Wow!!!! this is the best ever Solex 4A1 carburettor cleaning video i have come across on TH-cam. I am based in Melbourne and I have a 1977 W123 250 and was struggling with the idling and smooth acceleration. The moment I shift my automatic transmission to (D) drive mode idling drops and sometimes the car stops. I was searching all over the internet how to clean the carb and today I came across your video. This is brilliant, easy to digest and to try by myself. Thank you so much for sharing such informative videos. Please add more such videos ( example , how to adjust Idle Air Control Valves (IAC) on your Solex 4A1 carb)
great insights. my w123 250 starts normally but shuts down after 5seconds. when I manually sprinkle fuel on the carburetor chambers it idles for a longer time and if i stop it shuts down. I have checked the fuel pump and its okay, so is the return pipe . What could be the issue?
Check if both idle speed solenoid is working . Switch on ignition and pull out each solenoid socket and put it back in . You should a 'click' sound on each solenoid . Will the engine idle if you keep revving ?
The best would be to turn in the screws till the timing drops ..and slowly unscrew till you feel its running smooth ... If there is no difference at all on timing when you turn in ..then you have a leaking gasket or the idle solenoid o ring could be leaking . Try it out 😀
Thanks for the informative video! I'm rebuilding my carb this weekend. I have a 74 280c and it idles and revs perfect until about 4k, the secondaries dont open (butterfly and air flaps both don't move) would this be vacuum related or something with the linkage? Atleast for the secondary butterfly valves
@@krishnanautocraft5385 the flaps are sticky, getting stuck between half and fully open. The butterfly valves themselves don't even open to give suction for the flaps. And I'm pretty sure the diaphragm is toast. Do you know where to buy replacement secondary diaphragm?

How many turns open were the idle mixture screws for a good idle?

hi thank you , 1st check is the flaps are operately freely without stucks , it does get stuck sometimes , if that is ok then check the diaphragm .
