- This is a how-to video on installing primary downpipes on a BMW F90 M5. In a previous video, I showed how to replaced the secondary downpipes. Replacing the secondary downpipes didn't add much sound, so I replaced the primaries as well. In my opinion, this setup is the sweet spot for the F90. In comfort, there's no drone. You can hear the exhaust slightly more when cruising in comfort, but it's still quiet enough for a relaxing daily commute. In sport, you get more sound and great cracks on upshifts.

Thanks for the video! This was very helpful during my install. I did both primary and secondary. Still in the middle of it and struggling to align the primary to both the secondary and the turbo
Glad it was helpful! Yeah, aligning them was a pain!
You can install the secondaries and keep stage 2. It won’t be an issue. The primary cats are the main restriction.
Was there any difference in sound between these and the OEM downpipes?
Oh yeah, very noticeable sound difference.
Hey, is running downpipes worth it? Other than my project gamma front intakes on my F90 everything else is stock. I am in need for more exhaust note it’s way to quiet. I was looking into purchasing an awe full cat back track exhaust as it has gotten pretty good feedback from other owners.
The catted primary + secondary pipes combo did make a difference, but I found myself wanting a little more sound at times. If you can find an exhaust that is the same as stock with the valves closed and rowdy with the valves open, that’s that I would recommend. Of course, that’s going to cost more.
Did you get a check engine light after the install? Wondering if the high flow would pass inspection instead of going fully catless
You will get a check engine light. A tune will suppress it, but the car won’t go into readiness state and you won’t pass emissions.
@@LenartoGarage If the car cannot pass emissions with the high flow cats what was you reasoning for using them over catless? To keep sound and smell down?
@@drewsharps8179Smell and sound. I figured catless would result in more drone.
@Lenarto Garage, where did you purchase your LCI tail lights?
