The Prodigy I board not keeping its program - It's the 'coin' battery, just replace it. If it's more than a year old - Just replace it. The battery can't be tested when installed in a Prodigy board (long story). Just replace the battery.

100% agree, always start at the tstat, then move to the unit. You will find out if the unit is in off mode or if the tstat has power by doing so and then you can go from there. The biggest other tip for newbies is to start with simple problems and work your way up, it is usually something simple. I learned that in 16 years of doing it and waisted plenty of time when I first started not looking at the basics first. After a while you will notice things just by sounds and what you see happening and can pretty much figure the problem out. Also, anyone doing this in the heat of summer, get a cooler with water and ice in it, use a rag and put it over your neck. It can save your life. It can keep you from having a heat stroke. Stay cool and get off the roof when you need to.

Based on all the videos I have seen, I think it's time that the restaurant employees get a basic 10 minute rundown on walk-in operations and how to use the thermostats. They're ruining their equipment for no reason because folks don't know how it works.

Note: CR2032 batteries sometimes display around 3V open-circuit under no load, but will sag to almost zero when the tiniest load is applied. You cannot trust a voltage reading on them. They're cheap as chips, so if there's the slightest chance they might be a problem, better replace them.

That's not corrosion on the display board it's just flux from assembly and the loss of settings could that not be a dead battery...? As daft as it sounds I had a £10000+ oven that was locked out because the clock battery was flat... you couldn't even clear the fault to use the oven,, ? quality software design....

    • @shifter8207

Those boards are known to have that failure going back to pre install mode and you can’t get rid of it unless you replace the board and display. The board will function normally

he said he checked the cr2032 and it was ok. but I do wonder if he actually pulled it out to check it. being into computers and electronics, most of them will unload the coin cell battery making it read higher and often show full voltage from the positive side to other board grounds, when powered on, as they supply the chips directly to not run the battery down as fast.
they can fool you that way. also 3V is the nominal voltage of them, brand new and very light load they're usually closer to 3.3v and I have seen some memory backup devices start flipping out by 2.9V(no load tested).
they really need load tested for a few seconds with appropriate sized resistor. say 100 ohm for 2 seconds and voltage should maintain above roughly 2.2V, but even that's low for high pulse drain items. if the voltage tanks to 2.0 or lower the battery is pretty much fully spent, but they'll often read 2.8 to 2.9v still! it's really easiest to just replace them if even slightly suspected.
