There are two types of people in this world: Those who see it as "equipping your allies with the gear of your choice," and those who see it as taking the gear of your choice from your allies.

You mean remastered cutscenes then? Because halo 2 anniversary isn’t as good as the original because it spoiled the dark atmosphere at times. And have you ever been in the water of the last level just before Tartarus ? 😬

And yet the overall pacing is fucked and ends up making the bigger picture presentation feeling out of wack. Part of the problem is that it just doesn't really have any major story beats. It's just Noble Team defending reach, which is fun but you don't have nearly the scale of a story like the original trilogy.
I think it has a wow effect in me too. I recall coming from the first game, seeing that 2nd entry of the series and saying to myself "holy crap, how many new stuffs they added compared to the previous game!" They expanded the game in just everything, and every way possible. Story, universe, characters, voice acting, weapons, vehicles, DUEL WIELDING, the music scores are still really solid. Best thing, the creation of the point of view of the covenant, plus the arbiter. Who needs a flashlight when you can play as an invisible elite with a energy sword? It has the biggest gap of work between 2 games. They made just twice the content of the 1st game. It is just such a big achievement.
Halo CE’s campaign really felt like you were trying to survive on this ancient alien world, and it was mysterious. Something other games are missing I think
@MrWereverForever it did to an extent, but you always had the infinity in contact with you. In Halo CE, everyone from the pillar of autumn were scattered, and after the 343 guilty spark mission, you were on your own besides having cortana
I think that's why i liked the Reach and ODST campaign too. They all have this grounded reality where your goal is to survive. Personally that's the Halo experience i want and why i never cared for the main series Halo games. The covenant are a dangerous alien force that are trying to wipe out humanity. They have superior ships, superior weapons, superior armour and superior numbers. I like the Halo games that captured this, 2 and 3 never did for me. Halo 4 could have also captured this, but they screwed up everything relating to the Didact and that made their story fall apart. The Didact could have been an amazing replacement for the covenant threat, and would have worked incredibly with a flood focused trilogy. Halo 5.... Well we don't speak of that...
@@ergofiction5627 Why would they make *another* Flood-focused trilogy though? And how did they screw up everything relating to the Didact? They take the time to explain who he is, his motivation, and how he intends to carry out his plan. He’s trying to wipe out humanity and he has superior technology at his disposal. He literally fits the criteria of what you’re asking for. The story fell apart? The story might be that game’s only strength.
It's ODST for me. I really liked the change of pace going from playing as the Rookie desperately trying to survive in the city alone, then kicking ass as Dutch and Mickey. A lot of variety, amazing atmosphere, and I really liked the tactical versions of the SMG and pistol. And Nathan Fillion instantly improves any sci fi media. I think the story just missed a tragic event though, the atmosphere made you feel like all of the other troops had died at first and you were the last one left. It's the opposite of Reach in that respect.
Imagine if you could come across other drop pods with the corpses of other odsts, with audio logs showing how they died, like maybe one survived the crash but burned to death in his pod, or another who died on impact
@Dustin Smith Nobody told you you had to, because i certainly don't care. But by saying " for too many reasons ive said in other comments" expecting people to have A: either read them, or B: cared enough to find them, kinda makes your comment pointless because you won't back yourself up so commenting in the first place was a waste of time.
@Dustin Smith You're saying that like i read every comment thread with a large amount of comments in it. And again, i don't care, im just telling you that by wasting your time commenting here without backing yourself up means nobody is going to listen to you. It's not called "being lazy" it's called, i don't fucking care what every random dude on the internet has to say about their opinions on Halo. Everything is subjective. You think one thing, someone else thinks something else. You can't just state "no, and lemme tell you why my opinions right and yours is wrong" it's just ignorant. "Im guessing if you're too lazy to read those" like how arrogant are you? You're insinuating i even knew they existed, or cared enough to read through a shit ton of comments that boil down to "my opinion good your opinion bad"
@Dustin Smith How are you judging that im not "open minded" when i don't even know your arguments. Makes no sense. You clearly care about this way more than i do because you're on multiple comment threads trying to assert why you think your opinion is right and why others are wrong. It's an opinion. Look it up. Take your own advice too, might help you with that arrogance and massive ego you got. 😂 grow up kid.
Honestly, Halo ODST made me feel way cooler than any other campaign. You aren’t a super soldier, yet you survive against all odds and that’s way cooler to me than being someone you know is supposed to survive those situations, because he’s designed to
but thats not really the case. spartans died all the time and i dont think even keyes really expected chief to succeed and survive. and for most people the only reason he survives is the fact he can rewind time when he dies. it would be interesting if each player had only one life after which the game ends and stops functioning, how many people would get to the end. even on easy i usually die due to some turret debris flying on me or a multigrenade explosion wiping out everything in half mile radius. which brings in the fact how in odst you have multiple unkillable aides most of the time. that alone ruins the "we are weak expendable troopers" atmosphere.
@@kallemetsahalme5701 seriously? 2 paragraphs because of how someone feels playing a video game? Yes we all know it's very unrealistic, but it still gives the feeling that we are a badass marine when we succeed as ODSTs
Halo CEs AI is something else. Enemies feel alive in firefights, especially the elites. None of the other games have caught that feeling to the same degree imo. It’s what makes it the most fun to play.
@@saibot1246 I was about to say FEAR also had great AI. I've read a lot about the coding and design of both Halo and FEAR's AI, both take different routes to add character to your enemies.
i was playing the truth and reconciliation one day and a jackal kept shooting me from behind and i never saw him, and according to my co-op player the jackal was crouching and moving around whenever i turned around
Ranking the soundtracks for each Halo game needs to be its own separate video. It's just a completely different experience hearing ODST's music while walking around the streets of Mombasa at night.
Reach's campaign was so emotional we've gotten little to no backstory on any of them yet each death especially Jorge was like a small stab in the heart
First time playing Reach and Kat's death scene made my heart stop. First play left going 'omg how this to end!? Everyone is slowly dying and we throwing everything we have this.'
@@Pooh0Bear8 Kat was such a bitch though. She tells noble six to look for clues in that first mission and then he finds something and hands it to her where she proceeds to snatch it out of his hands and say: "not your domain six." Yeah that's why I handed it to you, bitch.
@@dieseldouche7735 bro she did that because their previous noble six died, and she felt like it was her fault, I think she did that because she did not want to get attached.
@@TheActMan it was good marketing. Subverted expectations, felt like mid 2000s for a bit when there were still butterfinger ads. Fits with the Halo 1-3 era.
Playing halo 1 for the first time definitely is a great nostalgia memory And i honestly don't have that with any of the other halos (Even though i love 2 an 3 as well)
@@GORILLA_PIMP nah all 3 for me. Halo 1 blew my mind and blew everything else out of the water. And I’ll never forget seeing the white with blue writing bungie load screen and hearing the halo 2 guitar theme for the first time. The first time I played as the arbiter and stormed the heretic controlled forerunner base. Or the time spent in matchmaking lobby’s listening to “never forget” or fighting the impossible odds to rescue Cortana from the flood ship. it’s a an era we will never see again and possibly peak gaming. Tower of power, zombies, juggernaut, and so many more, we got creative back then.
i just recently started playing halo on mcc as i just got a pc and i used to only have ps or nintendo in my family, and i loved loved loved halo ce and halo 2. just finished 2's campaign yesterday and after that "sir, finishing this fight" got me so hyped i immediately booted halo 3 after and am currently playing it. Halo seems to be as gem i missed out on due to age (im 18) and cuz i used to not want to play video games since it "wasnt for girls" and i love playing 1-2-2A-3 multiplayer. best steam sale ive ever copped and had i known i would have paid full price too.
halo 2 campaign in general is incredible letting you play as both chief and arbiter, although it isn't nearly as fun to play on legendary as CE is, i feel like all the levels in 2 are generally a lot more fun and memorable
Agreed! For me, Halo 3 is the funnest campaign but Halo 2 is my favorite. It just hits different for me, and as swaggy said, the levels/locations are so memorable and cool to play through
For story, music, and atmosphere i give it to halo 2 Halo 3 gets it for the ending, balance, level design, and graphics (seriously the graphics at that time blew my mind away).
CE's copy pasted room indeed gives a hart hit to the whole level design. Although it's only in one level, it could make you feel really tired of the game especially if you happened to get to it in a single play session like me.
Assault on the control room is simultaneously the best and worst level imo. The repeating rooms, hallways and bridges feel like they serve no purpose at all, and it drags the enjoyment down by a lot. Couldn't they easily have cut some of those parts? The rest of the level is fantastic.
I can't even believe Halo 3 ODST is even on high on the list, let alone rated high. That DLC was a mixed bag compared to Reach. Half of the ODST cast is likeable, Romero is the least favorable. I detest Veronica, if not despise her - that character was a mistake, and makes Dr. Halsey look like a queen.
And the damage in that game is UP (underpowered). The only gun that had any effective use was the shotgun, beam rifle, and to some degree the mauler, and even then, they run out of ammo really quick. Even the Bungle staff admitted Halo 3 ODST was little more than recycled left-overs from a failed Halo MMO.
Funny thing, the “I thought you’d be taller” is a reference to the first level of Combat Evolved, where a marine exclaims “He’s taller than I thought.”
@Brody Ustich well reach was set before ce and the end of the game when u get on the P.o.A you have to pan your camera to I think it’s the left or it’s the right but u see him in his veto tube
3 will always be my favorite but with that being said, I think people neglect CE because it’s not as solid in terms of level design as the others. I think people sometimes forget the context. It came out in 2001 and was revolutionary with its AI and storytelling for the time. The fact that it can even hold ground with later games is telling to how amazing of a game it actually is
Halo CE has the best level design though, by far. The levels themselves are extremely interesting, and the repetition helps show the story. Halo ce SHOWS you the story through the levels, rather than TELLING it through flashy cut-scenes. Halo CE's approach is better if you are able to appreciate it.
@@malceum Halo CE is a masterpiece but trying to spin the environment repetition as good for the story is just idiotic, it’s a fantastic game but it has flaws
Now I will say ce is my 5th favorite halo campaign counting in halo wars 1 and 2 but again the argument that something that came out long ago can't be critiqued by today's standards is a hilariously idiotic argument that is completely nostalgia blind think of pokemon gen 2 where people defend how bad gold and silver are to play because of how gamefreak thought that the pokemon craze was gonna be over and those were gonna be the last games which is fine and all but it still doesn't excuse how bad those games were and same with how people defend halo ce poor level design (besides silent cartographer and the darker mysteries in 343 guilty spark along with the flood reveal but still have copy and pasted samey rooms in the facility), poor weapon sandbox (only 3 real weapons that you will ever need shotgun, assault rifle, and magnum), a hard normal difficulty and heroic being pretty hard for a difficulty that emulates hard (again act man continues to talk about the health system in ce but forgets how slow the shield recharges where as in halo 2 it recharges a lot faster), and a story that is pretty damn good but only great if you read the flood book. TLDR people need to stop treating things that came out a long time ago as if they can't be critiqued by today's standards when that's just being nostalgia blind
Halo 2. Switching between the Arbiter and the Master Chief, the covenant civil war, the Elites allying with the humans, that was so unexpected, flying in a banshee while "Incubus-Follow" plays in the background, fighting in the Arbiter museum while "Blow me Away" is rocking.. Just so many epic and iconic moments.
"Every target is just another target" fits so well with the Fate school of quotes, "The Archer class is really full of archers." and "People die when they are killed"
The silenced SMG and magnum in ODST are actually a great combo especially on Mombasa streets even on legendary. They both have decent range and if you use the smg in short controlled bursts, you can easily mop up grunts jackles and strip brute shields from mid range. It makes you feel like a true ODST when you use this combo effectively. The only problem is ammo, but if you find the audio logs you get access to supply caches which helps.
I know halo 3 is more of a quality over quantity but I’ll be damned if I didn’t want at least 3-4 more missions. I wish we could have seen more environments to the ark.
Have you seen anything from the cut swamp level? Personally, if 343 keeps touching up the MCC then I'd love to see them finish up cut content like that
@@haydencassidy9536 You do know that 343 made the anniversary version of Halo CE and Halo 2? They added more lines and content to those games themselves... you just sound like a 343 hater.
I'm finishing 3 and i'm disappointed a little bit to don't have a lot of environment it's a lot of desert and brown i preferred odst for his atmosphere i think 3 for me need something that didn't have when i played ce (i finished on legendary) and 2 on normal maybe an anniversary version will change my words about the campaign maybe it's because after finishing halo 2 anniversary and his beautiful cinematics
Halo CE had the best "feeling" campaign with a cool unknown feeling behind it all & it felt like humanities hopes all were on your shoulders. Halo 2 has coolest missions, story, etc overall. It was so epic seeing the covenants perspective of the war & playing as the arbiter was such an amazing idea! I love that game so much from the soundtrack & every tiny detail.
even though halo 2 is so frustrating to play, i just cant stop going back to it I just love it id place it second, id place CE third because even though it was amazing it was quite simplistic which is just a sign of the times. But number 1 in my books has to be Halo 3, i was immersed from start to finish, ill never forget playing covenant and hearing "the brutes are mobilising everything theyve got" it felt like a war and when the two scarabs came it sticks with me forever and who could forget that piano tune, still sends shivers down my spine.
Have you ever been sitting in a movie theater before the movie started and thought dang im just glad to see more content from this studio or producer ? I get what tour saying i just get exited when actman post
20:51 Reach was actually the last major planet to be lost in the Human-Covenant War. It took place _right_ at the end of it all, but still before Halo: CE. It was a prequel, but not the beginning of the war. Also, Spartan III's are newers than Spartan IIs. Chief is technically the "older" generation.
The sponsor section of this video has gone down as one of the best sponsorships I've seen so far. Taking a once-in-a-lifetime sponsor that could easily be taken as a joke and then going all in with the energy you'd never expect from a sponsorship for a candy bar. Great job, and great video!
Halo Reach was my first game, then Halo 4. I got MCC last year and have played the other games but the bleakness of Reach and the vague character of six is what connects me the most with the story and aids me in immersing my self in the story. Not to say that Chief is a bad character, he’s far from it. But with six doing his absolute most to prevent the inevitable and going down like a badass hits me more than the final mission in Halo 3 or Chief going into Cryo sleep.
@Nocturne people hate on it because not matching the books. I love this game and I don't care for the books. People would hate it because the books say it fell in a few hours. I am explaining why people hate it but I love it as my first game.
I still play Reach regularly. If they had gotten rid of the weapon bloom and re-introduced some Halo 3 features, then it would’ve been on the same level as 3, despite a not-as-good-but-still-solid story.
Does he need to? DS2 was absolutely not a bad game, it was a fantastic game in my book. Sure, it had a lot of flaws but i personally feel like a DS2 review would just be beating a dead horse at this point, what would even be the point? Everyone has already talked about The game.
@@tommunism8778 It's the horns. Marty rarely used horns in his music (except ODST's sax). But most early Halo music was strings, piano, vocals, rock, drums or even electronic, but almost no horns at the forefront of the compositions.
Halo 3 for me due to how revolutionary it was as well as story and soundtrack. Just that first mission dropping in the jungle was the most epic start to a game I’ve ever experienced. Just a badass game. Just a amazing series of games which I just put above all else. Can’t even keep count with how many times I’ve replayed the campaigns and still don’t get bored.
Most YouToubers: "RAID: Shadow Legends, Raycon Earbuds, Audible, CuriosityStream, etc." This madlad: bUtTeRfInGeR Edit: Commentators, I see you all felt the need to list all the common YT sponsors that I failed to mention, and that is so admirable of you. It's almost as if there are too many to mention, and I put the "etc." there for some reason.
Halo Reach was the last Halo game I ever played. I started crying when you got to the end of that segment. I miss the old bungie. Halo is my whole childhood and early teenage years. I remember so many parts and lines by heart. That's something I can't even say for my favorite movies. God, I love Halo. More than any other franchise ever. Those games were literally my life for a long time.
Forgot to mention the amazing atmosphere of CE. So many amazing bangers in the soundtrack and beautiful landscapes, it's tough to choose what has a better atmosphere between CE and ODST for me.
I feel pretty much the same way. I wonder if Infinite will follow in the footsteps of Halo CE and ODST to provide that atmosphere and sense of mystique that adorns the gameplay experience.
Coolest thing about halo 3, is that you can solve everything your way. One of the coolest moments for me was that when me and my brother had first came up against a scarab, as opposed to taking out the legs, he jumped up the ramp on a ghost and onto the scarab, then blowing it up. Meanwhile I was still dead from the fact he splattered me mid air when I almost got on there.
I remember when I played through with my brother I had to convince him that the flood carriers were named "Mr Poppy" and they were walking balloons that just wanted hugs... all so that he was brave enough to play through the rest of CE with me.
Halo CE was the game that made me play games, and was the game that has the most memorable things to me between SP, split screen, and LAN. Nothing can recreate the experience of the first Halo to me, to an almost sad extent of a lost time that was now long ago. Glad you also think so highly of it.
In my opinion, if Halo 5 didn't release, Cortana dying at the end of Halo 4 (aka. "I'm not coming with you this time John") would be one of the most emotional endings in a video game franchise ever created...
Exploring the levels of Combat Evolved was one of my greatest memories as a kid. There was something about it that no other game in the series has faithfully recreated, but it seems like Infinite is leaning heavily into the sandbox elements so I have a lot of hope that it’s comparable. To this day I’ve played the original far more than any other game in the franchise and it’s still just as enjoyable as it always was but I’ve never really known what it was that kept pulling me back in. It’s not just the environments, the AI, or the story, it’s the whole package. Every level just has this perfect trail of bread crumbs it lays out for you that makes you want to continue following it, but it allows you to do so at your own pace without ever feeling like you’re being pulled through the game on a leash. I remember walking around and making up my own stories about what had taken place there previously. Not many games have ever caused me to do that. There’s just something so satisfying about it that’s kept me coming back to it for 20 years now.
Halo CE has a lot of environmental storytelling and the story is much more about feeling, feeling the ambience and vibe. I can think of several scenarios in CE whereby the music, sound effects, random shouting from the AI's and the fighting all work together not only seamlessly but in a way which heightens them all from what they are individually. It also bleeds a ton of ominous mystery. It's an artistic masterpiece as much as it is a run and gun shootem up to me.. So same for me, I was 9 when I first played in 2001
*Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for The Act Man to do a "Why Fallout New Vegas Was So Awesome."* Also, Halo Reach is the best campaign followed by CE.
There is literally zero benefit to restricting ammo counts so much in a Halo game, where everything takes an entire clip to kill. Why is 343 so stupid?
343: "Let's restrict ammo so that players HAVE to use our cool new promethean weapons." Also 343: "Let's make half of the new promethean weapons completely suck to use."
@Grundle Dunderson The rifle had its uses, but the pistol was just useless, and the charge barely worked most of the time. Although, I saw that they changed it a little in 5.
For the record, Bungie started this first with Halo 2. Just look at how much the spare ammo reserves were cut in comparison to Halo 1. All 343i did was continue the trend that Bungie started. The only weapon that actually got an increase in ammo reserves was the Halo 3 Assault Rifle, which can carry 353 spare rounds, making 11 spare magazines, for 12 mags total counting the one currently loaded. And that's it. But otherwise, Bungie started the low ammo reserves and lower ammo counts. Compare magazine sizes in Halo CE and Halo 2 versus Halo 3 onward (ODST being an exception in a few areas).
I have to agree with CE at the top, even if some think it's repetitive. If they tweaked a few of the flaws with the absurdly difficult legendary gameplay with the release of Halo2 anniversary it could definitely have taken number one for me.
@Merciless Freak difficulty sure, level design; most of my all-time favorite Halo levels are in this game. There's not a single level I dread and in almost every other game there is at least one. *Nudge Nudge* I'm lookin at you Combat Evolve *cough cough(The Library)*
Halo CE is my pick. Played that game so many times. Can’t say the same for the others, aside from the multiplayer. The stories didn’t grab me the way the first one did. Although I do like how the second let’s you be an Elite. Used to have fun “taming” Hunters in CE and having pet flood. Also remember the first easter egg I accidentally discovered.
That’s hard to say. HALO CE has so much mystery and had such a great closing. Halo 2 has the most story and explains the covenants beliefs. It’s awesome with playing as the arbiter and a great cliffhanger ending. Halo 3 to me is the avengers of video games. Playing as chief and the arbiter with the elites is awesome. It has your tears at some moments in the game and a great closing for a trilogy.

The way halo infinite is advertising their game by snacks makes me feel like I’m in the 2000s again

And Nathan Fillion instantly improves any sci fi media.
I think the story just missed a tragic event though, the atmosphere made you feel like all of the other troops had died at first and you were the last one left.
It's the opposite of Reach in that respect.

@@malceum CE level design is repetitive and un interesting
@@malceum Halo CE is a masterpiece but trying to spin the environment repetition as good for the story is just idiotic, it’s a fantastic game but it has flaws
Understanding circumstances is good, but it doesn't make something better. Good thing is, CE is good either way.

Why you little...
I CANNOT believe he put Reach only at #4... Really makes no sense whatsoever.
Well… Infinite… is amazing, hope you’re enjoying it too
The Halo wars games are pretty good too

I'll never forget playing 343 guilty spark and the library as a 12 year old and on the verge of shitting my pants from how scary I found the flood
My sister and I never played past assault on the control room because we were too afraid of the flood
I remember when I played through with my brother I had to convince him that the flood carriers were named "Mr Poppy" and they were walking balloons that just wanted hugs... all so that he was brave enough to play through the rest of CE with me.
That’s brilliant I should try it on my sister. 20 years later and she still hasn’t finished it 😂
Halo CE was the game that made me play games, and was the game that has the most memorable things to me between SP, split screen, and LAN. Nothing can recreate the experience of the first Halo to me, to an almost sad extent of a lost time that was now long ago.
Glad you also think so highly of it.
In my opinion, if Halo 5 didn't release, Cortana dying at the end of Halo 4 (aka. "I'm not coming with you this time John") would be one of the most emotional endings in a video game franchise ever created...
yea as dull as h4 was for the most part, it still had some purpose. with 5 its all over
basically count the games backwards and you'll find a good one at the end
Pretty much.
So same for me, I was 9 when I first played in 2001
*Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for The Act Man to do a "Why Fallout New Vegas Was So Awesome."*

There is literally zero benefit to restricting ammo counts so much in a Halo game, where everything takes an entire clip to kill. Why is 343 so stupid?
343: "Let's restrict ammo so that players HAVE to use our cool new promethean weapons."
Also 343: "Let's make half of the new promethean weapons completely suck to use."
@@SentinelEnforcer i thought they were pretty fun... except the pistol thing
Poly_G it's called a magazine not a clip.
1,2,3 and reach could honestly go in any order. They're all just so good and are absolute masterpieces.
True
Personally I think 3 isn't very good compared to the rest
I personally think Halo 2 campaign is pretty bad compared to Bungie's other Halo games.

I have to agree with CE at the top, even if some think it's repetitive. If they tweaked a few of the flaws with the absurdly difficult legendary gameplay with the release of Halo2 anniversary it could definitely have taken number one for me.
"captian keyes is pretty cute too"

TBH, the fact that you gave Halo 5 story a 3/10 is a miracle. I would have given it a 0

CE is the best halo game
@G0DLYGAMER2008 For me personally halo 2 is my fav just because the legendary isn't too hard for me
@G0DLYGAMER2008 Yeah I feel ya! I've played it on SLASO and laso with a friend and have completed it in 2 hours on legendary
@Merciless Freak difficulty sure, level design; most of my all-time favorite Halo levels are in this game. There's not a single level I dread and in almost every other game there is at least one. *Nudge Nudge* I'm lookin at you Combat Evolve *cough cough(The Library)*
The story was great but the thing that hold Halo 2 back for me is the gameplay.
The quick voice swap to johnson saying "damn right I am" was an insta like for me
Bro idk why but when Gwyn’s theme played it caught me so off guard a tear fell out of my eye.
It has your tears at some moments in the game and a great closing for a trilogy.
you call that a cliffhanger??? HALO 2 was cut short bro. And Halo players on PC got fucked we had to wait till 2020 to finish the fight.
This is my second time watching this video 2 years later and as I once’s said to myself once but not aloud, I couldn’t have ranked it better myself. Man I love your channel.

Yes but your controller and key board are going to die.
I never thought i’d see a Butterfinger sponsor in my entire life but ok...
Reach was my first Halo, and I still play it, 10 years later. Seeing it coming to MCC made me happy.
i don’t know how i’ve missed your channel. I mean this is the most nicest way and no sarcasm. I’m on the spectrum and Halo 2 became my special interest when I was little and now Halo itself is such a big part of my life.
