I was diagnosed with Parkinson's about ten years ago & I to started isolating my self to avoid the stares. After having DBS in February I feel great & I'd like to thank all the doctors at the University of Maryland medical Center in Baltimore Md
This is incredibly good news! And I need to comment that there’s a great interview on TH-cam of a PD patient, an older guy who had advanced problems bc of the disease, after many years, he was declining a lot. So he went on a keto diet, as an experiment, and found that he got better and better, and better, reversing the neurological damage, and is now 90 or 95% improved!!!. It’s very very hopeful news! And I hope every person who is suffering w/ PD finds the story on YT.
The surgery can now be done while asleep. Both electrodes can be implanted in a single surgery in cases and sometimes even the generator. Also it is being done much earlier in the persons progression to give better benefits.
I'm house bound also for the past 4 years was diagnosed 20 years ago, I fight every day, but I'm getting worse and no one understands what it's like, I'm gonna look into these things with my Neurologist 😊
For those of you wondering. Del Maxson died January 25, 2015 at the age of 68 from a “lengthy illness”. There’s no mention of Parkinson’s in his obituary. Also the family “request memorial donations be made to a canine rescue and humane society.” Maybe I’m just reading too much into this but if this was such a great thing for him and his family don’t you think it would have been mentioned in the obituary and donations be made to medical “stuff”? Again I’m probably reading too much into it…. This is just sad though. I really want to believe this worked for him.
Lost my mom 6 years ago to a 21 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. The Dyskinesia was brutal as were the Requip and Carbo/Levo. The problem with the surgery is that it’s a bandage and doesn’t cure the disease and eventually the issues come back. The memory goes even with the surgery. A temporary fix.
This interview was filmed over 20 years ago, clearly this treatment didn't work too well over time. Many of the people in this comment section need to start reading the descriptions on videos.
Yeah my dad got this treatment and hes gotten a lot worse, his movement is a lot better but he can’t function the same, mentally he is much worse and it’s really sad to see, I wish he never got the surgery.
My husband was misdiagnosed with PD. He has essential tremors. My advice is simple: Get a second opinion or even a third or fourth one. My husband was on carbadopa/levodopa for over a year all the while never actually having PD. The second neurologist we found ordered a DatScan which confirmed that he had been misdiagnosed. Upon further research I discovered that the percentage of misdiagnosis of PD is 30%!!
I really appreciated the quality of Education and mastery gained by these doctor during there acedmics now finally paid off....so moral of the story's says that God bless each and everyone with sound mind so use this brain to gain mastery in you education and see what education will going to reward you after the example is infront in a form of those brilliant surgeon.
Absolutely BRILLIANT, oh my goodness ! Such a gateway of HOPE !!!! Ode to the science and those able to im0lament it. Tremendous GRATITUDE to say the least.
The patient I am looking after has undergone Parkinson's surgery but his condition is still the same as before the surgery, he has difficulty sleeping, has difficulty urinating, has difficulty defecating and his body is unstable.
Here in Houston, eight years ago I made a new friend with Parkinson's as I would drive her to doctors appointments and Parkinson's seminars and events. Carolyn had a DBS when I first met her, and her tremors were well under control for the entire time I knew her. One time while she was still living alone, her DBS battery lost its regular recharge and she ended up in the hospital until the technician showed up and reset her software. She was jerking so much in those few hours, so unhappy, she said if she stays this way she just wants to be dead. The most unbelievable thing I learned from attending multiple Parkinson's lectures and product shows by the DBS companies: Of all the Parkinson's patients that are candidates for DBS, only 10% agree to get it. Yes, you read that right. The average Parkinson's patient is just too intimidated by the procedure to have it done. That is the saddest thing about Parkinson's disease today.
I think a lot of people went there as he’s such an advocate for making society aware of the disease . It would be great if he did get the opportunity to have this operation and give hope to other sufferers .
Looking around, I see that there is assistive device for cerebral palsy people….a pull on sleeve for arms and legs to curb spasticity. It’s not only here, it’s BEEN here. As we go ga-ga over these things……..remember we lost the super computer because Senators Obstruction wouldn’t fund, went to other countries instead. Stem cell research quashed same reason. Senator No said no. We are far behind where we should be because of the pharmaceutical-industrial complex.
I was going to ask the same question. I mean, come on, look at the difference, it is a miracle and MJF should see at Steve Jobs’ story and try to avoid bad decisions. With all due respect.
Parkinson's sufferers are benefiting from vitamin B1 therapy. See the book "Parkinson's and the B1 Therapy" - I would suggest giving this a good try before embarking on pharmaceutical route. But be patient because this approach requires it as the book states.
My blind sister and I had Multiple sclerosis And she got her sight back the same way I did mine by a back adjustment. We had both had a back injury as a child and flipped over backwards 3 times as an adult. But I'm a quad because no doctor will touch me because Researchers say it is not a bad injury.
My goodness! I'm so sorry this happened to you and your sister! You deserve the best treatment available! Keep fighting! Get an advocate or case manager for yourself, honey. Ask your Dr or insurance company to get you one.
God bless the hands of the doctors and their brains. I ponder would that work for those with short term memory. I know a Dr Of Chemistry young man has probs with short term memory which is destroying his life and given all he did for people I'd love if it worked for him I truly would
This year I met the fourth mother with a down syndrome child. And asked if she had used wheat germ In unlimited amounts before enduring pregnancy. All for said yes. But I can't get a researcher to ask that question because that's not how research is done.
I wonder if it works for everyone. I have seen that cannabis has a similar effect . I do hope this is a new technique and a lot of sufferers get the option to get this operation.
Lmfao everytime I hear a surgeon say “anchor” something to something else in your body…he bout to hammer that ish in and definitely not be delicate about it 🤣
I'd love to meet Michael J. Fox. I hear he lives in Oregon, Like I do. My state, and people like governor Kitzhaber, and Julie Kelley, have definitely helped the disabled like myself.
This is so amazing! So cool what technology can do now! The hope it has brought to so many people! I am so Excited for all these Parkinsons Patients! They all have a new lease on life! Thrilled! Love it so much! CATHERINE MAGEE
May God bless Ali Rezai and other compassionate doctors who tirelessly help their patients.
KEEP UP THE PROMISING WORK!
What a fantastic story!! Praise God for those who study to help others improve their life. What a TRUE BLESSING 🙌

Wow what a life changing procedure. Has Michael J Fox had this procedure? I haven’t heard him speak about it, and if he hasn’t I wonder why?
I thought of him right away.

Michael says he doesn’t want this. When asked why he responds “It’s brain surgery!”
