Doesn't stop even all those researchers from falling for it. At the end they'll just call their latest chatbot AGI, it's not like most people understand enough to know that's horseshit.
AGI isn't as far away as pessimists think, but not as close as optimists think. But it doesn't even take AGI to be crazy transformative to the world. I think deep mind is going to see big returns on their research sooner than openai. They've already made technologies no human can do, like protein prediction and a protein designer, and they're working on math research ai. And the inventors of neural networks have gotten a nobel prize in physics because it caused a huge amount of progress in physics research
"AGI" is next to meaningless term to begin with. One can move the goalposts of it "not being general enough" for as long as there is something in the universe it still can kinda suck at. Each conversation about "AGI" needs to first establish what the expectations are here. Mathematical perfection or just being as good or marginally better than an average human with most tasks? Latter being so vaguely defined that it isn't that useful either as a metric.
@@ayoCC The scientists who won the nobel prize in chemistry and physics worked 40yrs studying the problem, working with computer scientists and developing tools to solve the problem at hand. Machine learning, or big data, neural networks or ai, whatever the current name is, these are simply tools. The best most useful of these "ai" tools are highly specific and work very closely with people who have real "i" AGI requires a completely different way of thinking and computer use compared to the brute force methods of openai. My theory is that in the prolonged period of low interest rates investors were desperate to dump their money into anything that looks new to get a return, those with the most eye catching claims got the cash and now we're here. Its a shame they didn't put money into something useful like fusion energy or new battery tech but those are pretty mundane when the counter-offer is to invest in a (tech) god

It sucks that content creators have to essentially pay TH-cam back from adsense the premium subscription in order to not go completely mad with the shear volume of adverts on YT, and even then we are subjected to other content creators shilling affiliate garbage in-stream, or their own products like screwdrivers, hoodies and all the rest of it rammed down our throats despite paying for the service which is supposed to remove advertising, and of course the arrogance of creators pushing overpriced screwdrivers, backpacks, hoodies, underwear. And of course you all want us to click link to "sponsors" throughout. It really is out of control, the bigger channels become, the more garbage they are shilling in-stream., and the greater the degradation of the viewing experience to the point of temporarily or permanently unsubscribing from said channels.

I ONLY want no ads :( I don't care about anything else. There's NO WAY TH-cam is making more than $5-10/mo (which, honestly, I'd be willing to pay) through ads with me. And I consider myself to be on youtube more than the average person.
TH-cam pays like $3-5 per 1000 ad views to creators. So you'd need to be watching thousands of ads a month to go over $5. And that's the worst case, I'm pretty sure youtube takes a smaller cut than the creator so it would be even more views.

I hate to say it but Anthropic needs to be the first to get to "AGI." Their CEO was one of the first to see how much of a snake Altman was, and is actually one of the scientists who developed the current tech.
TH-cam should be rolling out AV1 encode for more or good quality VP9 for medium sized channel ( maybe small as well). Because a lot of video quality lately looks blurry even though it has 1080p. TH-cam expect us to pay premium for the enhanced high bitrate video. Good quality encoding like AV1 would reduce medium to small not upload the video in 8k to force TH-cam to put AV1 in their videos.

Ads at on the sidebar and that was it. On my tablet where I can't block their nonsense, I have never once watched an advert and thought, oh that looks good. If anything, intrusive adverts just put me off.
The change to X's block functionality is just common sense. It does not hinder in any way the blocker´s privacy because you could always just have another account/no account to view those posts. If they are worried about the privacy of their posts they should secure their account so only the followers they have verified have access to them. I mean, Elon is not right about a lot of things, but this in particular...
The fact they want to charge to play app audio in the background is absolutely ridiculous. Same that they want to charge to make a video queue on mobile. All of this is free on the desktop site.
There needs to be a law that, for businesses making over a million dollars in revenue a year, they need to offer an ad free experience for no more than either $50 a year or twice the median profit per customer per year (whichever is greater, though it would be $50) Companies are so desperate to get a couple bucks in ad revenue that they ruin the experience for users and try to charge rediculous amounts to unruin it.

The actual test is "would we get away with putting some ads into the full premium plan in the future?"
If this Premium Lite becomes successful enough YT will simply remove the plan again and put the same amount of ads into the full premium one because they know it won't upset people too much.
TH-cam keeps pushing these ADS on us is crazy...
And it's nothing related to our watching contents. Completely irrelevant ads.
If your parent company is the biggest ad company on earth, they'll find a way to put more ads in your already mostly ad videos
adblock :3
And they're already profitable. It's just milking everything out. Not that it's legally, financially or ethically wrong, but it's pissing people off and they don't care. They can get away with it and it earns them money.
This is the definition of a monopoly. Switching cost is too high, network effect is too strong.
In 10 years (to be safe), there will be another company that becomes a real threat.
What's crazy is the thought that an English teacher ever passed you.
The enshitification of TH-cam continues.
Okay just gotta say the irony of us sponsoring this video is pretty damn good

I wish OpenAi was forced to stay a nonprofit. But you know with Microsoft forcing $14 billion USD in them that's not going to happen now is it
OpenAI is lose-lose
Microsoft has access to all their tech (they are required to share everything until AGI), and they owe Microsoft lots of money (btw, the Microsoft investment was mostly in compute credits)
OpenAI is looking for outside investors to get cash they desperately need, but honestly, who is going to invest in them? It basically completely belongs to Microsoft.
With the amount of power that comes with advanced AI systems, it was never going to stay non-profit unfortunately.
Saltman is the new super villian in training under Gates.
Anyways, The nonprofit stopped as soon as they realized how much profit there was to be made .. they are only human after all and power corrupts.
All hail Firefox, ad free TH-cam and internet with uBlock origin!
Yep. For now, at least.

Yep. Even able to run Firefox, Ublock Origin, and sponsor block on my Android phone. Ad Free and background play (via pressing play on a bluetooth earbud).
@@DNS_David Using an un-updated browser for the sake of your privacy may not be the win you think it is.
Why would I pay for wasting my time? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Non-interruptive ads do not exist, TH-cam. You know what those ads would be? Bad. They would be bad at being ads.
There were days of just a small banner on the bottom. It would go away after some time and you could force close it.
UPD. Some of them were interesting to me and because they weren't force fed i clicked some. I was too young and broke to buy something but i registered on some games that was advertised.
If I’m buying a *robotic arm,* it’s going to be doing a *different job* than cooking… those showers and toilets ain’t cleaning themselves! 😂
TH-cam keeps pushing us to go use a modded app without ads
What i want to know is who is paying for these ads!
I never in my entire 40 years pf existance bought something because showed up on an internet ad
I once bought a Mountain Dew kickstart because I thought the ad was hilarious. This was over 10 years ago. So I guess an ad got like $2 tops out of me
22 euros for prime. Jesus christ. TH-cam's been getting out of hand with the amount of ads lately on the free version and that's probably no coincedence.
TH-cam shows me ads on premium and when I emailed them they tried telling me the ads are features. They are ads telling me about features on youtube premium but I know they are meant to keep me paying for youtube premium
AGI ain't happening anytime soon. LLMs aren't even close to AGI
It is most appropriate that the computer scientists shared the prize this time. It is though super annoying to see it reported in every media that "ai" figured it out.
Machine learning, or big data, neural networks or ai, whatever the current name is, these are simply tools. The best most useful of these "ai" tools are highly specific and work very closely with people who have real "i"
AGI requires a completely different way of thinking and computer use compared to the brute force methods of openai.
@@ayoCC yes, but AGI would also require that AI be able to cook a soufflé that tasted delicious and teach history without a hint of bias. It's going to be a long, long time until then, if ever
"You will see ads on music and shorts."
WHAT THE F*CK TH-cam. ADS ON SHORTFORM CONTENT?
I guess TH-cam is REALLY feeling the burn in giving into the tiktok brianrot but making it ad free in the first place.
Yes, TH-cam has ads on shorts. Back when I watched them, they were baked into the feed and you could just scroll to skip. Idk if anything has changed since then
What's crazy is they think it's a vital service, and those who need it will pay for! 😂😂
Bullshit. . . If google want to nickel and dime me this much, I'LL JUST STRAIGHT UP STOP PAYING PREMIUM ALTOGETHER.

Sigh... Paying INSTEAD of seeing ads makes sense. Paying, and still having to tolerate ads.... Doesn't.
Riley there's a burned in pixel on your OLED shirt
Nah it's a stuck pixel
The pixel of color on his shirt was bothering me so much lol

Leave it to Google to piss on you without the courtesy to call it rain.
With that terabit download speed you can now exceed your capped data plan and rack up $20,000 in charges in only a few short seconds! What a time to be alive. Did the math:
Overage: 15 TB - 20 GB = 14,980 GB ≈ 15,339,520 MB
Cost: 15,339,520 MB * $0.02/MB = $306,790.40 @ 2 cents/MB
Thats for 20 seconds of a speed test using 1Tb/s

Google-TH-cam trying to do a Murdoch. Pay monthly but with lots of ads.
I ONLY want no ads :( I don't care about anything else.
There's NO WAY TH-cam is making more than $5-10/mo (which, honestly, I'd be willing to pay) through ads with me. And I consider myself to be on youtube more than the average person.
Both of those facts have long irritated me. I would pay what advertisers pay, not possibly a hundred times more.
TH-cam pays like $3-5 per 1000 ad views to creators. So you'd need to be watching thousands of ads a month to go over $5. And that's the worst case, I'm pretty sure youtube takes a smaller cut than the creator so it would be even more views.

I see it as inevitable TH-cam will become a closed pay only service like Hulu or Netflix, in which case I'd just leave. Between the censorship, the mandatory use of an adblocker to even have a decent experience it would never be worth paying for it.
And 6G sounds awesome....if you were funneling ISP traffic. What on Earth would people use this for with their phones?
I hate to say it but Anthropic needs to be the first to get to "AGI." Their CEO was one of the first to see how much of a snake Altman was, and is actually one of the scientists who developed the current tech.
The sarcasm is strong with this one and I love it. Keep it up and will gain a sub :)
Spoiler alert: "enhanced" bitrate is just AV1. TH-cam is literally gatekeep encoding now.

This ongoing AI drama between Microsoft and OpenAI is a perfect example of the tech world’s frenemies dynamic. They’re both racing to the AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) finish line, but there’s this strange tension, like they know one day their partnership will implode. That AGI clause where Microsoft loses access to OpenAI’s models if they reach the holy grail first? It’s like the digital version of a breakup prenup. seems fine to me. the blocked user can no longer interact with the blocker. if you want to see the page of someone currently that blocks you all you have to do is log out or sign into a different account, not rocket science. if youre posting things of such a sensitive nature that you need to block someone from viewing it, you should probably be setting your account private in the first place.

Or be smart and block the domains, on everything, not just the browser.
As for the browser itself, Vivaldi is more up to date and customizable, it's also developed by the old Opera team, so they actually know how to make a browser.
Still a positive no - they either drop the price right down, or adblock all the way. Google started to wreck this service years ago, anybody else remember how TH-cam used to be many years ago? Ads at on the sidebar and that was it. On my tablet where I can't block their nonsense, I have never once watched an advert and thought, oh that looks good. If anything, intrusive adverts just put me off.
The change to X's block functionality is just common sense. It does not hinder in any way the blocker´s privacy because you could always just have another account/no account to view those posts. If they are worried about the privacy of their posts they should secure their account so only the followers they have verified have access to them. I mean, Elon is not right about a lot of things, but this in particular...
I remember when asmongold was blocked and he immediately opened up an incognito tab on stream and viewed the post anyway
This way someone can't call you a slur and immediately block you to avoid being reported. It's really the only difference.

There needs to be a law that, for businesses making over a million dollars in revenue a year, they need to offer an ad free experience for no more than either $50 a year or twice the median profit per customer per year (whichever is greater, though it would be $50)
Companies are so desperate to get a couple bucks in ad revenue that they ruin the experience for users and try to charge rediculous amounts to unruin it.
3:40 People are freaking out over this change but it doesn't actually change anything, a person you blocked could still see your public posts by making another account.
