  • The Seventh-day Adventist Reform Movement (SDARM), and corresponding International Missionary Society are separate denominations from the "Mainstream" SDA church today. What makes them different?

    My brother, I am Seventh-day Adventist and I can say that I fully appreciate your treatment of these topics. No emotion, no bias, no mudslinging, just the facts. No one can argue with the facts (even though some may try). You are very thorough in your research and I praise God for the clear presentation of beliefs. It has given me a moment for pause to ask more questions about the SDARM and do a deeper study since on the surface, it seems to align more with what I believe. God bless your ministry.

      It is good that you found a pastor who teaches straight from the Bible. It is always important however to not be "married" to a denomination. I myself have a pastor who I owe a lot to and deeply respect... but I don't take his Word as gospel. :-) A lot of pastors teach "straight from the Bible" but come up with very different interpretations. I'm not familiar with your pastor so I mean no offense, I only mean: learn to study on your own, with tools, and don't be afraid to disagree. Only God knows your heart, you owe reverence or allegiance to no man, only God.
      A Strong's Concordance is a wonderful tool for Bible study. Also The Companion Bible is a very good study Bible.

    My family happened to be driving around when I spotted a Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement church in Greenwood, Indiana. Our family is Seventh-Day Adventist. We ended up attending the church service one Sabbath, expecting potentially German speaking people there, because of their history in Germany. We found out that the whole church was Hispanic. Thankfully they had a translator. But, nevertheless we had a good time, and told them we were Adventists afterward. They seemed like really nice people.

    Very good... i learned things i didn't know.
    Im a Seventh-day Adventist and i have only met one RSDA in my life. They are much smaller than SDA. Essentially they are old school adventist who make certain classic/traditional Adventist teachings and suggestions mandatory. SDA tends to be more of a big tent. When i was a child i was told we shouldn't join the military. But it's not enforced. I have seversl cousins who served, members of my local church who served and one of the most prominent Adventists is Admiral Barry Black who is the US Senate Chaplin...my current pastor served in the navy!

    I honestly think it's quite funny that the Reform movement is essentially trinitarian but refuse to identify as such because that word was used by Catholicism. It's such an arbitrary reason to dismiss the concept.

    • @mommieofdos
      @mommieofdos ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Paganism taught that the supreme being is a Triune. Three beings stemming from one physical central body.
      Catholicism adopted this in its teaching of Father Son and Holy ghost.
      By removing the son and replacing the son with himself (the pope), the emphasis is placed on female worship bc Mary takes the place of Jesus in the God head in heaven. And The pope take the place of Jesus on earth.
      While Catholicism proports that the Trinity has three separate beings, searching the records reflects an adoption of the pagan beliefs.
      So Trinity does mean something different from Godhead.

    • @mercster
      @mercster ปีที่แล้ว

      No man or church understands the trinity. The concept in name does not exist in the Bible, as I'm sure you're aware. To come to a trinitarian conclusion is fair, given Scripture, but by no means is any formulation of it set in stone.
      I find it very strange that people are willing to a) State with 100% surety the nature of the trinity, and b) Kick others out of their church for not agreeing. This is the cause of the East/West schism, as I'm sure you're aware. And churches/Christians continue to squabble over this.
      Does ANYONE seriously believe that at Judgement, after having believed in Christ, repented of their sins, and done their best to live a good life... they will be denied an eternity with God because their formula for the trinity was wrong on some technical point?
      People are so funny. :-)

      Trinity, Trinitarian.... after researching on how it originated even before God calling Abraham out to serve Him, it should make a real Christian abhor such word. I'm so sad that so many SDA pastors and leaders have been brainwashed to believe it. And more sad when I see that many of them are so talented and look so spiritually dedicated to God, but when it comes to question such belief they get itchy and label you as enemy of God. I am 65 years old and grew up in the SDA church and seen the intentions of people trying to introduce this heresy in my church of that time but saw how our good fellowmen fought against it. Then 1980 came, I was going to church, but disconnected from any happenings at the upper level of the GC, and didn't notice the change. It's only after 2015 that I started to wake up and question. And coming 2020 I made an in-depth research and realized how far we got away from our original biblical roots.

      The 6th commandments says, Thou shalt not kill. It does not say, Thou shalt not slay. What if God decided to put sinners in hell fire for how long they rejected him before they died? So 120 years in hell for 120 years of unrepentant sins and 30 years in hell for 30 years of unrepentant sins. Charity never faileth but love can wax cold. The last time I checked only women can give birth and produce milk for each baby. A man can never exactly be a woman. It is sad that American culture and the world's culture at large have changed husbands working hard outside the house and women working hard inside the house until the children are raised. Please reach at least one soul each week with the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Let us get ready for the new earth. Stars are not that big and cannot be trillions of miles away because of Revelation 6:13. Stars are sources of light and help with seasons. If Judge Jesus is considered a foreign prince, would you defend the constitution or obey the word of God? Sodomy (homosexuality) is a deathstyle. Biology is when two men and two women will never have their own literal children. Tragedy is when a husband and a wife cannot literally make one flesh. People should go preaching at abortion clinics. You abhor idols but you commit sacrilege by going to church every sunday. Remember that Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by the Lord in Genesis. Sodomites (homosexuals, furries, necromancers) are disobeying the first commandment which God gave, which is, Be fruitful and multiply. Women should wear dresses and a head covering. Men should wear trousers with no head covering. The mark of the beast is spiritual and physical. Only God can create in the Bible sense which is to bring something out of nothing. Peace unto you. Let us follow the pure Christian religion. Dragon is the old word for dinosaur. Elohim is a devil. The saints are going through tribulation but that will end when the Lord Jesus shall return. The world shall go through the wrath of God, not tribulation. The saints shall possess the kingdom and we shall reign here for a 1,000 years. The feet of our Lord Jesus will touch the Olivet mount. The gospel of John shows that the Lord Jesus rose before the first day of the week. He died in the midst of the week and rose on the sabbath. Daniel 9:27, John 19:31, John 20. We would say that he died on Wednesday and rose on Saturday. The first passover of the holy old king James Bible always comes before the heathen Easter. Read Acts 12:1-4. If the first passover falls around Easter like in 2022, then something is wrong. The calendar problem must be solved. I am not relying on man and that is why the belief I have is different from most people. We ought to pray for the repentance and success of kings and all those in authority. I pray for president Joe Biden and his cabinet to do well and repent of their sins. I have been praying for all those in authority since I read 1 Timothy 2:1-4 some years ago. I am a sabbath keeping, new moon celebrating, holy day feast observing Christian that would never knowingly eat pork, shrimps, or anything sacrificed to idols. It is an abomination for a Christian to eat shrimps, pork, chicken, etc. Adam and Eve were children of God but they sinned by eating from an unclean tree. The mark of the beast will be IN the right hand or IN the forehead. It is spiritual and physical. Most of the world worships the beast by keeping sunday, friday, Christmas, Easter, Eid, Diwali, etc. The carnal mark is linked to a digital economy. Our Lord Jesus never ate shrimps or pork. Prayerfully read Leviticus 11:43 and Revelation 21:8. If you make yourself abominable, that is a sin! Repent.
      The new covenant will not save you if you continue being rebellious and stubborn against the word of the Lord. It is a sin to steal and a sin to forget the sabbath (saturday). *1 Samuel **15:23** KJV - For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.* Witchcraft, sorcery idolatry, witches, sorcerers, idolaters will be cast into hellfire. Only they that are washed in the blood of the Lord Jesus and keep his commandments shall be kings and priests. There is no such thing as a sunday rest or sunday sabbath in the Bible. Only the seventh day is blessed, sanctified and hallowed. Isaiah 66:22,23 says that from one new moon to another and from one sabbath to another shall all flesh worship before the Lord in the new earth. Matthew 7:21-23 proves that not everyone that says Jesus is Lord will enter the kingdom. We need to do the will of the Father which is to obey and honor our Lord Jesus Christ. He kept the new moons and we ought to keep them.

    There are quite a few small groups within SDA who believe the SDA church erred in rejecting the 1888 message, but righteousness by faith wasn't what was rejected. SDAs today all teach Righteousness by Faith as far as I know.

    • @brettweier9504
      @brettweier9504 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do, but a lot of issue around the Reform Movement's stance on this was the... delay, in this acceptance. When the 1888 teaching emphasising salvation by grace was taught, the denomination swept it under the rug somewhat. Many accepted it, but many didn't. This came to a head somewhat in the 1920's and beyond, around the same time the reform movement was founded, though after this point the teaching became more and more readily accepted.
      In short SDAs and SDARMs would now agree on this topic, but many adventists did not agree with the stance when the Reform movement was founded.

      The real controversy of 1888 that no one talks about is the "law that was added" in Galatians. The SDA leadership rejected that message and maintains a legal-penal substitution type system to this day.
      If you want to hear an alternative view more in line with Jones and Wagoner you could read "The God-shaped Heart" by Adventist psychologist Timothy Jennings. There are small groups within Adventism that understand 1888 many of whom stumble on the truth by reading EGW.

    • @colinheesom
      @colinheesom ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the lack of revival by understanding the 1888 message largely remains: only a few scholars pick up its uniqueness, like Jon Pauline.
      Jesus is Saviour "of all men" not just those who believe: salvation is real in Jesus because "all died" in his death (2.Cor 5:15), for sinners only to come to know who they are in Christ for faith to begin. Such powerful motivation can harness God's grace to victory, amen.

    • @colinheesom
      @colinheesom ปีที่แล้ว

      @@americanswan Yes, the heart motivation is the nub of the rebirth, but this truth goes with the penal substitution Christ had to suffer for us: death to sin & self in Christ's death for us is the pivotal truth of the Bible, Ellen White, Waggoner & Jones.
      Tim Jennings may not skip this or he will lose the rest of his message & the whole gospel as well: it's never just accepting a heartfelt appreciation that God is love - a mental agreement, such is not the miraculous conversion of dying to self and coming alive to Christ.

But I still love my former sda church so as of now I attend the sda and enjoy the company of them, I share with them the truths that I recieved from the Lord through the Sdarm , the sdarm church is very far from here thats why I attend the sda but I took the opportunity to share and they are happy with me.At least they are not prejudice. Christ Jesus our Lord rose before the end of the sabbath because he died in the midst of the week as written in Daniel 9:27 and was in the sepulchre before 7pm wednesday. In John 19 and John 20, we see that the disciples went there in the end of the sabbath. Christ also met them in the first night of the week as read in the book of Matthew, which is from saturday at sundown to before sunrise on sunday. Ezekiel 8:16 clearly shows the sinners having their Easter sunrise service by worshipping the sun towards the east.

They are a small denomination(as is the one you just covered), that is and has been very much hated by the SDA church. It was silenced in every way possible by the General Conference at the time. Knowledge of what they believe and their history is not known by the vast majority of people(even Adventists today). If you are doing a video on SDA reform movements or branches then the GADSDA movement should also be listed as it has a history that the SDA church wants to be forgotten and silenced.

    Of all the 7th Day Adventist Churches that I visited - one I attended quite regularly for about a year to two years. I was convinced about Sabbath Day - Saturday Worship - at that time. As far as the Dietary Laws of the Old Testament they interpret that as complete vegetarianism. Sorry, I like a good lean beef burger. I can understand that there must have been a "Plant Based Diet" in the Garden of Eden, but the Jews ate meat, chicken and fish, no pork or certain other mammals & birds and restricted fish. There are indications that on average the 7th Day Adventist in America are one of the healthiest citizens in the country. I found the veneration of Ellen White was an overkill that prompted me to return to a Sunday Based Worship Day.
    As for their strict adherence to Biblical Study & Truth it is really "Spot On" and I do believe that Saturday is the Biblically True Day for Worship, I find it very hard to become a Vegetarian. Maybe that is something to consider or at least limiting animal in one's diet. Too much Ellen White.
    Covid certainly put a damper on attending any services. I visited many different churches for I believe in "The Body of Christ". There was one 7th Day Congregation that I considered going back just to attend Worship. Very Welcoming. Should return and attend. Better than no church. Quite a drive. Don't attend anything locally as for a Sunday Worship Church. I think the "End Times are near. At least for me. Sabbath is Saturday.
    As for Ready to Harvest, these are some of the best analyses of Christianity and its divisions. Extremely In-depth. Thanks. God Bless in Jesus' Name. Amen.

      You just have to take EGW with a grain of salt because some adventists are very IN TO HER and some are not in it just depends on what church you go to. I was raised to SDA and I didn't even know who EGW was till I was in my teens that's how little she was emphasized in the church I grew up in. The official teaching of the church and most of it is I know is when in doubt go with The Bible. If EGW causes you confusion then just go with The Bible she is only there to help and guide but she does not supercede The Bible.
      Vegetarism is encouraged but not required with SDAs. Its a practice in discipline...but not required for membership. My aunts who were amongst the first Adventists in my family ate meat for over 20 or 30yrs after joining the church. It's only now in their 70s they have become vegetarians and my grandmother never made that switch and they were all leaders and highly respected in our local church!
      Now on the other hand we did have some vegetarians at our church and one of our members live to be a 107 years old actually she died 1 week before she turned a 107 and she was a vegetarian. I have another aunt who is not an adventist but has an adventist like diet... and she's 96yrs old and still healthy and in her right mind.

      @@Keonny77 Thanks for your reply. Although the SDA Church that I attended is not close, I have to get going on Saturday Worship Focus. One becomes so programmed by Sunday Worship. The entire Protestant Society - few exceptions - and Western Society - America are conditioned into Roman Sunday. In fact I still have my last copy of "Rome's Challenge", but I lost/recycled my notes on the book "Sabbath to Sunday". I almost bought a few some years ago to give to my Catholic Family and Christian Community, but I've been disowned/distant for quite some time. Anyways, sometimes I do not "Fret" with Saturday verses Sunday, but God did command His chosen people to have their day of "Rest" to Worship the Creator on the 7th Day. Jesus, His Disciples and the early Believers of "The Way" would attend - including Gentile converts - Saturday Worship which begins on Friday Night. Afterwards, the followers of Jesus would gather Saturday Night for the "Feed Bag" and have their 'Guest Speakers' and/or read Letters and Scriptures in many situations well into Sunday. I was a part of the IMSSDARM for a while, but eventually left and joined the SDA church. The only difference between the two reforms that I could see was the nature of Christ. The Reform takes the position that "Christ was tempted in all points as we are yet without sin" strictly applies to the 3 temptations. Whereas the IMSSDARM took the view that Christ had the same internal temptations as you or I, yet didn't yield to them. I take the latter view now in the SDA church, but there are many different views. The "funny" thing is: SDA-REF and IMS claim that the SDA church has rejected the message of 1888 while adopting the mother church's view on the Godhead. The message of 1888 was as non-trinitarian as it can get:
    „While both are of the same nature, the Father is first in point of time. He is also greater in that he had no beginning, while Christ’s personality had a beginning“ (E. J. Waggoner, The Signs of the Times, April 8, 1889).
    Waggoner's book "Christ and his Righteousness" (Jan 1889) was based on his preaching at the GC 1888. The first 4 chapters are about Christ's relationship to God and how his birth was a literal event in eternity past.

      You can literally test Ellen White against the Bible and show she’s a false prophetess on numerous occasions too. It should be extremely obvious by just what they teach alone with prophecy and how 90% of it is just plain wrong. The SDA Church belongs to Rome, it’s their favorite controlled opposition for anyone that realizes the Pope is the Antichrist. If they can’t fool a person away from that truth they’ll try and sort their lot into the SDA Church and damn them to hell with a false spirit that’s not of GOD. Paul said if you take another spirit you might well bear with it and also made it clear that a different gospel can’t save you. You don’t believe in eternal security in the SDA Church and you’re working your way to heaven with the false laws of Ellen White.
      I’m not trolling you, I’m trying to help you avoid the fires of hell because 99% of the people I’ve met in the SDA Church are not saved according to the Bible. I very rarely meet one who trusts on Jesus and denounces Ellen’s teachings and those people always say the same thing, they just want to go to Church on Sabbath and don’t have another Church in their area who offers that. Those people are my brothers and sisters. The rest of the SDA Church is unfortunately working their way straight to a Matthew 7:21-23 conclusion and it’s extremely sad.
      I want you to be saved if you’re not already trusting on Christ alone and denying the false teachings of the plagiarist witch Ellen White. You should really study her past more, you’d know she had a lot of false prophecies in her lifetime if you did. You’d know her Spirit of Prophecy book got edited 6 different times by the SDA Church too. The original was still a demonic book but they’ve now removed all the things she said that were obviously wrong and left many things that are still wrong but less obvious if you’re already under her spell.

      @YAJUN YUAN ^ Read this.
      I know everything that the SDA Church believes, your Church however doesn’t trust the Bible, that’s a common lie that I hear often. You do however trust a false interpretation of it made by a witch named Ellen White.
      Miller himself said he was completely wrong too, and I agree. Miller even got the year of Jesus’s death and the year of the decree going out off by a year too. It was in fall 458 BCE that the decree went out and Jesus died in 30 AD. The Jewish Calendar even confirms that this is the only possible year for his death besides 27 AD or 37AD where Jesus would have died on a Wednesday like the story clearly shows us he did. Those other two years are notably wrong and we know Paul was already an apostle by early 34 AD too.
      Jesus got interred in the grave at sundown when Nisan 15th was beginning without his burial procedures finished which would be a Thursday in Jewish terms. He spent Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the tomb and Jesus rose to life after evening fell on Sabbath which Jews consider the start of Sunday. By Jewish law of that era the entire time period from Nisan 15 to the next true Sabbath is a rest period and a Sabbath in itself. Jesus rested all three nights and days of that Sabbath and then rose to life immediately after the Sabbath period ended. Mary Magdalene and the other women were on their way back Sunday morning before the sun rose because it was the first day where they could legally go finish Jesus’s burial procedure.
      Before you say it, I am aware that Jesus spoke of his death and resurrection in two different terms. Sometimes he said three days and nights in the tomb of the Earth(completed) and other times he said on the third day he’d raise his body to life(incomplete). Jesus was telling us when he was coming back for us(his body on Earth). The Bible is full of two day and third day parables and they’re all related to the Messiah’s return. At some point after two days(2000 years) it’s his solemn promise to come retrieve us and start a paradise. Learn that Ellen White only told lies please, put your faith in Christ alone! I’ll pray for you now!
      GOD Bless! ❤️

In most cases they are more strict to some aspects of the bible and neglect others on the other hand. I grew up in an SDA family in Germany. The positions might vary slightly from Country to Country and even region. All together the tolerance level is higher in north Germany than in the south but its higher alltogether than in african countries i guess. The actual head of the SDA general conference (Ted Wilson) is quite conservative and wants to reunite as many believers as possible to more strict views. For my part i am much more liberal in many positions including the so called special teachings of the SDA...

The funny thing is that in Spanish, the church just calls it "La Trinidad", so as the person said, it's not that Mormonism is opposed to the Trinity, it just doesn't like the term. I am of the opinion that Mormonism, like Adventism, is in fact trinitarian, but the churches disliked the Catholic tradition so much that they started using the term "Godhead" as a protest...but when you get down to the nuts and bolts, there's nothing canonical in Adventism or Mormonism that is incongruent with the Orthodox-Catholic description of the "mystery" of the Trinity.

A much more reasonable stance, in my opinion. Our bodies are a temple, and we should keep them healthy... but the pursuit of that health is not always black and white. Vegetarianism can be immensely beneficial to some, but terrible for others. Furthermore, vegetarianism doesn't automatically equate to health. Chocolate is vegetarian!! At the end of the day, the core of the "health message" is the pursuit of good health.

      The main similarity I am aware of is that SDAs and JWs both believe the dead are asleep and that the unrepentant are annihilated instead of being tormented forever. SDAs are trinitarians who believe that salvation is by grace alone. They believe in a visible return of Christ and that Christ is fully God and fully man.

    I’ve been a SDA since 1992…. Around 2012 I found out that the SDA church was non-trinitarian for the first 50 years (at the absolute minimum!! With further investigation I think it is more like 100. Look up the 1872 and 1889 statements of beliefs and compare them with the 1980 statements.) After a little over a year of research I came to the conclusion that the early church had the truth and I voiced my acceptance of the 1872 statements and I was disfellowshipped! I had no intention of leaving but the Michigan Conference insisted that I leave if I could not accept the new doctrine.

    As a member of a reform group in the West Indies (not called reform in our name though) our stance on the Godhead is this. God is triune and though each part is fully God, there would be no God without the 3. We can never truly begin to understand a truly eternal being but I think he left clues in his creation. Mankind is body(form), spirit(breath/life force), and soul(consciousness). God is infinite power(father), infinite wisdom(son), and infinite love(spirit).
    If you have power but no wisdom how would you use it? If you have love but no power or wisdom can you work in righteousness? Just like how humans need body, soul, and spirit to be fully effective then God has to have all three to be fully effective. One human, one God. But we are finite and we cannot grasp the realms of the infinite like what happened in the incarnation. However I believe this to be a stable explanation of who and what God is. Blessings to you all.

Sounds exactly like the judiasers, the same anti-Christ mentors who were a plague to Peter, Paul and other aspostles. Christians should focus on Christ. Hey Joshua. I wanted to get your opinion. This is a little off topic of this particular video but has to do with the overarching premise of your channel.
    One of the common complaints from those skeptical of Christianity is the argument from religious/biblical confusion. In a nutshell, the argument would be that the Bible cannot be a revelation from an all-knowing, all-powerful and all-loving God because there is so much disagreement among Christians. This would not be expected if Christianity was true but is not surprising if something like naturalistic atheism is true. If the Christian God exists, surely he would not allow so much confusion about his message.
    I figured that very few people would know more about the differences between Christian denominations than you, but one of the things I notice from watching your videos is that Christians share more commonalities than differences especially on issues that most Christians would regard necessary for having a saving faith. That is to say there's one God, this God is triune, this God is the Creator of us all, that our relationship with God has been damaged due to the entrance of sin in this world, that God sent His Son to die for our sins, and that he physically raised him from the dead. And if we trust in Christ we will be saved from sin and have eternal life, and that Jesus will eventually return to raise the dead in Christ to himself.
    While I'm not Reformed, I personally think the Westminster Confession of Faith (1.7) hits the nail on the head when it says "The meanings of all the passages in the Bible are not equally obvious, nor is any individual passage equally clear to everyone. However, everything which we have to know, believe, and observe in order to be saved is so clearly presented and revealed somewhere in the Bible that the uneducated as well as the educated can sufficiently understand it by the proper use of the ordinary means of grace."
    My question is this: In studying the different denominations and all of their many differences, has your confidence decreased in God's ability to communicate with mankind his saving message or has it increased?

    • @joshvarges9230
      @joshvarges9230 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The confusion is because of protestant sola scriptura. The reformation which really was fuelled by innovations in printing of bibles put interpretation of scripture away from the magisterium of the western church into the hands of local authority. this has really devolved into individual believers in the modern world having the authority to interpret as they wish.
      thankfully the ancient church councils established a consensus regarding the trinity and divinity of jesus in the West.
      if an athiest presses you on the state of modern christianity tell them Christ gave us one church not a canon of sacred scripture. and that one church still exists to this day guided by the holy spirit with a supreme teaching authority in succession to Peter the apostle

    • @ReadyToHarvest

      Good question. Researching denominations has not led me to view Christianity as less credible. I don't see how it follows like some claim.
      Just because God is able to by his omnipotence suppress the "free speech" of humanity to promote corrupted versions of the truth does not mean he will. So even if God just wants people to be free to believe what they want and say what they want is an answer to why his omnipotence is compatible with the mixed messages found in denominations.
      The Bible itself claims that there will be false prophets and opposing opinions prevalent, so it seems compatible with what we see. Also, divine hiddenness can provide additional arguments for why God may have an interest in allowing people to promote many versions of Christianity.

      A Reformatory Movement (CH 580)
      "In visions of the night representations passed before me of a great reformatory movement among God’s people. Many were praising God. The sick were healed and other miracles were wrought. A spirit of intercession was seen, even as was manifested before the great day of Pentecost. Hundreds and thousands were seen visiting families and opening before them the word of God. Hearts were convicted by the power of the Holy Spirit, and a spirit of genuine conversion was manifest. On every side doors were thrown open to the proclamation of the truth. The world seemed to be lightened with the heavenly influence. Great blessings were received by the true and humble people of God. I heard voices of thanksgiving and praise, and there seemed to be a reformation such as we witnessed in 1844.
      Yet some refused to be converted. They were not willing to walk in God’s way, and when, in order that the work of God might be advanced, calls were made for freewill offerings, some clung selfishly to their earthly possessions. These covetous ones became separated from the company of believers.-Testimonies for the Church 9:126
      (1909)."

      This is a future Reform Movement. It must be seen in the context of the latter rain.

    Thanks for doing such excellent research.
    Sometimes after hearing a sermon, my wife has commented, on the way home, “If ya can’t convince ‘em, confuse ‘em.” She believes (and I agree) that some preachers know their sermons will be considered profound because they are inscrutable. Some of the statements from the so-called “SdA Reform Movement” seem to fall in that category. By itself, the fact that I don’t understand something doesn’t mean it is “wrong” but, if someone who likes to think of himself as a “leader” or who is trying to speak for an organization with thousands of members can’t take the time to consult with the lay membership to see whether THEY understand it well enough to repeat it in their own words, well, that, by itself, is “wrong”.
    Some of the disagreements among the members of the organizations you have mentioned in this video are, at least as much as anything else, about how dogmatic the members of a religious organization should be.
    I haven’t found much interest in this idea but I have a suggestion about how to minimize the dogmatism. It seems to me that any religious organization (perhaps especially organizations whose emphasis is new enough that people haven’t started describing its beliefs and practices as “traditions”) would do well to avoid making lists of doctrines that a) people are required to affirm in order to be voting members of the organization, b) people are required to teach in order to be paid as clergy or c) can be used for the purpose of determining who is and who isn’t “heretical”. As an alternative, I suggest making a list of things that anybody paid from tithe funds may NOT teach.
    In the mid twentieth century, I never heard SdA refer to their beliefs or practices as traditions. Over the last about forty years, however, it has become clear that many SdA have come to rely on “adventist traditions” in the same way that members of most other denominations are traditionalists.
    I have never taught that Seventh-day Adventists are or ever have been “unanimous” about much of anything other than that the principles of the Decalogue are perpetual and universal, that the seventh day of the week (Saturday) is the biblical sabbath day, that the second advent of Jesus will precede the millennium, that (to use the language of John Wycliffe in the fifteenth century and Martin Luther in the sixteenth century) the condition of the dead is “an unconscious sleep between death and resurrection” and that death in Jesus “is a fine, sweet, and brief sleep”, that the purpose of the return of Jesus is to resurrect the people who have died in faith and take living believers with them to the mansions he has gone to prepare and that the initial phase of the final judgment began at the close of the 2300 days mentioned in Daniel 8:14.
    Other doctrines I have never taught include:
    That the seventh day of the week is “the proper day to worship God”.
    (True Christians worship God every day of the week.)
    That the Seventh-day Adventist organization is a “Church”.
    (The first Seventh-day Adventist conferences - including the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists incorporated in 1863, didn’t use the word “Church” in the names under which they were incorporated.)
    That the use of arms to defend oneself, one’s family or one’s country is always a sin.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists holding that view if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That military service on the sabbath day is always a sin.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists holding that view if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That remarriage (to another person) after divorce is always a sin.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists holding that view if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That eating flesh foods is a sin.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists holding that view if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That the King James translation should be employed exclusively as the basis of doctrine.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists holding that view if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That only 144,000 people will be translated when Jesus returns.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists holding that view if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That the doctrine that Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one God in three persons is erroneous.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists’ preference to avoid the word “Trinity” if they aren’t dogmatic about it.)
    That Christmas and Easter are biblical holy days.
    (Although I don’t object to other adventists “celebrating those holidays if they don’t do so in SdA church building and don’t try to impose such celebrations on other adventists.)
    That the Lord’s supper should be “closed” to Christians of other denominations.
    That a communal cup should be used during the celebration of the Lord’s supper.
    Just to be clear, the above are doctrines I DON’T teach. I don’t consider any of the above doctrines to be essential to the emphases that brought the present-day advent movement into existence.
