  • I cleaned the Throttle Body and Mass Airflow Sensor for a 2006 Lexus GS300. If you are experiencing erratic high and/or low idle RPM, you may benefit from cleaning the TB and MAF.

    I have just done this self service earlier and now my car is idling at .680mph when turning on the A/C is barely up .710mph or less. It had a rough start about 5second then it calibrated itself. I gave it a ride and oh boy.. it was smoother than before. Thank you so so much for sharing this video and making everyone else life easier! Cheers!

      Pretty much all modern car’s computer and sensors are constantly detecting the air and fuel flow and adjusting the mixture rate for optimal fuel efficiency and performance.
      So the buttery flap that opens and closes controls how much air is being mixed with fuel. At idle, that flap is nearly closed to give more fuel to the piston for easier start, and for smooth idle.
      So the “idle relearn” is what car computes automatically to ensure smoothest idle after engine start. On some sensitive cars, especially European cars like BMW, Benz, VE, etc. after the throttle body and MAF sensor cleaning, car idles rough for minutes up to one hour until it calibrates the smooth idle point. So each car has unique steps to expedite the idle relearning manually immediately

    Is there really going to be any difference between the 2 cleaning sprays? I suspect it’s just a marketing ploy by the manufacturer.

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two sprays are completely different. TB cleaner is a harsh chemical to melt carbon build up. MAF cleaner is gentle cleaner that dries fast for sensitive electronic parts. Don’t use TB cleaner on MAF as you could damage it. If you get the small can, Walmart sells both as a set for $8.50.

    Had rough idle and experience missing /. knocking at some speeds. Hence cleaned the throttle as you did. Later car was not starting for another 5hrs. Maybe I had sprayed excess fluid.
    There was no change after cleaning.
    Tried to relearn the thottle body reset from another video. However still the missing persists. Please advise any solutions

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I missed this message earlier. Rarely, TB cleaning messes up car starting, unless TB was already going bad. By excess fluid, how much are we talking about? Some extra spray can only throw off the air-to-fuel mixture ratio and engine could briefly run rough and misfire, but as you drive, these symptoms should all disappear with 5-15 minutes of driving as all cleaning fluid is burned off.
      The master Toyota mechanic (Popular "Car Care Nut" TH-camr) says, Toyota and Lexus do not have relearn steps after TB cleaning, and that car's computer (ECU) self-learns the as you drive. About the only thing you should notice is a slightly higher RPM right after cleaning which gets corrected as ECU makes adjustment.
      How is the car now? If you are having issues, are you getting check engine light and (ODB II codes)?

      It could. But also make sure air filter is clean and the entire air passage way is clear. Also, make sure the air duct the MAF is sitting is not cracked and both ends are properly clamped down to not leak air.
      MAF on this car rarely goes bad so make sure the connector is not broken and it’s locking tightly and that respective MAF fuse is not blown.

      I don’t understand the question. When you drive and press on gas pedal, throttle plate opens up to allow more air to come in. Also, when you drive, the car is constantly making adjustment to the throttle plate opening, including idle speed.

    Do you think having a k&n filter will make your check engine light go on csv?

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What’s CSV? MAF sensor detects amount of air and temperature of that’s coming in and automatically adjusts the air/fuel mixture. So as long as K&N filter doesn’t hinder proper airflow it wouldn’t cause check engine light. Which car do you have and what code are you getting?
      Also for did you swap out for cold intake K&N filter and by passed the entire air filter housing?

    • @alb12345672
      @alb12345672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kn filters have oil on them and make the MAF sensor dirty. Eventually you will get a lean code and and a check engine light. A dirty MAF is handled by the computer similar to a vacuum leak. More fuel is added to make the mixture burn properly to reduce emissions. This issue was known for 25 years already. If you clean the MAF, every 10K miles, it should be ok.

      Huh? That’s not OEM. Did you install aftermarket part? Air filter will get dirty and they must be replaceable. Can you tell what’s brand name of that filter? @@DIYLifeSkillsi think he is talking about the carbon filter that is on top of the housing of the airbox on or 06 GS 300's. You can see it when you take off the airbox when changing the engine air filter. I removed mine (the carbon filter) a year ago, as it was very old and looked dirty. Needed to use a boxcutter to efficiently get to it, as it is not intended to be replaced or removed. If you are in a state w/inspections I'd keep it, but, if not, you can do so at your own risk. It is intended to supposed to filter pollutants out that escape from the intake after shutting your car off. After 17+ years in the car, though, I imagine it was either doing nothing or doing something perhaps harmful, so I took it out after doing some research on it.

    • @DIYLifeSkills
      @DIYLifeSkills  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no formal idle relearn procedure for Lexus and Toyota. Throttle Body is constantly calibrating while the engine is running. You just drive normally after TB and MAF cleaning. If you spray too much into the TB, extra cleaning fluid can cause brief rough idle but it’ll settle down within minutes especially if you drive
