It's 2023, why are we still limiting modes to 720p?? Seriously??
Resolution on webcams isn't important. This one is limited to 720 because it has an old chip and the webcam mode is basically a hack. All the second wave sony cameras have an amazing native webcam mode. He's right though, this at 720p will still like 10 times better than some gamer 4k webcam, because webcams use really tiny phone sensors except they're nowhere near as good as the average phone.
*AND if you do get a camera which can stream 4k it will def overheat and not good for streamers. That’s why 4k is not used as webcam in such cameras.

I use ZV1 as webcam, but I use a capture card because 1080/60 is a must.
How do you do 1080/60?
720p is a hard no. Maybe 1080p but not 720p.

Got mine from a local camera store last year and used it as a webcam for the first time the other day. Works great!
You should use an elgato cam link 4k, a dummy battery and the micro hdmi to hdmi becuase you can get it to be 4k instead of 720p for only around 150-200 dollars extra
I think that a lot of people scoff at 720p because when they see that resolution fullscreen on a TV or monitor it looks, not great. For a webcam in a stream though odds are that camera output will be resized to a tenth or less the total screen size making it look much clearer than expected.
Yeah for webcams the depth of field clarity and colours matter more all of which will lool leagues better on a larger sensor

Oh god, thank you so much. I use my ZV-1 as my webcam and this is a literal one click solution.
I previously had set the USB streaming function on the fav menu, and it was a bit easier than digging for it in the menu everytime, but this is a TIME SAVER!
For regular webcam and under 200 I would say elgato facecam as it is integrated in elgato system, this makes it easy to have it zoom at a button or other stuff
@@DittyBitty69 would say depends on price in country, here the elgato is 160 and the 920 is still high at 120 so to get better resolution and higher fps i would choose facecam, have both and had alot better user experience with facecam as colors are more accurate and 60fps instead for 30
@@DittyBitty69 the facecam is also compatible with nvidias broadcastersoftware having the systems straight into the camera hub for elgato and able to toggle that system on the streamdeck, the elgato also have better low light processing.
So for 40 more it's alot more worth it for the money

Very true. I’m a Fuji shooter but I have one of these as a webcam for client zoom meetings. Looks fantastic with a cheapie 25mm 1.8
I went for the Canon M50 mk2 with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for my "webcam". I am bias towards canon as I have a lot of other lenses I can use too for when I want to take it out with me as a camera. I obviously did need a capture card for the cleanHDMI though.
Just ordered the ZV-E10 w/ 16-50mm lens new for $600, and then ironically stumbled on this short. Pretty stoked on the deal I ran across & I'm excited to learn more about it. It's admittedly my 1st camera. I have a Logi C920 webcam for work so Idk that I'll be using it as a webcam but, cheers🍻

I've been using the ZV-E10 since it dropped. But I use an Avermedia capture card instead of the built in webcam mode. Paired with a 16mm Sigma lens and you are SET.

I use the canon m50 with HDMI and USB cord (the USB cord is for the utility app so it doesn't shut off while streaming or recording.) It doesn't have a clean HDMI though but all you gotta do is set manual focus and cycle through info till the screen is blank.

Zv-1f works well for me at $500! Its a great little content creation camera
The cam overheats, needs a wired battery attachment, and having to constantly reconnect into streaming mode and re plug the usb in is a complete deal breaker.

Should had told people they could get up to 4k resolution as a webcam if they use a capture card in between camera and PC.
All you need is any camera that supports clean hdmi out and a capture card

I would say use the HDMI output, but I don't think the camera would be outputting full quality unless it is actually recording, so probably don't gain anything

Entry level 700usd, i would call that just a high end camera. Pretty expensive for most of us. I would give entry like around 300usd.
I just think the manufacturers are making a big design mistake by putting the USB cable connector right in front of the flipped screen.

Anyone figured out the overheating issue? I end up having to put a small fan on it if it's over 75 degrees in my studio. With the case open, high heat setting.
Just picked this up a week ago with a sigma 16mm. Couldn't find an a5100 so I Said f it and paid twice the price for 4k 30 or 1080 120

Isn't the webcam mode lagging for people?🤔🤔 To have my ZVe10 be snappy as a video input, I gotta use those HDMI capture dongles and setup clear HDMI output on the camera.
No lag for my... But i just use it still on a tripod... Not moving or anything fancy

Why would you not just use the HDMI out and a capture card? The camera is $700 you can afford a 4k capture card. Hell any camera with an HDMI out can be used with a capture card.
The webcam mode is a cheep gimmick they added to this camera likely to grab the zoom work/school market in 2021. A hey buy this camera this year, you can use it for your zoom stuff too kind of thing. No reason for it to drop all the way to 720p
Is the 720p a software thing so if I buy this camera could there be a software update to record 1080p or would I need to wait till the next model with 1080p support?
pretty sure it is a USB thing. If you use the HDMI with a camlink you can get the 1080p. Same goes for a lot of cameras you can use as a webcam. I have a a7riii and if I use the USB-C I get 720.

It shoots 4k, except when in the mode I'm promoting it for them it's 720p. 😅
