Well I just got my SL7 and I’m at 45% battery after 9 and a half hours of usage!!! I started at 100% on launch day and dropped to 82% in exactly 3 hours. By the 5th hour I think I was at 68% and when I woke up the next day, it was still at 68%. Today I used an additional 4 and a half hours and I’m at 45% before I closed it. During my usage I had a very generous amount of things open, way more than I’ve ever had on any previous laptop. 10 - 15 tabs of chrome, settings, geek bench, copilot, task manager, Microsoft word and excel, notepad, Discord, Spotify, and most of the time some form of TH-cam audio playing in the background. I did stream and watch videos during my usage and download some things. The 120hz refresh rate is amazing and my battery was not on low power mode either. I am completely blown away by the performance.
@@liamsz it's not though. If there was a way to make the same performance with less watts then desktop CPUs would already do that. Laptop CPUs are significantly less powerful than full power desktop CPUs.
There are already plenty of windows laptops with amazing battery life. Just don't expect to use them for gaming workloads. Which is what most people do consider as a factor for a windows laptop.
My laptop from 2009 with a dead battery could get to the login screen if i was lucky if it wasn't plugged in. Now with Linux i can use it for around 5 minutes before it turns off.
@@itsarian. Yeah, I mean there is no question whether Linux is a more resource efficient OS or not. It obviously is. My point is that amazing battery life isn't just achievable with Linux. It's mostly the use-case that causes the complaints.

(some laptops have special energy saving chips who's firmware is only available to Microsoft, takes extra time to reverse engineer those, and some people don't know to install tlp on Linux laptops to save energy)
I totally get why people are mad about that, but I'mma be honest. The only reason I'd ever consider one of those Qualcomm chips is for the long battery life. And with that, there goes Apple's one advantage down the drain. I picked up a SL7 ... love it! Best Windows laptop I've owned. I don't game so I'm not concerned about the lack of gaming support. But I would expect things to change over the next months and years. Things didn't change overnight for Apple when they went ARM many years ago. Also, app emulation is AWESOME! Most of my non-Microsoft apps aren't ready for ARM, but I wouldn't know! BTW, I am coming from the Core i7 16GB RAM Surface Pro 9.

Well, in the defence of the XREAL 'not a phone, technically' device, it looks like it's intended to record 3D video natively, with the way the cameras are spaced much further apart from the norm. It does seem to lack a LIDAR type sensor or anything like that, but presumably the wide spacing will allow for good quality 3D recordings regardless. There wouldn't be any good reason for that wide spacing of seemingly identical cameras otherwise. It's certainly not a typical smartphone camera/lens array regardless.
The best use case for using your phone as a secondary PC display (imo) is for when you need a drawing tablet. I just recently did some texture work in Substance 3D Painter, and my S23 Ultra came in clutch.

That Motorola Lapdock from 10ish years ago was really ahead of it's time. There's no reason we couldn't put a battery, keyboard, webcam and display with a slot to put a phone into at this point. Think Framework replacable motherboard, but you just replace the phone you plug into the slot on the back every few years.

I plug in my phone to the monitor and it charges while backing up to a USB SSD, has a webcam for calls and a clear mic and banger audio provided by speakers. I can run 6 different apps at once, but I usually pay my bills and browse the web all with DeX. If Google made ChromeOS spin up when connected to a USB-C dock or display, that would literally be the best thing ever.
The issue was not that, the issue was Samsung using shitty soldered memories while using the stronger processor variant. Apple did the same with M2 on the smaller SSD and that was already a bottleneck.

Google Samsung and Apple already have built in offline speech recognition. There are plenty of models you can download for that.
