    It was lovely to hear the Earl and Countess of Sandwich telling of the history of objects; it shows the family relationships to the things - not just decoration, but historical items with a link to the living generations.

    They seem like such sweet people. I would be a nervous wreck thinking about meeting an earl or duke or whatever but after seeing them in the videos on this channel they seem very approachable and the same as everyday people. But what a life and a legacy they have to live, I am sure it can get overwhelming.

    • @7ofthem
      @7ofthem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why ? They are just people with a fortunate accident of birth that gives them a ‘title’ , but they are exactly the same as you or I .
      I like them both , I’d have a cup of tea with them no problem .

    Such a plesant walk through your home at Mapperton with the Earl and Countess,your "Mater and Pater". They move through their recollecting with a great love ,respect and admiration for the things they stewart . They travel in the different era's in the timeship of their shared memory of stories told and retold down through the age's.Only their unique upbringing and background could produce this video gold. Memory is the place where our past days lie. When they talk about Ann Boyle or Charles the Fifth ,its like the characters have stepped out of the room. They slip into speaking Latin and misplaces letters on the China with the love and humour only they could have. You just can't write this stuff. Just roll the camera and stay in focus. They've got it.

    Hearing about and seeing centuries of the history of the family, Britain, and truly the world, from the earl and countess as they invite us into their lives and their home is such a gift to those of us who are interested in and value all who came before us. Their personalities, finishing each other’s sentences, and their wry humor really flavor the story! Having heard about some of the paintings, house details and events a few times now, the house will seem very familiar if I ever get to visit in person.

    I fall in love with the Countess every time I watch her! Her views on French and English clocks are most enlightening! The portrait of the lady on Alberta's right is incredible! It dates to the 1860s and her name was Lady Agneta Harriet Yorke and she was apparently one of Queen Alexandra's bridesmaids!

    • @DH007-w2d
      @DH007-w2d 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Non, non, non. There is absolutly nothing wrong with French clocks. They might not work properly abroad as they get home sick, that's it. And I ain't sure English people know how to make them work, at all... C'est aussi simple que ça...

    Such a stunningly beautiful house, each room a treasure in its own right. The classical Staircase Hall with carved handrail, panelling & carved details, fine furniture and historic family portraits is so charming. The drawing room is also a gem ~ I love the marriage between historical objects and practical comfort, with all of those subtle toning colours in furniture tapestries and paintings. What the astute Countess had to say about the difference between English and French clocks made me smile so much ~ I wholeheartedly agree with her conclusion!

Do they have complete inventories made over the years to reference from so if the run across something that they have no idea where if came from they can find out? Hi. I was reading about the Montagu family, and I saw that the family seat was originally Hinchingbrooke House. I understand that this house was sold and the family seat became Mapperton House which had only been in the family's possession for less than 100 years. Is it possible to share any information about that decision?

    If Mapperton's council or committee, gave me nice clean, lodgings, 2 meals per diem, a light late noon snack with tea, I'd clean the ship for nothing using thin natural brushes and compressed air (set at lowest pressure). They would have to also provide business class flight round trip from the US. If that is less than what they would pay a professional conservationists, it might be worth it to them. I could work 16 hours sitting on the floor with a pillow.

    It's not a house. It's a museum. A word about Hortense Mancini, Duchesse de Mazarin, sister of Marie. They were said to have been loved by Louis XIV (whatever love means)... But too down stairs girls to be suitable for a crown. Loulou got upset, had some kind of diplomatic flu but the Cardinal de Mazarin insisted the King had to think like one, so He married Marie-Thérèse d'Espagne, instead.
