    I didn't think there could be a polite way of shoving someone but the Japanese came up with a way. White gloves, and gentle nudges with impeccable posture. Beats the guy at the bar who shoves you for talking to his girl.

      ⁠@@Englishsea24have you been to Japan? They have train coming every 2-3 minutes and they maximized the carriages as well during rush hour. Every train is the same….super packed. I was in Japan 3 months ago. Made a mistake by taking the train during morning rush hour…I waited and skipped because I saw the train was packed. Guess what!?! Every train after that was the same. I skipped 5, then realized they were all the same so I just decided to get on the next one and squished myself in. I have never felt so close to many random strangers. I couldn’t even move my arm after the door was closed. It’s crazy…

    I remember when I was 12 I was living in Japan and my uncle was being pushed into the train because it was packed and he's a tall dude and the way they pushed him was like punching his nuts in, they literally where pushing his nuts to fit him into the train and his face showed his pain.

      Sometimes bigger tunnels means demolishing the entire subway and building another one on top of it.

    People can actually suffocate to death in such situations. There were times when I didn’t have to hold my bags on the subway in Korea because everything was packed and things stayed in the air. Koreans stopped trying to get on that kind of busy train after witnessing last year’s stampede in Itaewon. I can’t believe it’s one of their jobs to push people in in Tokyo.

      I don't know, I spent two weeks in Japan, from that one week in Tokyo and never experienced anything even in the near like this. Trains on busy lines come quite often. But it can be that some lines at rush hour are like this...

    In Sydney, Australia, they use double-decker trains to increase capacity without having to extend the trains and platforms. I think more dense cities should use trains like these. Compare this to the difference between a double-decker bus and an articulated bus.

    Wouldn't be a problem if Japan just fully upgraded their rail network to standard gauge. You'd have wider passenger trains that way.

      We need what in the USA? Trains with fewer cars on them so our people can have full body contact on all sides with multiple strangers in a standing only train on their way to and from work?
