I got one of these for my cat today. Made the mistake of laying on it myself and was headed back to the store within an hour to get a couple for myself. I am in love with these cooling mats.
LOL. In the very hot weather last year i was tempted to kick the dogs off. We found that a thin sheet over the mats keeps the dogs on them all night.

You can see the pup resting in comfort. Body on the covering. Elbow directly on the gel mat. Getting cool like us.
My shih tzu did not like it so I tried it and it really works. Cool for me. I got 2 big ones for myself and my son to use. BTW, we live in the tropics so summers are very warm, like it's 37 now
Hi Fred I bought two of these for my two Labs & they love them. Being Black thy do suffer with the heat. Well worth the money..

I wouldn't mind a big one for my bed, I overheat at night. I think if it were filled with water it would be cooler, but might not stay cool. I can see advantages and disadvantages to it. Some dogs will use it others will go no where near it.
You know Bob we said the same on hot nights. Have a mini heat wave coming in later in the week so we might kick the dogs off :-)

I have outside cats. Can’t bring them in because I’m allergic! Ugh! But we here in Arkansas are going through a heatwave and they are suffering. I will try this product. Might even stick it in the freezer for 30 minutes prior to setting it outside in the heat wave.

Certainly cooler only issue might be the fact that the gel is quite firm for a pillow.
They are fine unless you live in a very dry climate....the gel dries out after about a year and ceases to work.

Do they stay cool? My feet get really uncomfortable at night sometimes and putting them on something cool solves the problem but I want to make sure this would stay cool a bit after I put my feet on them.
Yes they do. I really could not lay on one of these mats without feeling cold.

Yes it should if it is stored somewhere cool before going out. It does make you feel quite cold though.

how does it work? I can't find it anywhere, some say it acts like a heatsink, some say the gel has a lot of heat storage, wtf?
It just contains a gel which absorbs heat. Eventually it equals body temp but takes a fair while.

Yes it really does feel cooler. My dogs love them in hot weather. since getting these we have bought another two for downstairs.
Its supposed to work after your dog or you lay down on it by absorbing heat. OP is a dumdum for checking temp like that.
So… how does the mat work?
The dense no toxic gel slowly absorbs body heat. Think of sticking your hand in a bucket of water. It cools till the water becomes body temp which would take hours.
