15:40 Tip: if you want to reduce energy loss, sound transfer, and the potential for insects to crawl into your house, spray foam or caulk those gaps between the drywall and the pipes. It takes just a minute and makes a huge difference.

    Several comments.
    1. Teflon Tape is a thread sealant, teflon paste is a thread sealant and lubricant.
    2. Definitely use a drain w/out overflow when possible. (Low use guest bath probably fine)
    3. Drilling from both sides 👍. I would have used hole saws for a cleaner hole and no chance of splitting. Self feed is a rough carpentry tool.
    4. That must have been a well made drain assembly to tighten that hard.. Plastic popup assemblies will self destruct with a fraction of the force you applied. Try using 100% silicone caulk as your gasket on top. You can also use a small bead on the bottom where the gasket meets the sink and where the gasket meets the threads. This allows you to use an appropriate amount of torque and still achieve a. Seal that lasts as long as the drain assembly. Professional drain assemblies mostly do not cone with foam gaskets.
    5. Thanks for bringing these videos to the common man/woman. Thoughtful and informative.

5:39 I suggest putting sealant or Teflon tap on the thread for locking nut. The reason is that, the washer gasket is not ideal to seal the grooves for thread. The water could get through the overflow hole of the drain and leak into grooves between gasket and thread. When the rubber aging, it is getting worse. Many contractors does not know this trick, including my friend who installed the sink with water leaking at thread but could not figured it out. Later he seals all thread for those sink drains.

Hey Jeff, love the channel. I'm in a condo built in the '30s and thinking of turning the kitchen into a bathroom. Can you think of any obvious reason why that wouldn't work? Can I probably just run the drains for the toilet, shower, and sink down the soil stack that's currently just used by the kitchen sink and the dishwasher?
I'm not going to try to DIY this level of plumbing but want to know if what I'm considering makes any sense at all.

@renovision Jeff, love your channel! But curious why you chose to use an overflow drain in this install, instead of one of the many available non-overflow drains? Undrainable water is accumulating above that rubber washer. It may not leak, but might it start to stink in a few months/years?

What do you think of the blue or yellow caulk tip plugs that the big box stores sell for like $2 and market as a caulking saver?

Great video. I am trying to replace an entire bathroom cabinet with sink and counter attached but only finding them in 48" x 22" but the size of my current one is 45" so I will this be a problem with the plumbing even though cabinet will fit but will plumbing be misaligned or is there another measurement I should take before purchasing? TY!

Can you use teflon tape on the hot and cold valves with the rubber gaskets?

Just two lads sitting around a toilet, and then one makes that face 33:44.
Any chance when you're done with that room you could do a video about why you picked out those fixtures, chose to do the custom counter, the heated floor etc for a guest bathroom?

Would have loved more info on the drain pipe configuration ~22:22. I need to do this due to an offset drain versus vanity structure & a plumber acted like I was an idiot but offered no solutions. I figured something out, but wish I’d seen this first!
