    If you're not a singer or musically inclined, you wouldn't get it! What she did was amazing! Some people can't hit ONE note on key. Let alone two.

    The technic she does with her voice is known as polyphonic overtone singing. Some people also call it dual or double voice. I saw her do it in snarky puppy "something" and had to investigate.She could be singing with some of the top musicians and even they understand it for its greatness.

    • @cantodifonico
      @cantodifonico 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No, the technique Lalah's using is called "multyphonic voice", obtained by an "irregular vibration of the vocal folds" (...) Polyphonic overtone singing is a very different style of singing and it is usually done with normal voice and overtones controlled separately, as two independent melodies. See Wolfgang Saus here, doing Polyphonic Overtone Singing th-cam.com/video/haz6W7p8xjM/w-d-xo.html

    So cooool sounding.
    This kind of overtone singing is so different from all the other varieties of it I know of. I can do many styles but this one eludes me - once in a great while I can get it, but not consistently.

    • @susanmeertens606
      @susanmeertens606 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      If you ask me it's not overtone singing.. When that happens I do something totally different (but I still don't know what happens exactly) then when I produce overtones.

    • @cantodifonico
      @cantodifonico 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's called "multyphonic singing". Vocal folds behave irregularly, so they vibrate with two fundamentals instead of one. Lalah adds an "OO" so an overtone can be noticed on top.

  • @tonyhamilton2764
    @tonyhamilton2764 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    So I never heard of this before, I thought the video was about that last part which was amazing, I had assumed that my headphones or the audio was just fucked up or something, but that does not sound like a sound a human should be able to make, I’m convinced her voice is a portal from another world

      They use a different technique than Lalah, but if you haven't heard Tuvan throat singing, they do a lot of 2 note singing. Positioning their tongue over steady, single note, they can perform melodies. Check it out!

    Good lord. All these years later and people are still arguing over something they can't even replicate lol
    Most people are right though. It's NOT overtone singing which is done with manipulating your mouth. This is done strictly with her vocal chords.
    Either way, people are arguing over nothing. Not many people can perform EITHER technique with ease and both are mind blowing when done by someone that knows what they're doing.
    Just enjoy the vibe and the talent

    This is NOT OVERTONE singing... that is done while exhaling. Lala is INHALING to achieve the effect.... she also has no controller over the choice of harmony notes with this as well. With OVERTONE singing, you can sing one note with your vocal chords and changed the overtone note randomly

    • @MahoganyHues

    • @cantodifonico
      @cantodifonico 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overtone singers choose which overtone note they want to sing. They also make accurate melodies, not random overtone notes. About Lalah, are you sure she's inhaling? Anyway, she's doing Multyphonic singing and I'm pretty sure that it is done by exhaling. I know many singers that can do that, and they can also control the extra note. All of them do this by exhaling.

  • @jdtunes4939
    @jdtunes4939 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't want to be a debby downer, but THIS IS NOT OVERTONES. Overtones sound more like a whistle and there are limited intervals that can be manipulated. This is the division of vocal techniques called "modal voice" and "vocal fry". Basically, she's using her vocal chords to split the frequencies that would not be there otherwise. Overtone singing is manipulating mouth shape to bring out tones that already exist, but are hard to hear.
