What if a Focus ST was JDM and never, ever got parked indoors or even out of the rain under a carport or something? 15 years of direct sunlight brings you the Mazdaspeed 3, available at an apartment complex near you. Turbocharged, front wheel drive, four cylinder'd, hot hatch'd, Japanese'd, man oh man what can't this baby do? It even has back doors and seats so you don't have to sell when you accidentally bust in your girl. Is this the PERFECT CAR? - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

What I like about you guys is that you look at cars actual people can realistically pay cash for and afford.
Same reason I like old RCR. They’re still good but a lot of their reviews are about more exotic/rare cars now

you need to call out everyone of those shit boxes listed as a speed3 that are base 3s. they must be publicly shamed.
2.0 skyactive lookin asses. shame them. shame!
Yes lmaoooo
Literally THE most annoying thing when looking for a speed3 😔
Facts
1st gen mazdaspeed 3’s didn’t have a hood scoop. The intercooler was in the bumper and prone to heat soak and overheating lol.
First gen speed3's didn't have a hood scoop. They might have had a hood like the speed6, intake runner to the top mount from the grill.
1st gen Speed3 Owner here, you are correct
yeah. i used to drive a regular 1st gen mazda 3. i always liked the 1st gen because they didn't have the hood scoop.
They did. And they still had the top mounted intercooler. I had an 09 (last year of the 1st gen) for 4 years.
@@SkylineFTW97 not all of them have hoodscoops I'm pretty sure stock they didn't have them but people put them on from the other gens
stock Speed3 > stock Focus ST.
Speed3 uses the larger K04 turbocharger vs the Focus’ smaller K03. Speed3 also has a mechanical LSD vs the Focus’ open diff.
@willham1427 yes because all cars are engineered by ford lol
Thats why mazdaspeeds remember they are ford and do an unplanned disassembly at 150k miles 🤣
One of my 73 year old dad's all time dream cars. He had a original twin cam Protege that he had hopped up, and he has always wanted another sporty fwd Mazda.
The Mazdaspeed is like a focus ST if you left it out in the sun for too long and gave it a pound of weed
@JdmZack
It’s a crack baby especially on e85

Been loving the upload frequency glad to finally see thsi channel getting the recognition it deserves
First gen Mazdaspeed 3 does not have visible washer jets on the hood. The more you know.

I like Volkswagen atlas
Lol. Who doesn't, though, huh?
MZR/Duratec is such an underrated motor to build for these, and Id trust port injection over some black box rebuilt high flow fuel pump.. 2.5 block. 2.3 crank and a non skyactive 2.5 manifold with port injection to supplement the GDI on flex are great recipes for the mazda cars. The 2.5S is also a good 3, but there isnt a limited slip. The cool thing about these is that if you have a ranger, or a fusion, or a miata, a lot of parts are going to work for the motor and transmission and that gives a lot of potential for pretty much anything you want to do with a focus, fusion, 3, 5, 6, ranger, etc. Need cams? Cram those old miata units in there. Wanna go full racecar? How about some cosworth stuff or a sprint car motor? Great stuff. I love, love, love, talking that shit.

These cars don't need PI until you push past ~450whp. The DI system is plenty reliable so long as you periodically clean the injectors and valves.

The chemistry between you guys is so good. This is quickly becoming my most watched channel.
I lowkey loved the Regal. Clean inside and out, not to mention the paints they chose blended very nicely together.
Note to self: Black and gray, when matched with the shade of the tires, makes for an excellent two-tone combo.
Discovered your channel on Saturday. Been watching these videos and laughing my ass off at the commentary. Keep up the great work.
Also side note, 1st gen speed 3 don’t have a hood scoop, that was one 2nd gen ones.
Either way love this show and you guys give me a good laugh every time I watch so keep up the good shit
MS3 Video means the usual 'muh unreliability' in the comments. Its BS, its all about maintenance. Bought mine at 150k Miles with no record of timing chain or upgraded HPFP but had 3k oil changes its entire life. Never went wrong during the 2 years I owned it. Great cars, the single most underrated hot hatch but the majority of owners are plebs and can't maintain them so they go bang.
My '08 MS3 has 250,000 miles on it and I just encountered my first major malfunction which is the PCV valve 😅 this this car has been more reliable than my Honda Accord
"What a lineup dude"
"Yeh, regular traffic"
You can't get this kind of automotive comedy outside of 2015 top gear😂
That first video is filmed in Round Rock Texas!! I used to live near there.
My throw out bearing went out on my Mazdaspeed 3 at around 160ish. Clutch held 375wtq no problem even then, still had plenty of life even after heavy tracking.
I've been waiting for this video for years.
Love the channel, but y’all should have did a little more research on the Speed3 before hand. Because these turbocharged 2.3L 4 cylinders rip!! 263 hp with around 280 lb-ft of torque, hot hatch for sure
i had a gen 1 speed 3 and i loved it so much. first car i bought at 15 with my own money and i still have it today. they are quicker than ppl think when you don’t let them in the wrong peoples hands and let them ruin them. things still going strong at 190k with all stock internals and an unmodified engine.
y'all got the best titles for videos ive ever seen💀
I would LOVE if CCF was expanded to also work in Canada, specifically the marketplace search
"no head rest. LED ropes" LMAO
Lady ran a red light and totaled my mazdaspeed3 a month ago. Great, fun car that even relatively stock holds it own against sime suprising match ups
I had a first gen speed 3 and it was an awesome stock daily driver. After I modded it (correctly), it became so unpredictable. Sometimes you would get 150ft lbs when you floored it, sometimes 350 ft lbs. The ecu would always fight the torque steer and neuter the car. They can make serious torque under 4k rpm for what they are. What a fantastic stock daily though. One of my favorites and I've owned everything from EF to S2000 to Supra.
You had a bad tune man.
@@RandyAugustus YOU had a bad tune, maaaaaan.
*Forgets to turn off DSC*
@@Success.mp4 not sure if you can turn it off 100%. I think it's one of those that always has at least 30% even if it looks like it's off
Thanks, now I'm worried about modding my speed3...
I have a 2nd gen MS3 owned for about 10 years. Bought it at 47K miles, now at 180K. Still original clutch, and I taught 5 people to drive stick on it. It’s my favorite of all the cars I’ve owned. I just keep it stock, and it’s running like a little champion. Lots of fun to drive, and has barely needed any work since I’ve owned it.
But yes, the typical driver of an MS3 is a mod-junkie who turns it into a tuned up monster that’s ready to blow any day. We have a term for it “zoom-zoom-boom” or ZZB for short.
I have a deep love for the Mazda speed threes I had one and it was my favorite car I’ve ever owned
Still own a 2009 mazdaspeed 3 simply because it is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Still on my original motor but ditched the k04 turbo for a bnr s4. Most turds that owned these didnt know how to top off their oil once their old turbos seals went. Their rod bearings usually thanked them for it.
Doing a 2.5 duratech bottom end on these once you blow the motor is pretty popular. Everything from the 2.3 bolts right on the 2.5 bottom. Can pick those motors up all day for $400. Cheap fun power if you like hot hatches.
@willham1427 Intake. You will need to get a bosche 3 bar maf as well. Catless is more power but intake is faster spools.
@willham1427 BTW, I dont recommend getting a cobb accessport if you want to make custom maps or tweak maps others have made. California regulations made them pull their tuner software that allows you to edit their files. Versatuner require a laptop BUT you can do anything you want on it. Freaktune and most other shops offer tuning/maps for versatuner so dont worry about that.
@willham1427 DO NOT use an OTS tune from cobb. Whatever you do. Buy a custom map from freektune, purpledrank, or damond. I am not even slightly kidding. Those OTS maps from Cobb are absolute garbage. Yes, a 2.75 intake, bosche 3 bar map, and 93 octane can hit 300hp easy. Best part is it will be responsive as fuck and start spooling around 26-2700rpm. You will want a bigger turbo for anything more than 310-315ish hp. The BNR S4 bolts right on and is a beast. Highly recommend. Trust me you will want more power one day. Save your money for that, a stage 2 oil catch can setup from damond, an electronic boost controller, and a better intercooler. Then you can push past 350.
@willham1427 Cant really go wrong with the damond 2.75 intake for the stock turbo. It's $330. I run the HTP 3.5 intake but also running a large ass BNR S4.
Freektune is a great choice. Justin is the fucking man when it comes to these engines and tuning. He will set ya straight.
BTW, you will never get that stock turbo to really chooch past 5500 rpm. It's just a matter of efficiency. If you are looking for something that pulls hard in that range you will need a bigger turbo and that will mean slower spools. Mine hits hard at 2900 rpm and pulls to around 5700.
@willham1427 Yep super easy. Just a matter of following instructions and datalogging.
That Regal was the best car in this video lol
A great boat that can't turn.
I had a Gen 1 MS3. It had about 300 whp and was an absolute blast. Sounded decent for a 4 cylinder (no, it wasn't straight piped lol.)
As a 20 yr Gen Z I freakin enjoy watching 90’s and 2000’s comedy movies also Jackass movies where my sh*t growing up 😂
Netgear has said some esoteric/funny things, but the WTF at 7:40 is art
Ha! You used the reckless riverboat captain LOL
As a genpu owner on its 2nd motor with a check engine light, timing chain slapping around, this feels like Country Club Adjacent for car owners. 😂
I didn’t know there was a PT cruiser GT in the office. The GT holds a close place to my heart, but the regular can go f itself. Talk more about that srt-4 powered truck
Same engine as an SRT-4 and while some people may shit on it, it's actually a very strong and capable engine and is more reliable than some comparable 4 cylinder turbos. An awesome sleeper. I think the Caliber SRT-4 was the same.
Yep, I really started to like the one my family had a few years ago, that is until my brother promptly wrecked it.
lol i totally remember going crazy seeing the 9-2x in the office. Im pretty sure it was an Aero too and not a linear
my 07 MS3 didn't come with hoodscoop. 80k miles, minimal maintenance, still runs great. awesome car made in Hokkaido
rare puchii w on not watching the office
You guys are great. I think it'd be interesting if you guys did this like podcast style with everyone sitting together IRL. Just an idea though I'd watch eitherway.
My dad has a wh-1 t-type and fun fact the t-types were slightly faster than grand nationals because they had magnesium wheels and bumper brackets
I'm in this video!!! lol 😂
I have a 1st gen speed 3 and I am planning on putting some trackspec hood vents for the motor to stay cool. Plus, I know the 1st gen speeds would definitely look more badass with hood vents in general in my opinion
I prefer the understated look for sleeper status. When I had my old 09, nobody could tell what it was until they heard the turbo spool and saw how hard it pulled.
As a speed3 owner it saddens me that they've become this. But I don't have much room to talk, mine is clapped lol.
You're my comedy show bby
HEY YOU CAN'T SAY THAT
puchii not watching the office wasn't even the biggest thing in this video
The Office eats farts
1st gens didn't have a hood scoop, almost all the ones you said weren't were in fact mazdaspeed 3s.
The spoiler on the gen 1s are a dead give away whether it's a speed or regular three. There were actually a lot of regular gen 1s listed as speed3s 😂
I have too many cars so I want to trade this for a different car gotta be the dumbest thing I have ever heard
Man that clutch job one hit me right in the gut. Cost me about 4k to get it done on my speed3
Wow WTF man. I got my head gasket done for my Benz earlier this year at a Mercedes dealership for less than that, damn.
@@ScubaSteveM45 I mean the cost of the parts alone was two grand, and having to drop the transmission is a bitch...

Had stage 3 freektune speed3 was around 300 hp it was fun lil car only thing have left to do is the manifolds and turbo daily driven
Well, my mazdaspeed keeps up with my friends procharged coyote and has done several 2k+ miles road trips. Lol
I’m with Dwight from the office I’ll drive my pos first gen xterra till the doors fall off 😂
Loved my 2nd gen (while trying to ignore the smile). You don't _drive_ those things through the twisties, you _wrestle_ them. The MS3 community is filled with highly entertaining nutcases, though. Think frat house filled with 14-year-olds.
I track my gen 1 with 326 whp 376wtq. With great tires its not a problem. I overtook a lot of cars right out the corners.
I would love to see you guys do an Aussie video about Holden commodores and ford falcons
Can you guys look at the first and second gen Tsx specifically model years 2004-2008. It’s a sporty little sedan with a k24, they came with a 5 speed auto or the rare 6 speed manual
I loved my ms3. Unfortunately a lot of younger people with a lust for power and a disdain for mechanical sympathy could afford them. Not that being affordable is bad...
Many were blown up by folks that didnt understand even the most basic of things and others were 3rd car'd to absolute death.
Labeled unreliable by many that cant put duplos together properly, the ms3 was a great car if you did your supporting mods. The stock fuel system was duty cycled to oblivion pretty quickly...
But no one wants to spend money on things that dont go "WHOOOOSH!" or other loud noises...so just throw a bunch of power adders on and MAYBE run an ots tune with their cobb accessport.

Im also with Puchii
Thank you comrade

You guys are the best lmfao
Former MS6 owner, the drivetrain on those cars were more sensitive than anyone with blue hair.
Loving this show guys! Keep it up, and how about some solstices/skys?
Bro I've got one right now and 5th gear just went out lmao
Only if you don't know what you're doing. It only takes less than $1k in mods to make the drivetrain nearly idiot-proof, but most of the owners from this past decade would rather spend that on tasteless aesthetic mods and complain that their neglected drivetrain is unreliable.
@@Success.mp4what mods other than HPFP do you need to make it reliable?
AWD can't just be clutch dumped. The Speed 6 transmission is as strong as an STI 6 speed transmission and can handle 1000 WHP with just a clutch upgrade, but you will want to upgrade the rear differential mount and also install the transmission bearing cap upgrade kit if you want total relability. No AWD car will survive multiple clutch dumps no matter how well build or strong it is, you have to burn the clutch a bit and let it go progressively quickly, not flat out dump it due to "gear lash". You can't do it in an EVO, an STI, only the automatic AWD cars like a GTR where it does that stuff for you automatically. Speed 6 is no different. I've launch this car multiple times, but I educated myself before being aggressive and would always slip the clutch. I was launching the car almost every day across intersections on my commute. This is a platform that you can't just buy without any research, the turbo fails, the EGR gets clogged, the intake valves get clogged etc.
@@naf2k447 Injector seals, throttle body insulating gaskets, upgrade the turbo to a BNR-S3(stock turbo has factory defect that will continue to fail even after rebuilding), you will need to get an intake for that larger turbo(get 3 inch intake with 3 inch MAF housing, also get a larger TMIC or front mount intercooler to get cooler air, get a 3 port Electronic Boost Control Solenoid, may have to get a smaller batter box to fit larger intake, a short shift plate that goes in interior(don't get kit that modified shifter linkage in engine bay, leave that stock), upgrade the clutch line to stainless steel also brake lines, get all 4 mounts changed to poly, get rear diff mount, get a dual oil catch can kit, get either water methanol injection kit or better yet port injection kit(costs more than water methanol) because intake valves get clogged due to direct injection. Change your oil every 3,000 miles, just get conventional if you want to save money, you can change your oil filter every 5k. Get a proper tune can be an online pro tuner I recommend buying Versatuner software as Cobb sucks now, Mazdaedit could work if in a budget. De tune the low end to avoid blowing the engine from low RPM high load or just avoid building boost below 3k RPM.
I don't know if I'm forgetting anything...
Okay. You guys are based AF for the Slave I graphic showing “Uyghur Slave I” bravo 🎉🎉🎉
P.S I ran out of recent videos so I am stuck in backlogs now… that’s why it’s a comment 7mo later
Disney sure did change up the name of Boba/Jango Fett's Slave 1. It's now unfortunately called Boba/Jango Fett's starship.
Allegedly, if you searched up Slave 1, it would bring up some adult toys. That was supposedly the main reason for the name change.
Yo, love my Saaburu. Blew it up a while back and plan to EJ207 swap it soon (TM).
Lol live right behind that pawnshop
The Mazda5 was just a 3 with a van body. Better in my opinion, but second to first gen MS3. Anyway, two sliding doors, a lift gate and manual transmission.
Reguarding the suspicion around the grey one at 8:27 , the K04 turbo is often reffered to as a " glass turbo" because the oil seals go bad right around 100k. It was later fixed in the 2nd gen but who wants that ugly smile. As for the clutch, they are extremely weak when any power is added whatsoever. Just recently sold mine, wish you did this video about 2 months ago!
I’m assuming they fixed the hpfp and timing chain stretch on the 2nd gen? Always wanted either a speed 3 or 6 but decided to say fuck it and save up for an evo x.
Some second gens still have the turbo seal issue but the 2013 does have the revised vvt to aid with chain stretch.
@fujiwatertofumi5363 for the HPFP you jsit buy aftermarket upgraded internals and never touch them again.
For chain stretch you use ford duratec 2.5 timing components and don't worry about them for 120k.
Hpfp is the first thing you do before doing any other performance mods

First gen speed3 does not have a hood scoop!
150 on the first clutch isn’t unbelievable. My trd Camry went 180k before the clutch was finally done
I've heard these can go more than 200k if the driver rev matches and engages at a low RPM and doesn't launch all the time. People that have clutches last only 30k are holding the car on an incline with a clutch instead of using the foot or handbrake. Also good to use handbrake to hold can on a hill when you take off so that the clutch doesn't take the wear.
Pretty damn based cars. The price is only going up for ones that aren't destroyed
I was just getting hungry too
12:08 Thank god the original line is back, felt like my dad finally came back with the milk.
So glad I won't mention dad now sounds like feed.
Ahh the mazda 3, the ricer honda civic of the 2020s, i swear the sheer volume of these with fart cans and loud ass bovs on the highway is absurd
Difference is, even a basic muffler-delete Speed3 sounds better than the most expensive Honda exhausts.
The only problem is that they can’t actually fit any weebs
Man if the Mazda protege and speed3 have bad owners, I could only imagine what kind of people are trying to tell the Mitsubishi Galant if you guys ever come across that car.
Btw that was Donkey Kong
The problem comes with low cost prices on performance cars. Look at golden age 90's Honda's, they were beat to shit and pushed to the brink of extinction, now they are uncommon and usually restored clean examples are whats driving on the roads because the ragged out ones were nearly all destroyed, raising the value of the remaining few that survived.
@@SI0AX - agreed! - most that are still around have been beaten to death with poor mods and even poorer maintenance - They were pretty good if left alone with just uprating the hpfp. and regular oil changes - 155 mph and 0-60 in under 6 seconds with total reliability isn't enough for some, so they end up on the scrap heap. Those that are still standard are already being sought after.

You're wrong about the hood scoop, the 1st gen speed3's didn't have a hood scoop. But yeah, the 2nd gens did. The real way to tell a speed3 (assuming the badges were removed or replaced) is the metal writing reading MAZDASPEED under the front seat doors.

@@999Lucas Lmao you're not wrong. To be honest though the rear diff is the least of your worries. put 2 T cases in my friends in a year of him owning it. Also CX5 t cases will fit them if you can't find a speed 6 case. You just need to transfer some parts.
@@SteampunkDream rear diff just needs aftermarket mounts and upgraded axles, transfer case just needs billet bearing caps.
Without those, an inexperienced driver should not be launching this car from a dig or they'll end up like your friend.
@@Success.mp4 Yeah I mean my friend got two rust free speed 6s for 2k, both running, plus a third motor, and an extra turbo. One had a clean title the other was salvaged and had been rolled so the roof was fucked up. the first case we pulled out of the parts one, the second we swapped with a cx5. Parts weren't an issue, so he beat on it pretty hard. He also had a civic as a daily, and his S13 as his main project. Yes it is totally worth investing in bearing caps, and mounts but in this case he had all the parts he needed for the time he owned it.
@@SteampunkDream That's one hell of a deal but it really sounds like that guy either doesn't value his time or enjoys wrenching more than driving lol. Maybe I'm lazy but I hate the thought of having to do the same job twice because of a cut corner. At least that mentality has paid off for mine as 8 years with zero drivetrain problems while pushing ~400hp, and I didn't even have the bearing caps installed for the first 5 because I didn't want to pull the transfer case until I was ready to upgrade the clutch & flywheel at the same time.
I am also not a fan of the office lol
