    I soldered my first eeprom for a lcd tv this morning. This was my first venture into replacing an smd component. You sir, make it appear pretty easy. It is not. I need to thank the guy at the local computer repair store near me, for the small tube of no clean flux. It saved my tail after lifting and bridging two pads. Got the pads separated and back where they needed to sit. I learned a hot enough iron(I dont have air) and flux are very important. Your videos are great inspiration to believe I could try. Job done, big smile and on to the next one!

    I am just a beginner at micro soldering, and my weakest area is in diagnostics. I've learned a lot from your videos on the usefulness of the visual inspection of components, and loved this one on following the schematics. (I'm sort of glad I don't do Macbook repair!) Thank you for sharing

    Liked and subscribed! Really loved watching the entire video. It's awesome to watch you follow the diagram, read the values and then measure the values on the board. Obviously you have experience, because I would not have known to look for example to the current resistors and that chip. Thanks!

    I am so glad you answered a question that I have been wondering for a long time about what happens when resistors go bad. I took a lot of notes at iPad rehab and maybe it was covered but that just didn't stick in my head of how they act. I was also making mistakes in my macbook repairs when I didn't check the resistors while the power is one Thank You so much!!!

    Love watching your channel, keep up the good work. I just wanted to share a thought about the general topic of your channel. It feels so good to repair things that were complex and looked like they were basically broken. I imagine you get that feeling too? I guess you make some money from these videos, so I can't say it's 'for free', but considering we the viewers do not pay out of our pockets, it's a fair trade with everyone winning here, obviously some more than others (google), but just wanted to appreciate your sharing of expertise.

    Nice troubleshooting, NF 👍. Many boards are scrapped unnecessarily due to lack of logical troubleshooting. The hackers might correctly replace a dead chip, but fail to troubleshoot, and miss the damaged passives. They give up. Client loses.

      Logical troubleshooting is usually faster than educated guesses. After much experience, educated guesses are fast but still check. It avoids getting confused when you guess incorrectly. If we don't have a stack of doners, guessing gets expensive and time-consuming.

    A question:
    Why you get parts like resistors or caps from donor boards when you know their exact value? Not saying it's wrong, just wondering why.
    Have a good day! Greetings from Greece!

    • @rajawaseem2752
      @rajawaseem2752 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s Usually the quality, value and tolerances are all tightly matched to OEM specifications whereas sometimes new parts from different manufactures aren’t of correct tolerances or values !

    • @tinygriffy
      @tinygriffy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it can't be quality since that is a common failure on these boards (ask louis :D), also you can get parts with better specs from any electronics supplier, so I guess it's convenience since they are already there.. on the donor. also you don't have to pay for extra parts. If you want to have a stock of all components that you might need to replace in the future you have to pay a lot of money for that... (having i.e a hundred of each possible cap and resistor you might need, you are quickly in the thousands of dollars ...)
      I really don't think it's a good idea to solder the same crap back on from another board since these donor board parts are most likely prone to fail like the ones that did in the first place....probably they are close to end of life.... just MO.

    • @paolomonai9511
      @paolomonai9511 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rajawaseem2752 No, this is not entirely true. Basically, one doesn't need a very tight tolerance value in the larger majority of the cases unless of very precise reference voltage value for comparators or regulators. The reason for using donor boards is that you have a perfect corresponding component point to point. So, you do not care of the value of the component, since it is in the same position both on the board to repair and on the donor board. It is a quicker path to solution! Regards from Italy.

  • @georgegonzalez2476
    @georgegonzalez2476 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A little bit concerned that three resistors failed. Resistors don’t usually fail for no reason. Is there some problem on the board that is blowing those resistors? I know you are trying to work quickly but perhaps a little bit too quick?

  • @matrofix

      The chip he replaced is a QFN charging IC (ISL6259). You'll find this chip on all Apple portables but it could differ with the portable model.
