Karl Jaspers: "What is philosophy?" and "The Origins of Philosophy"

- We review here the first two chapters of the work Einführung in die Philosophie, (Introduction to Philosophy), in its original in German, which was translated into Spanish as Philosophy from the point of view of existence.
Before devoting himself to philosophy, Jaspers practiced as a medical doctor and psychiatrist, while also serving as a professor of psychology at the University of Heidelberg. He always made individual existence the center of his thought, which, in general, was located within the existentialist current, although he himself did not approve of that name and preferred, in any case, to speak of a "philosophy of existence". .
This current focuses on the understanding of existence and the fundamental problems related to the human condition, such as freedom, responsibility, transcendence and the meaning of life, addressing issues such as anguish, guilt and moral conscience.
The first two chapters of the book, that is, "What is philosophy?" and "The origins of philosophy", have already become a classic of the first approaches that can be made to this discipline, so we go through them in detail in this video in order to start our approach to it.
