I was there in front of the stage. The floor crowd was pretty good. The city of Lansing said the show had to be over by 10:00pm and since it was June 30th, it doesn't get dark in Michigan until 9:30. It was a good show.

For my money this is their best song in a lot of different ways/areas. The lyrics are brilliant. His use of metaphor/analogy/hyperbole is absolutely epic. What they were trying to achieve with this album coming off of Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum, peaked with this track. When it would have been so easy to just churn out Joshua Tree type stuff ...'forever' It was a BIG risk, I even think they could have brought The Fly out under a fake name it was so far from their previous work (certainly later with Lemon).. Many people in life hit a high, and many milk it whilst it lasts... to have the guts to move on, move forward, explore, dare to take a risk and be scared.... Its not only a great song in their armor of great songs... it's no.1 for me for that reason...

Fly is a dark song that shold be have it´s appaearance in the dark... The more better it works as a rock thing outside the dark. Who cares about the audience with that? ;) F*ck the audiance! Yeah. I feel that the reason people arent jumping up and down and moving is they just are not comfortable yet. It feels more awkward to jump in a lot of concerts just a song or too in, especially if its still light out.

I think the poor reception of the audience is due in part to the time the show is being played. I mean, who could possibly enjoy an immense spectacle like U2 played at 2 pm for fuck's sake? :D
Obviously you don't have a clue what you're talking about. There's a ton of daylight during that time of the year. Much of that concert occurred at night as well. I know....I was there.
My girlfriend at the time wanted to leave early @360 Glasgow... I walked her out put her in a taxi home... and went back in for this... we left each other that night.
East Lansing has to be the worst crowd I've ever seen. Hell it looks like they're at an Elton John concert!! I can see why U2 didn't go back to EL on the new tour smh
