I had a 78 nova with a way too low tranny pan. I hit it on a rock in the woods more than once and wished I had a kubelwagen for what I was doing. Those things had weird axl gears for clearance, sturdy skid plates, and locking differentials! I bet your ev conversions have better weight distribution and speed than the oe vw. So cool
The gear reduction boxes used on the early VW Bus were not for ground clearance but to add torque at the rear wheels since the motor was grossly under powered.
@@ev4uI was referring to the gears on the end of the kubelwagon axl but that makes a lot of sense. I heard that they were designed to putz along at under 5mp. Gearing way down is not a preferable solution imo, like those cheap chinese evs that have such low top speeds.
