop-type outdoor kitchen. Like you I like to be outside when I'm camping unless you are stuck in a Walmart parking lot, then it's restaurant time.

    Pete,
    I know that you have the 4.0L V6 in your 4Runner.
    Install a “Dry” cold air intake and have your 4Runner tuned with the Overland Torque Tune, (OTT).
    The OTT will increase your horsepower by 25 and your torque also by 25 more lb ft. You’ll also get 1-3 MORE mpg.
    We bought a new 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed.
    Our (my) Tacoma has the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6.
    The factory horsepower is 278 and the torque is 265 at 3,800 RPM.
    After installing the cold air intake and the OTT, my Tacoma now has 318 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque at 2,300 RPM.
    I’m getting 22mpg at 82mph with the cruise control set on I-90 in Montana.
    Here in north central Washington state I set the cruise on 75mph on I-90 and I’m getting 23.5 - 25mpg.
    Before installing the intake and the OTT, I was getting 21 mpg in WA and 19-20mpg in MT.
    The OTT costs $450 - $500 and it’s worth every penny.
    Safe travels, Man !

    Simplicity, affordability and practicality. I'm loving everything about this build! It works for him and his family, and that is all that matters. He stated pretty clearly that he does not boondock, so his setup must be perfect for campgrounds with hookups. It also sounds like when he goes camping he does not go just to sit inside his trailer and play with electronics. He wants to sit, eat and be outdoors and use his trailer for sleeping. In that case, his build is even more perfect for him and his family. That looks like one comfortable bed set up..... Well done!!!!

      @AdventureContinuesAgain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Generally, as long as your gray tank contains water that was used for washing, it's legal to dump it on the ground. Note: Some boondockers have stated that this only applies to gray water from a shower or sink that was captured in a tub or bucket, but water that was allowed to drain into the gray tank is not.

    Next month I'm going to buy a 20 foot moving truck. I want to create a small 10 x 7 living space near the cab, and then I'll wall off the back half. It'll have 2 uses: during the day it'll be used for making short/local hauls in town for people for things like furniture; that will be an easy source of income each day; $100/Load. In the evening as a ministry option, the back area will easily get turned into a nice space to sleep in, so that a homeless person can stay warm and safe. I can either make them a meal, and provide them with a food, water, clothes, hygiene products, a Bible, the hammock & sleeping bag that they slept in, and $100 cash. I need to give a huge shout out to Josh who has a YT channel called: "ACTS INITIATIVE. This week I was really inspired by his amazing 24 part series called "Dead Church", that talks about the importance of not living above and beyond, but living to constantly help others who desperately in need. So this is why I'm excited to be moving out of a stick & brick next month.

    Love this! We are Florida tent campers, and we have the portable ac etc but still the summer kills! This would be perfect for the 3 of us!! We were looking at pop ups and stuff but for the price and no insulation, couldn't justify it. I had built an enclosed trailer to haul our camping gear, but I think it's time to move on! The only down side we are having is our truck is the 4 cylinder Colorado which says it's towing capacity of 3500 but a total GVWR of 5500 so I'm a little confused on that stuff, but we def need to be camping trailer style now. Do you have blue prints for this or any advice? Thanks!!

      If stay off the interstate, keeping it at 55 on the highway, I think you would not have any problems towing it with your truck. I don't have any building plans, I kinda just winged it. My advice is to buy a cargo trailer and use your imagination. Decide on what's most important. Beds, kitchen, bathroom. Look at other camper conversions and get ideas.

    • @AdventureContinuesAgain
      @AdventureContinuesAgain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would probably want to go with a 7X14 size camper if you want an inside kitchen. I was just trying to go as small as possible and have a toilet and kitchen.

    Looks solid if you're driving on flat asphalt or concrete...would you trust that off road or deep in the mountains on fire roads?

    I have been considering a similar design, love the kitchen setup! I do 90/10% boon docking/campground. I know it's more expensive to have 2 axles, 4 tires and increased weight but I think it would handle better on a windy day or on a rough road. If you got a flat tire on a highway you almost have to pull over immediately. Does your trailer have its own brakes?

    • @AdventureContinuesAgain
      @AdventureContinuesAgain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No brakes. Its super light. I have gone down some pretty nasty fire roads with no problem. Double axle will probably ride better but decrease your fuel efficiency. Just personal preference.

    Do you by chance have the measurements for the wood used to frame the kitchen.
    Also I noticed you mudding the trailer, did you add any insulation? We are in a colder climate

    How did you add an external air intake. Is that just a hose pointed to the intake of the AC or was that a 2 hose system to begin with? Can you maybe share a better picture of the AC?

    • @AdventureContinuesAgain
      @AdventureContinuesAgain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wanted to go as small as possible, almost like a teardrop camper. Easy to tow, easy to store. I really enjoy tent camping, cooking outside, I didn't want to lose that feeling with a giant camper.

    Very nice. I'm making one that's going to look similar to that. 4x8 dimensions with a 6'3" height. I have a question. I'm framing it out of metal. I like your exterior walls what kind of material is it and where would I get it?

    • @AdventureContinuesAgain
      @AdventureContinuesAgain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exterior walls are aluminum, I purchased the trailer already built, I only did the interior. If you make a 4X8 thats only going to give your enough room for a bed, like a tear drop camper. You might find it is cheaper to purchase a cargo trailer already fabricated.
