This is how it’s always been between me and my big sister. Every night she would wish upon the first star for a baby brother or sister since she didn’t want to be an only child. I was born when she was 10. We’re MUCH older now but nothing has changed and I am so grateful for her every day.
My great niece and nephew aren't twins but they have always acted like it. They are always in close physical contact. I think the fact that their parents both drank bonds them together. It fascinates me bc, as a therapist, i see a lot of kids in this situation who throw their sibling under the bus to compete for mom or dad's attention. I'm grateful they are supportive of each other and haven't either become the parentified child.

Yes, I’m your same age. I would have adored my new sister, (and did nonetheless), but we were kept at arm’s length in the 1950’s (America at least) it seemed, and not always allowed to bond with and love our new siblings.

This is EXACTLY how my niece is with my nephew! My niece is almost 3, and her baby brother was born in September. Instead of the confusion or sibling jealousy we'd expect, she fawns over him, and it is absolutely the sweetest thing.

As long as you involve them in your pregnancy they won't usually be jealous. My 2 daughters are 7 1/2 years apart, but I made sure Amanda was a part of Monnette's pregnancy. To this day they're still as close as if they were a year or two apart. Amanda was so, excited about being a big sister that for show and tell one day in first grade she took my ultrasound pictures with her. Then after I came home with Monnette I took her to school for Amanda's show and tell. She was and still is a very proud big sister.
She most definitely is beyond her years. I've seen mother's who cared less for their own children than this young lady who absolutely adores her brother. How precious. 💞
