It was time to figure out how much my shifter kart actually made in terms of Horsepower. We threw it on a bike dyno and put that thang to work! Had a great time and dialed that puppy in.

A shifter cart will outrun a lot of cars, lol those things are quick
Killertoad they'll out accelerate a lot of cars...they won't outrunthem as shifter carts run out of gear. Top rpm in top gear usually = about 80 on a good day.

If you're gonna run forced induction on a two stroke you will want to run a blower and turbo combination, but on such a small engine you'll see greater numbers in porting and timing the cylinder sleeve.
Heat shield on expansion chamber will just increase the local sonic velocity or speed of compression and expansion waves reflected inside the pipe as heat rises, which in turn will favor top end more with the same tuned length pipe and let it rev higher and thus produce more HP.
It is effectively the same as shortening the pipe very slightly to shift peak power higher.
Gotta love the 2 stroke sound! reminds me of my moped days, 50cc makin about 12 bhp :D

no its because supercharging is way to parasitic for two strokes, a turbo is much better suited and is common in two stroke snowmobiles and btw two strokes is compression and intake on one stroke and combustion and exhaust on the next stroke due to no valves.
Devin Stark because a two-stroke's advantage is the piston and crank is the only thing that moves, so adding resistance via a belt driven supercharger would counter act the added boost. turbo is where its at.
2redneck a detroit is a completely different animal then a small bore gas 2stroke. Those lil 125's would show a decrease in hp on those. Same with a two stroke sled. That's why those guys are plumbing small garrets on the hillclimb & drag sleds.
30 years since I have been carting looks like good fun sure the hell would beat my old 2x 40cc chain saw motors.

if you mix your gas at 32:1(aproximately 4oz to the gallon) you will see a gain of about 6-8 horse power and your motor will run better
I got a nice ct370 motor that will run hard in that kart. it needs a pwk 38mm air striker or a lectron with some vf2 reeds.

You can get some more power out of a different airbox. I picked up 0.3 seconds on a 45 second track up here in Folsom,Ca. Your box has 3 smaller holes go for the one with 2 bigger holes, it should a Righetti

You should really come check out the road course in Jacksonville fl. It's has the longest straightaway in North America. There are very old records held there that need broken. Just another way to do it for dale

You just went up 1000% in my book. Those shifter karts are no joke. You can fuck up before you realize you've fucked up in those things. Not the parking lot stuff so much, the road course 135+mph stuff. I saw Jesus a couple of times and I think he took the wheel!!!! Most fun I ever had with my clothes on!!!!! Do it for DALE!!!!

What size and brand carb are you running? With a 38mm you should be making a good bit more hp. I raced shifters in the 1990's
and we made, on the same kind of dyno, 39-41hp honestly. Your motor sounds really good. I think I can help, if you want.
I broke 14 land speed records, mostly on 125cc GP Bikes, so 125's used to be my thing. Now it's V8s.
When the power is that close it's all about the driver

Cleetus, i have always wanted to put a 1000cc motor on a kart frame and stick a turbo on it from a small car motor. id like to see you get some proper mods on one of these karts. even a nitrous kit would be sweeet. but doing a proper 750-1000cc bike motor with a turbo would be awesome.

Look at small 2 strokes and scale them up. Have an older NovaRossi .12 nitro that makes near 2.2 hp on 20%. Compleatly illigal for 10th scale touring rc racing yet makes for a great drifter and eating tires. 2 stroke tunning is all about sound and heat. The first one rich flapped flababababada. Went lean and sounded dry low mid and high end miss ballance on the carb needles. Got started young in engines on rc 2 stroke nitro engines. Learned to tune them off of sound and heat testing after pulls. Great vidio miss the 2 stroke single.
time to ls swap those carts and get some real bad eagles flowing =D

you should put a yz 125 motor on there is find them a little easier to pull power out of but doesn't quite have the life of the cr 125 motor tho

Trevor Snyder It's nitrous, NOS is an acronym for Nitrous Oxide Systems.
Trevor Snyder why the fuck would you put a nitrous setup on something that already makes enough power to roast the tires off the line if you get on the throttle too hard. That'd be a waste...as would a turbo. He needs something with big hp and enough torque to handle taller gearing. Dump a 250 or better yet a 500 2 stroke on it, gear it right & forget about the fucking nitrous...it's not some riced out hyundai.

I had some race karts way back,in the 1960's and 1970s.My first 2 stroke motor was a Homelite KL-100.Then a series of McCullough motors,MC-91,MC 93,MC 101,Mc 101c,etc.Then I got a Margay chassis and started running Komet engines.Eventually I ended up with 2 Komet K99s on a Margay in C open Enduro.That Kart put out over 70 HP on the Dyno.After that we started using motorcycle engines,at first motocross engines but then road race engines.Mainly Yamaha TZ 250 and Honda RS 250 engines,but I saw Eddy Lawson and he had a factory YZR 250.A good TZ 250(V) will put out over 100 HP.Why don't you guys use road race engines?

That's a nice Kart I have one but it's not a shifter. I've seen the motor I have on mine make about 25 HP I thought the 2 stroke shifters would be more then 30
