      A lot is instinct but a lot is just seeing where the ball is going next. He times dribbles ( once the ball leaves his hand on the bounce he has no control of it that’s when you attack) Gary def taught him a lot. Kobe and KG said they leveled up their defense of a few tips from you. He gone give his son all the game

      You know who his father is right? His dad is the greatest defensive PG in NBA history....and he's taught him since he was a kid...a couple things you may not be able to teach but most of it is.

    Its not a random reach. He knows when to reach regardless of when he is at. I see a couple poke from when he is entirely trailing and still gets the steal. I truly believe there is a method for that and he mastered it and applying it everytime hes on the floor.

    • @dontkillme5332
      @dontkillme5332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      He goes for the third dribble when he can read the rythmn.
      He goes for the slow pass.
      His eyes is fixed on the ball while his feet and hand is ready to react.
      He knows when and where. This is not pure talent alone but with constant practice.

    • @sambalandra8293
      @sambalandra8293 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Lower your body for a better center of gravity. Wait for the ball when it is in the air between the floor and the hands of the player. Synchronize your footwork with the opposing player. That's it.

    • @oldfrend
      @oldfrend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NBA ball handlers get too cocky and don't protect their dribble well enough cuz they're not used to good hands defenders like GP2 or caruso stealing their wallets. gotta shorten your dribble when those dudes are within arms reach. a great hands defender can strike like a snake with either hand and the ball will be gone before they can blink. source: i do this shit all the time to dudes who let me get too close and don't protect well enough.

    • @marka1000
      @marka1000 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      players are way faster on possession now than back in the 90s because every team play small ball. It's almost impossible having this much stamina on D today because more often than not, they're just gonna score on your head. The offensive skillset of teams nowadays are so much that it's just way too much for the D to catch up. You'd need discipline, stamina, speed and the other opponents playbook just to get the basics. His defensive court vision is just chef's kiss tbh.

He doesn't gamble, he actually is there when he steals the ball, either in the passing lane or draped all over someone. Unlike his father, he doesn't have to rough up or mug the other players for the possession, he is a much smoother version. Imagine a shorter version of Scottie Pippen on D.

    I was hesitant when GSW signed his 10 day contract last season. He did show flashes of defense, but it was never enough for me. And then they picked GP2 over bradley, and i was confused thinking they would pick an legit NBA experienced player over a G league player. But boy i don't know sht bout bball 😂😂😂 Gsw really have good eyes 👀

    Hated seeing him go. It wasn't just his defense which is amazing. He set amazing screens, new when to roll and when to get out of the way, hit his corner 3's, could handle the ball, finish at the rim, etc. I'm glad he go paid bu wish Golden State paid him instead of Green and Donte.

    The question is whether Steve Kerr will allow this fearless magician of a defender more minutes to lock down the offense initiators on the teams the Warriors will meet in the playoffs. This is the million dollar question for the man who is yet to figure out the best lineup to play against other teams! He is still experimenting, even this late in the season!

    Dude times his swipes perfectly. He knows exactly when to reach, and when he does, the distance, positioning, and timing are all perfect. He anticipates a lot of passes as well. I was a big fan of Gary "The Glove" Payton, so I hope Myers pays this GP2 well next season so he could have a long career like his pops.
