    Until you've trained in BJJ, you have no idea how helpless you are once in these submissions. If you think you'll escape you are kidding yourself.

    There's an expression I heard a long time ago from an instructor I had. He said that "...fighting should be just as easy as breathing and walking". When I watch grappling technique videos like this, it's like watching someone tie their shoes. I can't wait to finally get to the point where grappling is just as easy as tieing my own shoe laces

    I looked this move up because I read an article that stated that Shinya Aoki is the first person to ever successfully execute that move in an MMA match. After viewing it, I believe I see why this might not work most of the time against higher skilled opponents. When you use the forearm to move his neck, he's free to posture up, because he's no longer being held. "Looks" nice though. Thanks for posting it! ^_^

    Ari,
    I just want to thank you for Submissions 101. I proudly subscribe to your TH-cam and Mailing list. My only (formal) martial arts training is in Judo. I would just like to say that by watching your videos and reading your testimonials I have developed the courage to pursue training in Jiu-jitsu of any form available to me within the state of Michigan. Again I thank you for sharing your martial art (skills and moves) with the public.

    I know this gonna sound real stupid but I actually use this hold in wrestling matches. It is a really good submission and I thank these guys for putting it up. This is another masterpiece added to my collection of submissions.

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very True...not claiming to have made up anything and there are several names for the same move even within BJJ circles.
    Take the jiu claw position in 10thP system. The position existed well before but never had a NAME given to it...rather people would say "going for an omoplata, laying on your side, legs extended" Quite a mouthful.
    Its all semantics really...

    Then the choke sinks in for sure because that is the only thing preventing him from getting choked. Also have the arm bar option if it misses.

  • @joebro82

    Technical but tough to defend. You have a variation for just about evey counter. The added bonus of showing the arm bars is a nice touch.

    Well said Ramsey!

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  15 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That's cool but if I may ask-why would you discount a whole system or set ups all together? Isn't that going to limit your options a bit? If something works, why not use it even if you don't like Eddie or the system? There are LOTS of BJJ Black Belts that are using it and they aren't leaving traditional BJJ behind at all...rather, just adding to their skill set.
    The mind is like an umbrella-It works best when open.
    Cheers!

    If the straight jacket was there-I'd go for that. All moves in grappling depend on what counters your partner is throwing up. It is like chess and counter moves. This is just one path in a possible combination of hundreds, if not thousands...happy hunting!

    You might not see this exact execution of the shin choke, but the gogoplata has been used many times to win MMA fights. Shinya Aoki and Nick Diaz have both used it famously.

  • @ev3nflow

    Beautiful Bjj..
    I would love to see this in mma, but as supurb as it is, would be very difficult with no gi.
    A gogo is hard enough with no gi.
    But still submissions 101, beautiful Bjj..
    Btw . i have not trained for awhile, but legarto has trained me at gracie barra, and roger too sometimes...
    Keep up the stellar work my friend.

    I think he was using a play on words: Gogo combined with Omo to equal Gomo which means rubber in spanish. Hence we are 10th Planet and do the rubber guard...gomo was a neat way to look at it...that's all.

  • @biphillips20

    sucks just saw this i hit a go go today and it was blocked for my first time ever and i was pretty stunned someone stopped it. nice variation

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see.The term is called mnemonic learning or using something to trigger memory and explain something else. Instead of saying "hugging the knee after you push your hand up to get get their hand to the mat" we simply say "New York" which explains all that ;-)

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    All things being equal, I never said this was for MMA. The problem is, many people see a video, make a quick comment on how they can GnP everything and leave it at that. Aoki used the gogoplata in mma quite well...it has a time a place-just like everything. Gnp is only one piece of a puzzle and MMA is only one aspect and type of fighting (street application could change a GnP attack and its out come).

  • @KillerInstinct2006
    @KillerInstinct2006 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    If someone defends similar to the way you described another move you could try if you're in the double bagger position is the double arm triangle choke. Sean Bollinger recently uploaded a video of it and it was really cool. Everyone should definitely check it out. 10th planet is the best ever!

    A 10th Planet Gym in Calgary Alberta would blow my mind. I mean, it's next in line in terms of population within Canada, but I understand that it's the presence of trainers and demand for training that dictates where the gyms end up.

    Gomaplata?! (goma does mean rubber in spanish too lol)

  • @venescas593
    @venescas593 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The final seconds at the end: is that 100% speed? It looks more like 70 or 80%, but I guess it's just hard to imagine the amount of manipulation you'd have to do to pull this off at a really fast speed.
    Either way, this is a very sick move. Rubber guard is one of my favorite positions, and the gogoplata is my favorite submission. Now this is my favorite alternative to my favorite move!

  • @Submissions101
    @Submissions101  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    laugh...it happens all the time. People should watch my WHAT IF video. Some moves are sport jits only and others are mma based while others are no rules. Typically if you have some experience in the martial arts you can see the difference and don't need to ask the question. It becomes self evident.
    The other thing is: I've seen people write that the gogoplata wouldn't work in mma. Take some time to RESEARCH and you'll see several taps in MMA from it.
    Thanks for the support Vidar

    last week i got an upide down gogplata from an armbar on my mate i went for an armbar from mount but his hand slipped out. i managed to grab it again but hed locked his hands and it was the end of the lesson so i cbf wrenching his arms apart again. so i used his hands to pull up into mount but i left my leg on his head and rotated my hips and ankle then i just shoved his head back, got my shin in his neck and transferred my weight to my front leg :)
