    I worked for online publishing for years so I hope I can give a perspective on beauty lists in general: they're rigged. Part of how publications can stay afloat is knowing how much a product can give you, it's basically a mutual agreement between the online publisher and the brand. Brands would give free products, factory tours, and exclusive interviews with key staff for a spot in a beauty list. If a publisher can make an article that has exclusive content about a brand, then they're obligated to give them an award or perk. Exclusive stories means more readers, and more readers means more money. Allure is one of the biggest out there right now. Any beauty brand will try to find a way to get that stamp of approval.
    The only thing I would also add is that this isn't a new thing, this was already practiced by old school magazines for decades. It's just more noticeable on the online space with how frequent they make content vs. publishing monthly. Online publishers can task a single writer with 8 articles a day(!!!!!) so the need to churn out content has been higher than ever. It's sad and toxic, which is why I left.

      oh wow, thank you for sharing your insight! makes alot of sense for a lot of these products!

      Definitely! It’s unfortunate because some products that deserve to be mentioned as the best don’t get recognized, especially from smaller brands. Allie Glines recently did a video on what she thinks should have won best of beauty.

    It seems to me that all the magazine makeup articles and lists are so behind compared to TH-cam.

      For people who must be constantly getting new products and PR emails, they're way behind on makeup trends. Even for "natural" makeup. I feel like they're better with skincare and cosmetic procedures for some reason.

    These products are absolutely paid partnerships with allure, no question about it (most of them that is). Same with any magazine that has a similar list

    Omg I 100% remember you being part of the NYX Face Awards and I remember being dilligent about voting for you too!! I think you did so well and I always looked forwards to what was coming next. Makes me miss a lot of your very extravagant, face paint, creative looks!
    Also I LOVE the ordinary skincare. I find that with the moisturizer, I like to layer it over hydrating toners to lock in the hydration. I sometimes even like "water-down" the moisturizer with my toners since it is so thick, but it does a great job at sealing it all in. I also enjoy their retinols, amino acid, niacinamide, and salicylic acid (both the solution and the anhydrous). A lot of people enjoy the lactic acid as well! If you have the glycolic acid toner, you can also use that in many other ways like deodorant, scalpe treatment, etc.

    Interesting how they don’t have to “disclose” sponsorships like YT creators do. They’re all ads, though, like they’ve always been.

      I think it’s from the platform. Influencers are popular in part because they try to make themselves relatable, they generally run on a platform of honesty and trust with their audience. I…don’t think these big publishers like Allure ever make that promise or even try to, because it closes doors to deals. But a lot of influencers value their viewer relationship more cus it’s much harder to spring back from getting canceled when you’re basically just one person.

    I've had sneaking suspicions for a few years and I know you're also not the only one to kind of raise eyebrows! Like they're always the same products, and always kind of outdated, or not the most popular or trendy...like where are they getting the "best" definition from?😂
    Also I remember you in those NYX awards! How time flies omg...I was in my first year of uni back then and now it's been five years which is half a decade??? totally relate on what you said about NYX - they used to be where I'm from too and then left

    I would try layering a tiny bit of the spf powder with a light coating of SPF setting mist. I definitely prefer SPF powders applied out of a sifter jar with a travel Kabuki, so I can control the amount of powder as much as I want and also wash the brush as much as I want. . I like the setting mist from Milani. The combination of the two leaves my oily skin looking naturally dewy.

    I feel like the beauty blender sponge especially is overrated. I was never convinced to buy it, and have always stuck to my Real Techniques sponge and then my Colourpop ones. They're much more convenient when it comes to renewing your sponges in my opinion, and their shapes are much better and you can choose whichever one you like. The complexion sponge and the tear drop one (forgot the name) are my absolute favorite!

    Have you ever tried Sun Cushions for SPF touch-up? It's a Korean Skincare type product. It's basically sunscreen in a cushion foundation packaging and you can just pat the sunscreen over makeup.
    I would also just like to say, it's probably not the best to DIY it because I've hear the active ingredients in sunscreens (e.g. preservatives and the actual UV filters) may interact with the plastic in the new cushion foundation packaging basically making it either not work, instable or full of microorganism. Obviously cosmetic companies have already thought of this so it's safer to use theirs.
    Alternatively, you could just apply sunscreen on a makeup sponge/pad and pat it on your face

      @monoko1992 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is the quantity of sunscreen you are applying. That is why ypur cushion foundation with spf is not a replacement for sunscreen is just am extra protection you should use a good amount of sunscreen anyways.

    • @lunalee1320
      @lunalee1320 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@monoko1992 No, I mean it's sunscreen in a cushion foundation PACKAGING (instead of the foundation). There's no colouring, just sunscreen but dispensed using the cushion

    • @clairelim7109
      @clairelim7109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      even if the cushion is 100% sunscreen, if you’re using it as a cushion (i.e. applying a thin light layer) that’s not enough sunscreen to properly protect your skin

    I thought it was really interesting that you thought the Ordinary moisturizer was on the heavier side. Personally I like it so much because I find it to be much lighter that the majority of other moisturizers I’ve used. My skin and me HATE like heavy greasy leaning products, so even tho that one goes on a little thicker and heavier I find the gel consistency to become very light weight almost as soon as I start applying. (Obviously no diss or anything I just thought it was fascinating that we had such different tale always from the same product😊)

    Someone should invent sunscreen wipes. One wipe is spf 35 no white cast guarantee. They come in a little case perfect for your purse . You take the wipe, put it directly on your face, rub it in. Boom much simpler.

    • @clow199x
      @clow199x 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      sunscreen wipes sound like they would be creating a lot of waste though. i once saw someone recommend putting sunscreen into a cushion compact, which i thought was really smart and makes it convenient to reapply.

    The scandalous Chanel xmas calendar also won a major design award. Agree that it's likely political, like many other mainstream competitions. Industry generally know each other

    I find it so bizarre that they have a laundry item on a list for beauty. Just seems like another way to advertise more. I haven’t really paid attention to Allure BIB since they nominated that garbage St. Ives scrub.
