I live in Guayaquil, Ecuador. This was insane to watch, as sson as this happened the president declared them terrorists and people lost their minds, they started to buy food in mass in case it becomes dangerous to go outside, all stores closed before might. Just yesterday, January 9, several policemen were killed, two on the streets and seems like two more inside prisons. A singer died from a gunshot to the head in Guayaquil in the Ceibos neighborhood, a stray bullet. And a high school girl was wounded by a bullet outside her school. Just this night, 3 people were burned to death inside their car. What happened at TC televisión was just the most notorious event. I live in Guayaquil, and as I said this before, crime was usual. But this level of violence is just too much, I don't have the words to explain how horrible this is. Bring international awareness about this, don't support drugs, these are the results of narcos power. Ecuador needs help, at the very least we need help with the development of strategies against this gangs.

So yes masks prevent saliva droplets from passing through, but not air (and therefore airborne viruses - such as covid) Unless you have a specialized filtering type of mask that can capture such small particles but common masks such as the cloth type can’t do that.
