    I am so glad to see videos of Ari again. Clear, concise, just the facts, no stories. He is by far my favourite of the submission 101 instructors. (no offense at all intended to the others, cause they are great too)

    Props to the guy caring for the guy that refused to tap, telling the referee it popped and going slow giving the guy plenty of opportunity to tap.

    I've seen guys use their right legs to kick open the other guy's defending arms. Getting your head out from the hook and trapping the leg with it is another armbar defense, which is why this move is so sneaky. It chains a deceptively failed armbar attack, baits the guy to sit up to get out of danger, then puts him into a triangle in the transition.

    @ironlou1 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    i like this transition and use it when the opertunitiy arives but i would just like to add that i feel a little more comfortable grabing and holding onto my shin at the ankle when falling back. when you sneak that leg through and drop the other your opponent raises his head in defence to the armbar this is when you reach behind his head and grab your ankle (not foot because you can hurt your own ankle) and fall back. this keeps everything tight and sinking the triangle a little easier.

    If you sit there wasting energy prying the arm the opponent can easily counter that that's why this is such a good video...

    gah why didnt i think of doing this? soo much better than wasting energy trying to pry the arm

    Something i noticed is you did not use your right arm to control his leg in spiderweb position, and during the final demo you actually used your right hand to help your foot into position. I thought you were always supposed to keep this leg controlled until you had your foot through into triangle position, at which point it is alright to switch your controlling arm because him trying to turn to his knees makes the triangle easier for you to apply.

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was not a 10th Planet set up (this video is a couple years old). It is just a standard set up from side control. There are MANY ways and theories to set up the triangle from here...this is just one.

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see lots of people get this in rolling all the time and I am sure there is footage out there in a tourney.This isn't complicated by any means and works really well when you have the spider web position.

    beauty in simplicity

  • @bzterp
    @bzterp 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suggest you use on of your hands that is holding the arm and control the head on your way down. You are giving up position to get the triangle, so you don't want him to be able to sit up out of it.

  • @mattcat83
    @mattcat83 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could be better by gripping the leg though, since as soon as the body-hook lifts to kick through, most guys will start the hitch-hiker escape and you want to bait him to go the other way with the sit-up escape once clearing the head instead. So, the move is perfect if combined with a grip on the knee.

    @DatSillyWabbit i guess if they are tired, all im saying is i have never seen nor have i been in a position like that for long. it just seems like the bottom guy would roll and get up then lay down and lock up to avoid an armbar...

  • @valak00
    @valak00 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awe that's pretty nice. Get them to defend the arm bar mean while setting up the choke. o_o I don't see why more mma fighters don't use more sneaky moves like this instead of trying to power through for their subs and burn a lot of energy.

    @PATRIOTS4272 Well, The trouble is, When you try and slide your leg between his arms and the front of his chest, Because of the short distance you have to bend your knee and lean yourself back, The moment you do this, The opponent could quickly grab your foot.

  • @jamieatiko
    @jamieatiko 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    important to grab the shin while setting up though. Or a strong guy can posture out.

  • @valak00
    @valak00 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @AngeldeMuerte187 That Might be So but then again you have to look at it differently too. That is just bbj but in mma the guy going for the sub has to be weary of the other guy breaking free for various reasons I've seen fights where guys have the submission and the fight should be over prime example Rampage vs Aurona. He had the sub and should of put Rampage to sleep but Rampage being as strong as he is just powered out of it with a slam. But like you said could be just a technical deficiency
