The Impalas are known to easily go 250k to 350k but thats the 3800, an indestructible engine that can take the worst abuse from uncaring owner. & on Wards Best Engine List numerous times & near 25 million made But this is the 3400, a junk engine that lasted only a few years.

@@rodneykuhn7025 Yup! Mine is a 2003 3800. Around 90K I did a Top swap, took the plastic UIM off and put on an Aluminum one which came back in late 04 and 05. Got Aluminum valve covers from a junk yard '97 Camaro, shine them up to a mirror finish. Thats another reason to love the 3800. 30-50 million engines out there, tons of parts, there's many 3800 specialty vendors who sell soup'd up and or very much improved 3800 engine parts. Mines got 156K on it and I will own it till I die. There's a great 3800 engine video on South Main Auto Channel. The engine is running bad, they found some other shop misdiagnosed the problem and they also found it was only running on 3 cylinders and it was still running pretty good. Its an indestructible engine that will never stop no matter what you do to it. You should watch the video.

Um I have a 2005 chevy impala with the 3400 engine with 228k still running strong original engine only thing I had to rebuild was the transmission at 214k the 3400 engine is far from junk very reliable engine if you take care of it plus I don't use dex cool in my car I use 50/50 green antifreeze

@@impalaboy3143 Yeah, junk was a bit strong, but it's no 3800, nor did it have the new after market parts support or 25+ million production engines to keep the 3800 going for the next few decades. The NA 3800 was no power house but the 3400 at just 175 engine hp, I thought was to little for the Impala, especially given in 06 you could get a V8. Both 3400 and 3800 suffered from LIM dex coolant gasket failures but I must admit the 3800 suffered even more coolant failures due to the EGR tube melting the upper intake manifold. But being the 3800 I was able to junk the plastic UIM and slap on an aluminum upper from another year, also replaced the oil leaking plastic valve covers on my '03 with aluminum covers from a 97 Camaro, perfect fit. Thats part of what made it a great engine. Only have 160k on my '03 and I'll have this car till I die. Glad you love you engine and it's still running after all those miles. Enjoy!

You set fk your saying people need a used decent car and maybe they don’t have a lot of money etc until you mark up the price on a used car that has 170,000 miles or up and mark up the price ten grand and sell the car $14,000
