I love dachshunds so much, but there is one little thing you have to remember forever - they have really long body and that often causes back injuries. It's called Intervertebral Disk Disease and It is necessary to keep that in mind all their life - they are not allowed to jump on and off stairs, bed, sofa, out of the car or claim stairs ever. Especially puppies, because their back is so soft. We had this problem twice with our 6 year old dachshund and medical care is very expensive in those cases and that can happen to them many many times even after recovery or they can stay paralysed forever. Be aware and don't let Martha jump and you will save her later.
Cost us £ 3000, thankfully he made a full recover, be VERY careful with your baby !!

Yes so true. And please dachshunds owners pick up your baby with both hands under the belly and lift them that way so their backs don't pull.

Hi Jim! So glad to hear you and Tanya got a new pup! Be careful with her breed! Don't let Martha jump from high places cause my friend's dog did that and it ended up injuring its back and became paralyzed. They ended up putting hte dog down because it couldn't walk at all :(! On a brighter note, Martha is absolutely adorable! :)
This is very true. I have two dogs that are the same breed as Martha. One of them was having spine problems because of how much he jumps. We got him laser therapy and he's fine now.

At some point someone told my mom that a daschunds isophagus can be damaged if they tug a lot on their collar like while they're on a leash or tied up, so supposedly a harness is better. This might apply to all dogs too, I don't really know, but it's better to be safe than sorry I guess! (I also don't know if these are the American names for things and if they're different elsewhere so sorry about that)

Years ago I got a cocker spaniel puppy at 8 weeks of age. She would tear-ass around the house like a tornado and then collapse, like Martha, in an inert heap. Sometimes she would tuck herself under the bedskirt on her side and all you could see were pink toe pads facing out. Glad you love your little angel so much. Thanks for the great videos.

This is the first video I have watched of yours. We have our own Martha of sorts. She is Marley and we got her when she was 1.5 years, She had been sheltered from a puppy twice. She is a blue healer/beagle mix and she is our love. Shared this video with our 19 year old son and he was smitten with Martha. Thank you for such a positive and uplifting video!!!

Wait, you guys bathe her everyday?? Please don't do that! Dogs have oils and such in their fur that protects their coat and skin. Over bathing can cause skin sensitivity. A bath once a month is all dogs need unless they roll around in something stinky.
I do believe that this video was filmed the day Martha rolled in her own poop 😂 I don't think they bathe her every day only when she rolls in something stinky
We never bathed our dogs..... Only washed them with the garden hose when it got really hot or when they where dirty... XD

I was sitting in a salon waiting room and noticed a pillow move out of the corner of my eye on the modular lounge .. I lifted it to find one of those mini daschunds .. it was such an enjoyable wait
